Roughtor, (Rough tor) Bodmin moor | Landscape Photography
I photograph Roughtor at sunrise in this Landscape Photography video. Roughtor or Rough tor is a tor on Bodmin Moor, Cornwall, England. I got up at 4:30 to walk from Roughtor carpark up to the summit of Roughtor before sunrise. I was blessed with some spectacular light and managed to take 3 photographs of the tor.

Rough Tor - Cornwall UK 4K
Rough Tor is approximately one mile northwest of Brown Willy, Cornwall's highest point, on Bodmin Moor. Its summit is 1313 ft (400m) above mean sea level, making it the second highest point in Cornwall. Both hills are in the civil parish of St Breward, and near the town of Camelford. The De Lank River rises nearby and flows between the two hills. Rough Tor and Little Rough Tor are twin summits of a prominent ridge of granite, though there are actually three tors at the site: Showery Tor, Little Rough Tor, and Rough Tor. Crowdy Reservoir and the Lowermoor Water Treatment Works are not far away from the hill.

The Beast of Bodmin is a black panther-like creature that is believed to inhabit Bodmin Moor. There have been about 60 sightings recorded in the area since 1983 and experts believe there is a population of big cats in and around Bodmin Moor which became a nerve centre of these sightings and reports of inexplicably slain livestock.

Brown Willy (Bronn Wennili) - Cornwall UK 4K
Brown Willy (from Cornish Bronn Wennili, meaning hill of swallows) is a hill in Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. The summit, at 1,378 feet (420 m) above sea level, is the highest point of Bodmin Moor and of Cornwall as a whole. It is situated about 2.5 miles (4.0 km) north-west of Bolventor and 4 miles (6.4 km) south-east of Camelford. The hill has a variable appearance that depends on the vantage point from which it is seen. It bears the conical appearance of a sugarloaf from the north but widens into a long multi-peaked crest from closer range. Special Thanks to Pauline for access to film this video.

Time Team S14-E13 In the Shadow of the Tor, Bodmin Moor, Cornwall
Ten thousand years ago, Bodmin Moor was completely different to the barren, windswept landscape of today. It was wooded and temperate, and Mesolithic hunter-gatherers roamed at their will up to 10,000 years ago. By the Neolithic era, from about 4500 to 2300 BC, people were claiming the terrain for their own, clearing the trees in order to settle and farm the landscape and burying their dead in barrows and cairns.
Ancient communities continued to thrive there right through the Bronze Age. More than 200 settlements have been recorded, with their enclosures and field patterns, but we don't know when exactly all of these were occupied, how they relate to each other or when and why they were deserted.
English Heritage and the Cornwall Historic Environment Service invited Time Team to examine and date some of the major standing monuments in the vicinity of Rough Tor. In a new departure for Time Team, this involved harnessing some of the latest science used in environmental archaeology alongside the Team's usual excavation and investigation techniques.

Showery Tor and Rough Tor on Bodmin Moor, Cornwall
The Showery Tor and Rough Tor site is composed of the Tor summit and logan stone, a neolithic tor enclosure, a large number of Bronze Age hut circles, and some contemporary monuments. The area is approximately one mile northwest of Brown Willy, Cornwall's highest point at 1,378 feet (420 m) above sea level.
From the summit of Rough Tor, many signs of settlements and field systems are visible. Rough Tor also once had a Neolithic tor enclosure. The southern slopes of dotted with Bronze Age stone hut circles, set around three or four enclosures that may have held stock. There are also the remains of a large field system, partially overlain with a Medieval field system.
A unique 500-metre Cairn and the site of a Bronze Age village can also be found on the slopes of Rough Tor.
Rough Tor is also the site or the 43rd (Wessex) Division memorial, commemorating those who lost their lives in the second World War.
