Peru Multi-Sport Adventure Highlights with G Adventures

This was a true multi-sport adventure we had in Peru with so many activities checked off our list of things to do. Over the period of two and half weeks, we visited, Lima where we cycled, toured the beaches, walked the city and explored the magic fountains in the Parque de la Reserva all before our G Adventures tour started. From Lima, we made our way to Cusco with our new friends from G Adventures and our CEO (chief experience officer). In Cusco, we traveled to the Scared Valley, and on our mountain bikes, explored the surrounding mountains, Inca ruins and the Maras Salt Mines. Making our way back to Cusco, we took one first of two “rest” days and used it to zip line across the tops of two mountain peaks. Now the main event was to hike the Inca Trail and make our way to Machu Picchu.

After our visit to Machu Picchu, we had another opportunity for a day of rest. Not knowing what rest is, we decided to head to the trails again, but this time, with our horses. We explored the country side of Cusco and visited caves where the Inca people had a rainbow rituals under the waterfall and the moon temple.

Next on the agenda was a trip to Puno. From the town of Puno, we head down to Lake Titicaca with our limo service (tuk tuks) where we kayak and have a home stay with local Ketuwon people.

After two days of kayaking on Lake Titicaca we make our way back to Puno, but before this, we pay a visit to the reed islands and walk on islands made entirely of reeds, learn how the islands are built and are treated to a ride on a typical boat to visit some of the other islands in the area.

With one more day in Lima before heading home, we decide to try one last adventure; paragliding on the cliffs of Miraflores. We waited most of the day for the winds off the ocean to pick up and just as we thought they would never come, just before closing (5pm), the winds picked up enough for us to get off the ground and into the air. We take off, but we find out that the wind isn't strong enough to take us back to the take off location. Instead, we make a graceful landing on the beach below the top of the cliffs we started from and take a taxi back up.

In this video, we travel across several tourist hot spots including Paracas, Huacachina, Ica, and Nazca.

Because we had a lot of places we planned to cover in a short period of time, we decided to utilize Peru Hop. We found the service very convenient to use, and appreciated the increased levels of security as well as the ability to meet other travelers. The cost is higher than public bus and comfort is about the same. They did however include English speaking guides on each bus as well as pick up drop off service to your hotel / hostel.

As a couple, we did find the seating process a bit frustrating. Essentially the seats are first come, first serve. We quickly learned that the best strategy is to have one person board right away with the carry on luggage while the other gets in line to place the large bags under the bus. This was probably our only complaint, otherwise this company is really well organized and we applaud them for paving the way for a developing market with high customer demand!

Discover Paracas with Gray Line Peru
