The Golden ring of Russia: the Ancient city of Rostov.
Rostov was preceded by Sarskoye Gorodishche, which some scholars interpret as the capital of the Finnic Merya tribe, while others believe it was an important Viking trade enclave and fortress guarding the Volga trade route. Also Scythians were settled there. It seems likely that different ethnics like Vikings, Scyths, Slavs and Finns are the ancestors of todays people in that region. First mentioned in the year 862 as an already important settlement, by the 10th century Rostov became the capital city of one of the most prominent Russian principalities. It was incorporated into Muscovy in 1474.
Even after it lost its independence, Rostov was still an ecclesiastic center of utmost importance (from 988 it was the see of one of the first Russian bishoprics).[citation needed] In the 14th century, the bishops of Rostov became archbishops, and late in the 16th century, metropolitans. One of those metropolitans, Iona (Jonah) Sysoyevich (ca. 1607-1690), commissioned the town's main landmark: the kremlin that many regard as the finest outside of Moscow.
Ravaged by the Mongols in the 13th and 14th centuries (last sack by Edigu in 1408) and the Poles in 1608, Rostov became a medium-sized town. The metropolitan see was transferred to Yaroslavl late in the 18th century.
Apart from its history, Rostov is renowned for its enamels.

The Golden Ring of Russia (Russian: Золото́е кольцо́ Росси́и) is a vast area in which old Russian cities are located in a ring-like arrangement and a well-known theme-route. The cities are located northeast of Moscow and were the north-eastern part of the ancient Rus'.[1] The Golden Ring of Russia formerly comprised the region known as Zalesye. The idea of the route and the term were created in 1967 by Soviet historian and essayist Yuri Bychkov, who published in the newspaper Sovetskaya Kultura in November–December 1967 a series of essays on the cities under the heading Golden Ring.[2]
These ancient towns, which also played a significant role in the formation of the Russian Orthodox Church, preserve the memory of the most important and significant events in Russian history. The towns have been called open-air museums and feature unique monuments of Russian architecture of the 12th–18th centuries, including kremlins, monasteries, cathedrals, and churches. These towns are among the most picturesque in Russia and prominently feature Russia's onion domes.
Rostov Velikiy is known as Rostov-Veliky (Rostov the Great) to distinguish it from the larger Rostov-on-Don. It is among the oldest of cities in Russia, having first been mentioned in chronicles in 862. Its most impressive sight is the white-stone kremlin which stands on Lake Nero and is now a museum-reserve. The city also has three monasteries and museums dedicated to the art of painting on enamel for which the city is famed.

Посетили Ростовский #Кремль, посмотрели достопримечательности, купили сувениры из ростовской финифти. Полюбовались на озеро #Неро и прокатились по нему на скоростном катере.
Можно сказать прикоснулись к истории Руси.
Нам нравятся путешествия по России, тем более, что Ярославская область не так далеко от Москвы.
Ростовский Кремль поразил своей красотой и конечно вспомнились кадры из любимого многими фильма Иван Васильевич меняет профессию.
Если вы думаете куда сходить на выходных, вы любите путешествия, то тогда конечно же рекомендую провести выходные в Ростове, который находится в Ярославской области. И если вы едете из Москвы, то по пути вам встретятся еще два города из золотого кольца России, это Сергиев Посад и Переславль Залесский.

Ростов - один из древнейших городов России. В Нестеровской Повести временных лет, в записи за лето 6370-е от сотворения мира /862 год по современному летоисчислению/, о нем идет речь как о давно существующем. Со второй половины ХI в. Ростов - центральный город Северо-Восточной Руси, территории, ставшей основой современной России. В это же время он становится центром Ростовской епархии. В начале ХIII в. появляется самостоятельное Ростовское княжество, быстро ставшее одним из влиятельнейших политических центров Русской земли. Ростов является крупнейшим церковным центром. Территория Ростовской епархии простиралась далеко за пределы современной Ярославской области, а ростовские иерархи были в числе наиболее влиятельных церковных владык. С 1137 года, в период княжения Юрия Долгорукого, Ростов стал именоваться Великим и сохранял свой титул в течении пяти веков. В дальнейшем название города Ростов Великий сохраняется в разговорной речи, при издании путеводителей по святыням древнего Ростова Великого, при составлении официальных отчетов, исторических обзоров, написании исторических книг. Ростов предельно насыщен движимыми памятниками культуры. Государственный музей-заповедник Ростовский кремль располагает уникальными коллекциями икон, древнерусского лицевого шитья, произведений живописи и графики XVIII-XX вв., древнерусских: рукописей и документов, археологии. В 1995 г. он включен в Список особо пенных объектов культурного наследия России. Особое значение имеет ростовская финифть - традиционная роспись по эмали, развивающаяся в Ростове на протяжении нескольких столетий. Ростовские мастера-эмальеры известны во всем мире.

Rostov
Rostov is a town in Yaroslavl Oblast, Russia, one of the oldest in the country and a tourist center of the Golden Ring. It is located on the shores of Lake Nero, 202 kilometers northeast of Moscow. Population: 31,792 (2010 Census); 34,141 (2002 Census); 35,707 (1989 Census).
While the official name of the town is Rostov, it is also known to Russians as Rostov Veliky, i. e. Rostov the Great. This name is used to distinguish it from Rostov-on-Don, which is now a much larger city. Rostov Yaroslavsky is the official name of its railway station.
