Rostov-on-Don - the southern capital of Russia
Rostov-on-Don was built by decree of Empress Elizabeth (the daughter of Peter the Great), as an important strategic settlement in southern Russia. Now Rostov-on-Don is the largest city in the south of Russia, where more than 2 million people live.
Rostov-on-Don is a large administrative, cultural, scientific, educational, industrial center and the most important transportation hub in southern Russia.
The city has preserved many beautiful buildings. We walked along the central streets of the city, the embankment of the Don River and talked to the locals.

Por Rostov passa o rio Don, já perto da sua foz no mar de Azov. A cidade é um importante centro comercial, industrial e de transportes que se liga ao mar de Azov por um profundo canal, e com os mares Cáspio, Báltico e Branco por meio do canal Volga-Don. Um oleoduto une a cidade aos campos de petróleo do Cáucaso.

Rostov the Great [this name is used to distinguish it from Rostov-on-Don] is one of the oldest towns in the country and a tourist center of the Golden Ring (a ring of ancient cities northeast of Moscow). First mentioned in the year 862 as an already important settlement, by the 13th century, Rostov became capital city of one of the most prominent Russian principalities, Grand Principality of Moscow.
