10 things to do in Rovinj, Croatia Travel Guide | Rovigno Day Trip from Pula Transcript:
Today we are heading on a day trip. How exciting. Yes. So we've been based in Pula for a little while. Yep. And today we are going to Rovinj (Rovigno). It is only like 30 or 40 minutes away by bus. Yeah. So it is going to make for an awesome day trip. We've basically scheduled the whole day in Rovinj. We are leaving in the morning and we're probably going to come back after sunset.
After eating breakfast, we decided to do a little bit of exploring along the waterfront. We walked the full length of the marina stopping to take photos of the brightly painted buildings with matching window shutters, plus rows and rows of boats. Then once we reached the end, we were treated to these postcard-perfect shots of Rovinj from a distance.
A fun fact about Rovinj: though it’s now connected to the mainland, this once used to be an island. It was connected in 1763 as part of a land reclamation project under the Venetian Empire, which also explains why certain parts of the city may remind you of Venice.
After wandering around for a few hours, it was finally time for lunch, so we returned to the waterfront looking for a seaside restaurant.
Audrey had the shrimp risotto, I had shrimp pizza, and yes, we both shared with the cats, who had learned to swat if you approached empty-handed.
Atop the hill, we reached St. Euphemia’s Church. If you’re feeling particularly brave, you can even try climbing the bell tower’s infamous creaking wooden steps. Such are the steps’ reputation, that there’s even a bulletin board inside the church with photos of what to expect. We didn’t make it to the top, thought I was happy to settle for terrace views.
Later that afternoon, the skies finally cleared, so we enjoyed another walk along the harbour as well as a gelato stop along the way.
So what’s the verdict on Rovinj? You can definitely explore the town in one day, but if you have a few days to spare, this would make an even better base to explore the rest of Istria.

Rovinj (Croatia) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Rovinj in Croatia.
The historic centre of Rovinj is located on a shell-shaped peninsula on Istria’s Mediterranean coastline in the north of Croatia. Seen from the sea it is one of the most stunning of the Adriatic’s port cities, harmonious and compact, a perfect cityscape. In the eighteenth century the city’s inhabitants built their basilica according to the plans of Venetian architect, Giovanni Dozzi, on the foundation of a previous Romanesque building. The bright interior of the imposing three-nave basilica contains splendid architecture, fine ceiling paintings and altars. Although Rovinj fell for a long time under the protection of the naval power of Venice, it was still haunted by the Genoese, pirates and pestilence, but the city managed to survive all of its tribulations and was designated as a cultural monument in 1963. The wealthy people of ancient Rome once thought of the region as a holiday paradise and so it has remained right up until the present day. The romantic Pearl Of The Croatian Riviera has lost nothing of its original charm. Rovinj encapsulates history, culture and beauty!

More info about travel to Croatia: Like the rest of the Croatian coast, Rovinj was part of the Venetian Empire for centuries. And Istria remained part of Italy until after WWII. That's why this region is enthusiastically bi-lingual and an engaging mix of Croatia and Italy.

Travel Vlog: Rovinj, Croatia
As summer is officially ending, here is my last summery vlog where I traveled to Rovinj, Croatia with my family. This vlog is kinda overdue because life got very busy as soon as I came back from Croatia and I didn't get around to editing this. I'm sorry I've edited this a little half-heartedly because the buzz of the trip in me has died now haha.
I'm moving to a new city very soon so I assume my next vlog will be documenting that. As usual, if you have any questions for me please leave them in the comments below :) I may actually make a Q&A video at some point if you guys are interested in that.. Lemme ask you guys later and see what you say :)
I've also recently made a video about how to study abroad:
Hope you're all well, had a well-rested summer, got enough sunshine, and are ready to tackle whatever September has waiting for you.
Hugs,
Bluinse

ROVINJ - Croatia Travel Guide | Around The World
Rovinj/Rovigno ; Italian: Rovigno, Ancient Greek: Ρυγίνιον (Ryginion), Latin: Ruginium) is a city in Croatia situated on the north Adriatic Sea with a population of 14,294 (2011). Located on the western coast of the Istrian peninsula, it is a popular tourist resort and an active fishing port. Istriot, a Romance language once widely spoken in this part of Istria, is still spoken by some of the residents. The town is officially bilingual, Italian and Croatian, hence both town names are official and equal.
Rovinj/Rovigno was already a settlement of Venetian or Illyrian tribes before being captured by the Romans, who called it Arupinium or Mons Rubineus, and later Ruginium and Ruvinium. Built on an island close to the coast, it became connected to the mainland much later, in 1763, by filling in the channel.
Rovigno was eventually incorporated into the Byzantine Empire, later becoming part of the Exarchate of Ravenna in the 6th century, before being taken over by the Frankish Empire in 788. For the following several centuries it was ruled by a succession of feudal lords, and in 1209 it was acquired by the Patriarchate of Aquileia under Wolfger von Erla.
From 1283 to 1797 Rovigno was one of the most important towns in Istria governed by the Republic of Venice. During this period three town gates were constructed and Rovinj was fortified by two rows of defensive walls, remains of which can still be seen today. Nearby the Rovinj/Rovigno pier one can find one of the old town gates, the Balbi's Arch, dating from 1680, and a late-Renaissance clock tower. The first city statute was proclaimed in 1531.
The main economic activity in Rovinj/Rovigno is tourism and during peak season (May–September), its bars, restaurants and art galleries work long hours, while operating limited hours off-season.
The busiest area is the very centre of Rovinj/Rovigno, extending from the main bus station towards the old part of town, where most bars and clubs are located.
The town's main central thoroughfare is the fully pedestrian Carrera Street, with many independent shops and art galleries. A farmer's market is located at the edge of the historic part of town, near Valdibora Square.
According to data compiled by Istria Tourist Board, Rovinj/Rovigno is the second biggest tourist destination in the county, in terms of overnight stays. The two closest airports are Pula/Pola (Croatia) and Trieste (Italy) and during the summer season, low-cost airlines such as Ryanair operate direct flights from western Europe to both airports.
Also during the summer season, there is a direct high speed ferry link between Venice and Rovinj/Rovigno. High speed weekly lines to the Port of Ravenna and Cesenatico are also available in the summer.
There are numerous hotels in the town itself, and beds are abundant though usually overbooked in the summer months. Accommodation ranges from private rooms or apartments to bungalows, camping sites and 2 to 4 star hotels. The city also has two luxury, 5-star boutique hotels, Hotel Monte Mulini and Hotel Lone. Apart from hotels on the mainland, there are also a handful of hotels on small islands surrounding Rovinj/Rovigno which are linked to the mainland by boats which go from the city centre to the hotel on the islands.
Sights and landmarks :
St. Euphemia's Basilica
Monkodonja
Zlatni Rt Forest Park
The Rovinj/Rovigno islands and mainland. These natural sights have been described as outstanding scenic wonders, because of the pristine beauty of the indented coastline and its forests, consisting of holm oak and Alpine pine trees. This area of outstanding natural beauty extends from St. Ivan promontory to Barbariga, including all the Rovinj/Rovigno islands and the mainland 500 metres from the shore line. The Rovinj/Rovigno archipelago consists of 19 islands.
Limska Draga Fjord
The Palud marsh and the Due Sorelle Islands - The Due Sorelle (Two Sisters) islands are a nesting site for seagulls. Because of its thick holm oak forest the Gustinja promontory is regarded as a forest vegetation reserve.
Rovinj Town Museum
The preferred means of transport for getting around Rovinj/Rovigno is by car. Rovinj/Rovigno is well-connected with the rest of Istria and with larger cities in the region such as Trieste, Rijeka, Ljubljana and Zagreb.
The centre of Rovinj/Rovigno, which includes the old town, is very walkable and transportation by bike or scooter is a preferred means of getting around for many locals.
The closest commercial international airports are Pula/Pola (20 miles), Trieste-Ronchi (70 miles) and Rijeka-Krk (80 miles). Car rental is available at each of the airports.
Rovinj/Rovigno is served by the Kanfanar railway station (10 miles), which connects the region to Rijeka/Fiume. However, travelling by bus is preferred to travelling by train due to the limited connections and schedules. The main bus station is located at the south-east end of Carrera Street.
