I was given the opportunity recently to fly the Bridges of Madison County. I unfortunately ran out of time to get to all of
them on my travels through Iowa last March 2017. This is the Cedar bridge moved to this location in the 1920's however it was built in 1883.
Burned now twice it is an icon for the little budding tourist efforts west of Des Moines Iowa. Winterset is nearby and also is home to
John Waynes Birthplace home and museum. Worth the visit if you are ever in the area.

Original version of a video produced about life here in Madison County, Iowa, home to the Covered Bridges of Madison County. This includes scenes from the annual Madison County Covered Bridge Festival, always held on the second full weekend of October. The 2012 Festival will be held on October 13-14, 2012.
Imagine living in a small town of the past, with a courthouse square filled with unique shops, a friendly and safe place where you get to know your neighbors, and folks gather up their lawn chairs for the summer concerts on the courthouse lawn by the community band. Where you can never walk downtown without stopping to talk with the people you meet. Such places do still exist! And access to more great cultural opportunities like the symphony, opera, class AAA minor league baseball, concerts and much more are just a short drive up the road in Des Moines.
Unlike the stereotypical view of Iowa as being all flat, Madison County is nestled in picturesque rolling terrain, blessed with fertile fields, wooded hills, gentle streams, abundant wildlife and majestic limestone bluffs. Besides the world-famous covered bridges, Winterset (the county seat) is also the birthplace of movie legend John Wayne.
