Hi. Welcome to The Roman Guy How 2 Series. Today, we're going to show you to get the most out of your day trip to Florence.
A lot of people refer to Florence as a city, but it has much more of a small village type feel. It's perfect for a day trip because it's centrally located between Milan, Venice, and Rome, and very easy to get to by fast train. It's an hour from Rome, two hours from Venice, and an hour and 40 minutes from Milan. Think of it this way, it's a three-hour car ride from Rome to Florence or a one-hour train ride.
Our first stop is Accademia which is about 13 minutes by foot from the main train station. Be sure to RSVP tickets to Accademia to see Michelangelo's David. You can call ahead to get the lowest price or book online with one of our partners.
I recommend getting inside by 9:30 AM. Be sure to give yourself at least 30 minutes between your reservation and your train arrival time.
It's heavily debated on what Michelangelo's masterpiece is, but David is an amazing work of art with a great story. After David's completion, Michelangelo was asked why he worked so fast. His response was, I saw an angel trapped in that marble and I carved him until I set him free.
The central market of Florence is about a seven-minute walk from Accademia. In Italian, it's referred to as il Mercato Centrale. It's a great place to grab a coffee, some fruit or snacks to keep you going all day.
After the central market, you should head to Brunelleschi's Cathedral, which is Florence's central focal point. You'll hear the massive cathedral being referred to as il Duomo. It's recognized for its captivating color scheme, bronze doors, and magnificent cupola, or dome. The cathedral took over a hundred years to build and was consecrated in 1436 during the height of the Florentine Renaissance.
Right in Piazza del Duomo is a great artisanal gelato shop called Gelato Edoardo Bio. It's family-owned, organic, and has recipes that are over a hundred years old.
The Basilica of Santa Croce, is not only a beautiful church but the final resting place of Michelangelo and Galileo. One of the best parts about Santa Croce is on the outside. This lively piazza is a people-watchers dream.
There are plenty of outdoor restaurants in Florence but consider La Cantinetta Verrazzano. This is a local favorite and recommendation of one of our guides in Florence.
From here, you should pass by one of Italy's most famous bridges, the Ponte Vecchio or old bridge, famous for its shops physically built into the bridge. Today, most of them sell gold, but they've been selling different artisanal goods here since it was constructed as far back as the 12th century.
Now you're right around the corner from Piazza della Signoria. This square is connected to one of the world's most impressive collections of Renaissance art, the Uffizi Gallery.
Piazza della Signoria is host to a beautiful array of outdoor statues, monuments, and fountains. The most notable building in this square is Palazzo Vecchio which is the Town Hall of Florence.
By now, it should be getting late and you should consider going to All'Antico Vinaio for a Florentine sandwich.
On the way to the train station, you should stop by La Fontana del Porcellino. It's a bronze statue of a boar and Florence's most famous piece of folklore. You put a coin in the boar's mouth and let it slide out. If it successfully falls the grate below, it ensures a safe return to Florence. This tradition was documented as early as 1766.
From here, you're only 10 to 15 minutes from the main train station, but by a rule of thumb when in a foreign city, you should try to get there 20 minutes early.

Custom Camper Van - How to Build - 1
We are glad to introduce our brand new self-built camper. After hard work and long hours, we are happy with the result. This van gives great travel autonomy along with luxury chalet comfort. This is our first built and we are not professionals, and just figure out things as we go.
Designed for all possible activities and adventures. Luck of windows on the sides makes it convenient city apartment but primary it was designed for traveling and adventure lifestyle. It has a huge amount of storage for your gear (it can even fit a full-size bicycle on the back in the trunk). You can be autonomous for several weeks (or till your next grocery shopping).
3 persons can travel/sleep in the van.
It’s basically a mini studio apartment where you have a 140 cm large bed. Second bed is the sofa which is about 63cm wide.
50cmx110cm openable desk and huge cooking area.
Van is designed for an option of making a passage to the front seats (in case they will be changed). It can be easily modified to carry surfboards inside of the van, so you don’t have any expensive gear exposed outside.
It took us around 2 months to complete this project and we can definitely say that it was a great experience for us.
IMPORTANT: We are not teaching how to do things, but only sharing what we’ve done.
TECHNICAL DETAILS:
Freshwater: 60 Liters under the sink (2x30L tanks with quick release connection). There is enough storage space to double up your water capacity.
Grey water: 60 Liters tank is installed under the van with easy discharge handle.
Hot water: the system is not installed on this model of the van.
Shower: integrated into the furniture on the entrance with 100% waterproof epoxy pain. Same space is used also for the toilet. By integrating shower and toilet you have a lot of free space in the van and it feels much bigger and more spacious. You can also use the shower hose straight outside of the van to wash your feet or rinse your gear from salt or dirt.
Heating: Eberspacher Airtronic D2 heater is installed onboard along with complete isolation of the van prior to build. Consuming from 100 to 280 ml of Diesel per hour.
Solar Panels: 2 x140W NDS solar panels with a digital manager with a possibility to charge up to 20AH.
Batteries: 2x100aH NDS Gel batteries
Battery management: You can fully control your batteries from NDS iManager onboard.
220V: 600 W inverter is onboard so you can charge all your gadgets and computers.
Fridge: 29 Liters Mobicool fridge which runs from 12V.
Water pump: Fiamma aqua 8
Kitchen stove and tap from Dometic MO 9722L and TAP AC 539
Trunk size: 140cm large x 200cm x 130 cm high approximately. The trunk is heated from the heating system.
Lights: 2 LED stripes and 5 led lamps to create a strong daylight (great for cooking or for work).
Safe box: attached to the van with 4 metal screws which are only removable from inside of the safe box. Gives you a piece of mind when you leave your van with your valuables.
Gas: 5 liters from Campingaz so you can change it everywhere in Europe.
Shoe cupboard: can fit up to 12 pairs of shoes.
Windows: only on the ceiling of the van. 1x 40x40cm with ventilator and 1 x 50x50cm above the bed.
WEIGHT: 3130 kg with 90 liters of water, full fuel tank and everything inside.
CAR DETAILS:
Car Model: Citroen Jumper L3H3 which is 599 cm long and about 225 cm high inside of the van. Why this model? Because Fiat Ducato, Citroen Jumper, and Peugeot Boxer are identical models and they are the largest vehicles compare to other brands, so you can place a bed the same as we did! Also, the interior is longer with same overall length, which means that you can fit more things!

Mantova - Dimore D'Epoca in Lombardia

Mantua is one of the major centers of Italian and European Renaissance; since 2008, is included as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Mantua seems to born from the water, thanks to the artificial lake made in the bend of Mincio River. The Renaissance was born with the dynasty of Gonzaga Dukes, from the fifteenth to the eighteenth century. Among the monuments of high artistic value, the Palazzo Ducale is a true city-palace, with gardens, plazas, arcades, galleries, courtyards and richly decorated rooms, including the Bridal Chamber (Camera degli Sposi), the work of Andrea Mantegna. In the Palazzo Te is hosted civic museum, with important exhibitions of art and architecture.
Antica Dimora Mantova City Centre is situated in the heart of Mantua downtown, just minutes walk from the main attractions. The ancient house has 11 rooms completely restored, a restaurant open only for groups (by reservation) and a modern meeting room.
Due to its strategic location, the historic residence is the perfect starting point for an excursion in the Natural Park of Mincio River or for a romantic getaway on the waters of the lakes.
