The pretty riverside village of Ross was built by convict labour in the early 1800s and has been so well preserved that visitors can still enjoy a genuine piece of history today.
Ross is arguably the finest nineteenth century village in Australia. Cobble-style paths and grand old elm trees line the main street, while the Ross Bridge, Australia's third oldest bridge still standing, is possibly the most beautiful of its kind left in the world.
The detail of its 186 carvings by convict stonemasons was deemed of such high quality that it won the men a free pardon.
The former Ross Female Factory also shares a fascinating chapter in the Ross story, creatively interpreting the experiences of convict women in the early days of Tasmanian settlement. (There's another female factory in Hobart.)
The main crossroads in Ross are amusingly said to represent Temptation (Man O'Ross Hotel), Recreation (Town Hall), Salvation (Catholic Church) and Damnation (the former jail, now a private residence).
Enjoy a rest by the river and fall for the charms of this convict-built stone village.
Ross is about a 1-hr drive (78 km) south from Launceston and a 1 hr 30-min drive (121 km) north from Hobart.

Ross is a picturesque town located in the Midlands of Tasmania between Hobart and Launceston. This is an historic town that will make you feel like you are back in the days of the convict settlement.

Hobart to Launceston with a Visit to Ross Village - VLOG 09
Day 4 of our trip to Tassie, we said goodbye to Hobart and started our journey to Launceston.
Perfect blue skies were coming to an end as we traveled north on the Midland Highway. Along the way we took a small detour to a small town called Ross (Ross Village).
Ross is located halfway between Hobart and Launceston which is why it was established back in early 1800. It has a beautifully carved sandstone bridge.
We enjoyed some more local pies and coffee here (at Bakery 31) along with some family pics. The weather was perfect which allowed me to fly the Mavic air to get some aerial shots of this bridge.
The journey then continued until we arrived at our destination Peppers Seaport Hotel in Launceston.

這是我們塔斯旅行的Day3、4。 完成！
這兩天我們從Launceston 一路往東去了羅斯小鎮跟酒杯灣，再往南去到了Richmond Bridge、MONA古今藝術博物館、威靈頓山。兩天除了跑行程之外，還要從北塔一直趕路到南塔。
這次因為素材不是很多，我試著用不一樣的方式來呈現這支影片。也不算好或不好，就是一個不同的感受！

第３日目
魔女の宅急便の映画の舞台となったと言われているパン屋のあるRoss村に行って、有名なバニラケーキを食べてきました。
その後はワイングラスベイに一時間半かけて頂上まで登りました。絶景なのでぜひ行く際の参考にして下さい。
第４日目
リッチモンドという有名な街に行った後、友人がお勧めしてくれたMONA美術館に行きました。
MONA美術館はハイテクな美術館で、一人一台iPodを使用しながら作品を楽しむことができます。
ウェリントン山に夕方行き、いち早く冬を経験しました。景色は絶景ですが、山頂で寒いので着込んで行って下さいね。

Ross sits on the banks of the Macquarie River, and is one of Australia's most appealing convict-built stone villages.
What's special about Ross?
Home to Australia's third oldest bridge.

Arguably the finest nineteenth century village in Australia
Walk down to the Ross Bridge, designed by John Lee Archer, possibly the most beautiful of its kind left in the world. The detail of its 186 carvings by convict stonemasons was deemed of such high quality that it won the men a free pardon.
Like other parts of Tasmania's Midlands, the Ross area is famous for its superfine merino wool. Visit the Tasmanian Wool Centre where you will find a Heritage Museum and Wool Exhibition.
Another attraction not to miss is the Ross Bakery, with its original semi-scotch brick '3 bag' wood-fired oven. In a scotch oven the fire is lit inside the oven; in a semi-scotch oven it's lit in a chamber to one side of the oven. The bakery, which has the capacity to bake more than 300 loaves of bread, has been operating on the site for more than a century. ('3-bag' refers to three hundred weight bags of flour.)
The main crossroads of the village is amusingly said to represent Temptation (Man O'Ross Hotel), Recreation (Town Hall), Salvation (Catholic Church) and Damnation (the jail, which is now a private residence).
Ross enjoys a daily average maximum temperature of 23.5 degrees Celsius (74.5 degrees Fahrenheit) in January and 11.5 degrees Celsius (52.5 degrees Fahrenheit) in June.

The story of Ross:
Ross was settled in 1812 and many of its original sandstone buildings have been restored. The population is around 300 people. The Ross Female Convict Station Historic Site is a significant archaeological site.
Travel directions:
Ross is about an hours' drive from Launceston (78 kilometres/48 miles) south along the Heritage Highway. The main highway bypasses the town; rather than being a disadvantage, this has enabled Ross to maintain its very special qualities.
