33 002 From ROTHLEY to LEICESTER NORTH
LEICESTER NORTH station forms the southern terminus of the railway. A new station building has recently been completed with waiting room, toilet, refreshment and ticket office facilities. The station is situated on the northern outskirts of Leicester, approximately 1 mile from the new Space Centre and the former steam operated pumping station which now forms part of a museum. There is a pleasant 3 mile walk to the city centre alongside the river Soar and Grand Union canal. For those with more modern tastes, there is a Macdonalds approx half a mile away.
The route of the former Great Central Route can be seen as you look across the footbridge.

Rothley Station on 16th January 2010
The activities surrounding Rothley Station during the Low Season Weekend Timetable. The Locomotives in action were:
-ex.LMS 8F No.48305
-ex.LMS Black 5 No.45231 'The Sherwood Forester'
-Class 45 'Peak' No.D123 'The Leicestershire & Derbyshire Yeomanry'
It was an unusual weekend all in all as all the locomotives were facing North with gave me an opportunity to get some different footage. The 8F had it's turn on a DALEX course which the Peak took over it's other duties.

Charnwood Forest Garden Railway at Rothley 31st December 2017
On 31st December 2017 while on a visit to the GCR at Rothley station I spent some very enjoyable time watching The Charnwood Forest Garden Railway (CFR) . A splendid G scale extensive layout of which is based on an alpine scene, running Locomotives representative of narrow guage from Britain,Germany and Austria all in miniature, also some models representative of full standard guage, such as a short DB ICE set! This railway started around in the year 2000 as part of a Thomas exhibition being held in the station car park but became a more permanent feature over time and of course now has it's own collection of Thomas and friends locomotives. I made a video of what was running on the day of my visit but the variety changes from day to day. This is by far the best miniature garden railway in a long way and the best one I have seen. For further information visit the CFR's website at
