Cantilevered Chinese fishing nets, typical of Kochi, have been in use for centuries.

Mesmerizing Kovalam Beach at Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala
Kovalam is an internationally renowned beach with three adjacent crescent beaches. It has been a favourite haunt of tourists, especially Europeans, since the 1930s. A massive rocky promontory on the beach has created a beautiful bay of calm waters ideal for sea bathing.
The leisure options at this beach are plenty and diverse. Sunbathing, swimming, herbal body toning massages, special cultural programmes and catamaran cruising are some of them. The tropical sun acts so fast that one can see the faint blush of coppery tan on the skin in a matter of minutes. Life on the beach begins late in the day and carries on well into the night. The beach complex includes a string of budget cottages, Ayurvedic health resorts, convention facilities, shopping zones, swimming pools, Yoga and Ayurvedic massage centres.
Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala, is just 16 km away from Kovalam and getting there is no hassle. But if you are on holiday it is better to stay in Kovalam and visit the city.
The City of Thiruvananthapuram has interesting places to see like the Napier Museum, the Sri Chitra Art Gallery, the Padmanabhaswamy Temple, Ponmudi hill station etc. SMSM Institute, a State owned handicrafts emporium, is the ideal place to pick up ethnic curios and other articles.

Puthenmaliga Palace Museum in Thiruvananthapuram
Puthenmalika (or Puthenmaliga or Kutirmalika) Palace Museum is located just in front of Padmanabha Swami Temple in Thiruvananthapuram. It is a two storied building with tiled roof and wooden interiors, about 200 years old, used by Maharaja Swathi Thirunal Balaram Vara, the King of Travancore. The palace is turned into a museum displaying the artifacts used by the king during that period. Ticket 30/- (Palace at front side) + 20/- (art gallery back side)=50 rs per head. Mobile camera 20/-, still camera 50/-. It was not worth paying so much for the tickets. Compared to other palaces in India there is nothing to see here. The art gallery at the back side is by the side of cow shed with strong smell of cow dung. However, it is important for tourists because there is nothing better to see in Thiruvananthapuram.

kuttampalam at haripad
This kuttampalam at Haripad in the state of Kerala, south India, is one of only a dozen or so surviving theatre structures in Hindu temples which houses kutiyattam theatre performances, as well as cakyar koothu and nangyar koothu. The kuttampalam stands at the traditional location, to the right of the main shrine (signified by the tall flagstaff in front of the entrance gates). The kuttampalam has slatted walls to let in plenty of air. It also has a rather small stage suggesting that theatre performances did not require a great deal of space on which the performers performed their stories. Two doors on the back wall of the roofed stage lead to the small dressing room. Wood carvings on the underside of the roof, just over the heads of the performers, are elaborate and contain scenes from the Hindu epics. Carved representatives of 9 deities are embedded within lotuses on the ceiling above the stage. At the center is Brahma, the creator deity.
The jumble of objects lying on the floor suggests that temple servants often sleep in the kuttampalam when it is not in use and the space is often used as a extra storage room. The sound of various drums and musical instruments in the background signifies that morning rituals of various kinds are underway throughout the temple complex.

Interior Design – One Dining Room, Two Different Wall Colors
H&H’s Lauren Petroff takes on the Sherwin-Williams paint challenge and comes up with one dining room look that works with two different paint colors – a rich red and a dark blue. See how these opposite shades completely change the vibe of the space.
Lauren’s dining room set up features a black industrial-country table, vibrant blue chairs, an upholstered end chair with natural wooden legs, and an oversize white pendant lamp. The Rembrandt Ruby wall is very punchy and energetic against the contrasting colors and textures used – and makes for an excellent accent color while still being classic. Tempe Star, on the other hand, exudes a calm and serene vibe that comes from the mix of blue tones.
