Roseberry Topping, A Dream Location to Visit in England.
Roseberry Topping is a distinctive hill in North Yorkshire, England. It is situated near Great Ayton and Newton under Roseberry. Its summit has a distinctive half-cone shape with a jagged cliff, which has led to many comparisons with the much higher Matterhorn in Switzerland. It forms a symbolic image of the area and featured as the logo for the now defunct county of Cleveland.
At 1,049 feet (320 m), Roseberry Topping was traditionally thought to be the highest hill on the North York Moors; however, the nearby Urra Moor is higher, at 1,490 feet (450 m). It offers views of Captain Cook's Monument at Easby Moor and the monument at Eston Nab.

The hill is an outlier of the North York Moors uplands. It is formed from sandstone laid down in the Middle and Lower Jurassic periods, between 208 and 165 million years ago, which constitutes the youngest sandstone to be found in any of the National Parks in England and Wales. Its distinctive conical shape is the result of the hill's hard sandstone cap protecting the underlying shales and clays from erosion by the effects of ice, wind and rain.
The Roseberry area has been inhabited for thousands of years and the hill has long attracted attention for its distinctive shape. A Bronze Age hoard was discovered on the slopes of the hill and is now in the Sheffield City Museum. It was occupied during the Iron Age; walled enclosures and the remains of huts dating from the period are still visible in the hill's vicinity.
The hill was perhaps held in special regard by the Vikings who settled in Cleveland during the early medieval period and gave the area many of its place names. They gave Roseberry Topping its present name: first attested in 1119 as Othenesberg, its second element is accepted to derive from Old Norse bjarg ('rock'); the first element must be an Old Norse personal name, Authunn or Óthinn, giving 'Authunn's/Óthinn's rock'. If the latter, Roseberry Topping is one of only a handful of known pagan names in England, being named after the Norse god Odin and paralleled by the Old English name Wodnesberg, found for example in Woodnesborough. The name changed successively to Othensberg, Ohenseberg, Ounsberry and Ouesberry before finally settling on Roseberry.

DroneKing.uk - Roseberry Topping, North Yorkshire [ Typhoon H ]
Filmed with my Typhoon H drone - This was a flight we scouted on another flight to see if range and flight time would be an issue from my chosen take off point; the green in front of the King's Head at Newton under Roseberry. The drone had just enough battery to make the climb, circle once and then head back. It was a good flight and we particularly like the flyby at the peak. Hopefully you will enjoy it also, if so please share and like. Thanks

The hill climb most frequented by myself; Roseberry Topping is one of great Teesside landmarks and a hell of a climb. Once I'm up there, I always take 5 and admire the surroundings before the decent.
[This was the first time I took my camera out with me, recording settings weren't ideal for the run - live and learn though]

Roseberry topping mtb trail
Perched on the edge of the Tees Valley and planted mostly in the 1950s, Guisborough Forest has matured to provide outstanding scenery with lots of rock outcrops and stunning views. There is a Purple Mountain cafe (but no bike hire), plus a pay and display car park (free after 6pm).
A winding tour on the bridleways south of Guisborough. Start from Pinchinthorpe car park and climb on the fireroads to the gate below Highcliffe Nab. You then descend to Sleddale farm across moorland bridleway. Climb back to the edge of Guisborough forest then cut down to the foot of Roseberry Topping, an impressive rocky outcrop overlooking Middlesbrough (watch out for the steps!). Winding singletrack then brings you out on the road to Great Ayton. Head towards Captain Cook's monument and you are soon back on overgrown singletrack winding towards Kildale. From there, it's a short, steep climb back up to Kildale moor and back towards Guisborough forest, finishing with the secret path then Les's trails.
Roseberry Topping
Today is a change from the norm as we climb to the top of Roseberry Topping in beautiful North Yorkshire. The views from the top were totally worth the climb and I can't believe how out of breath I sounded, LOL.
If you ever fancy it yourself I would recommend getting there early as the car park fills up pretty fast.

Roseberry by Harry Twohig
Teesside is a beautiful place. Harry’s prose piece is about the high pace of life on Teesside and how there are plenty of beautiful places to go to, to escape the hustle and bustle of life. 18-year-old Harry takes us on a trip up Roseberry Topping and away from the everyday.
About the Real Tees Valley Project
Real Tees Valley was a film project run over a year across the five boroughs of the Tees Valley, encouraging young people to use the medium of film to tell their own stories around their experiences of living in the area.
Our young prospective and developing film-makers worked alongside six professional film-maker mentors, including a lead mentor film-maker to make the short films which vary in length from one to ten minutes.
The project explored what place and culture meant to this group and wrote a new narrative for the Tees Valley, away from the traditional headlines of industrial boom and decline, through using real voices to illustrate life in contemporary Teesside directly from those who might carve out its future.
The Real Tees Valley Project was funded by Great Place Tees Valley - a Great Place Scheme - funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and Arts Council England, working with Historic England - run by the Tees Valley Combined Authority on behalf of the communities of the Tees Valley.
