Royal Thai Air Force Museum Bangkok Thailand
Royal Thai Air Force Museum Bangkok Thailand
Vlog # 213 Date 3.7.19
Today Tim and I drive up and pay a visit to the Royal Thai Air Force museum.
I have been here and vlogged before, but Tim had not so as I like cold war jets and warbirds
I went with him. Free entry and no crowds once again. It was raining but that did not matter and most of the planes are either inside or undercover.
You can get very close to the aircraft here and this time two new aircraft I did not see on my last visit.

Royal Thai Air force Museum Visit
After a nice breakfast at a street food stall on Soi 11 it was time to get cab and head over to the Royal Thai Air force Museum.
I like planes and especially war birds so had been looking forward to this visit for a long time. After the fun and games of the cab ride (see vlog # 34) we got there.
As I entered the museum I noticed a sign saying it was closed? It shouldn't be closed as I checked the opening times etc on the internet before hand. I asked and was told it was still alright to look around so a woman told me but she didn't seem sure. So I entered and thought I would see as much as possible before somebody said otherwise.
Some good and interesting planes at the museum on display and a few of my favourite aircraft both propeller and jet engined. There are lots of other displays and history and information for you to see.
The museum was deserted so I had the run of the place with only a handful of other visitors so was able to get all the shots I wanted. A few surprises for me as some planes I didn't realise the Thai air force have had over the years.
I would go again on another trip as I really enjoyed this visit.
Nice little gift shop there also and a little cafe for drinks and light meals.

Royal Thai Air Force Museum Bangkok
Royal Thai Air Force museum at Don Mueang, Bangkok. Great museum with some very rare aircraft. The museum is presently being updated and renovated.
Great for photography as there are not many people there to obstruct your view.
Free entry, 0800 - 1600. Check on their website before you go..
Absolutely superb shop and café. Very cheap caps and souvenirs.
The 1st couple of pictures of the Super Sabre are actually at the nearby Thai Air Force Academy.
Hire yourself a competent taxi driver to get you to the museum. It will take about 50 minutes from the centre of Bangkok.
The skytrain to Don Muaeng airport will not be complete for another year or two and a taxi will still be required as the museum is on the other side of the airport.
I have high resolution pictures of almost all the airframes. Please ask if you would like to use them.
Please don't copy or retransmit any part of this movie without my permission.

This video is about Royal Thai Airforce Museum in Bangkok, Thailand. The museum has about 100 mostly military aircraft including 3 American built fighter planes that are the last remaining examples in the world:
1937 Curtiss Hawk 75
1934 Vought V-93S/SA Corsair
1935 Curtiss Hawk III
Both Hawks are WW2 combat veterans.
The museum is free and is open daily from 9am to 4pm. There are usually very people visiting the museum, so it's easy to get around.
It is located at Don Meuang airport in Bangkok, which is about a 30 minute taxi ride from central Bangkok. Next year the Skytrain will open making access easier, although the train station is on the opposite side of the airport making a short taxi ride necessary. Taxis are cheap and plentiful in Bangkok.
For those of you interested in more details of the Curtiss Hawks and Vought Corsair I will be making additional videos soon about each of these aircraft and their histories. So, check back under my YouTube channel (Greg Otterson) or subscribe.
For more information on the Curtiss Hawk 75, please see the following link to the Warbird Forum Website and Richard L. Dunn's 2008 article.
While there, take some time to explore the rest of Dan Ford's Warbird forum website. He has a lot of great information about warbird history.

MiG-21 at Royal Thai Air Force Museum - Bangkok, Thailand.
The Mikoyan-Gurevich (MiG-21) is the most 'successful' supersonic plane ever made, with more than 13,000 aircraft made worldwide. It was designed by the Mikoyan-Gurevich Design Bureau in the Soviet Union. The MiG-21 first flew in 1956. Some 30 countries have used this supersonic triangle winged airplane and exceeded the top speed of the commercial supersonic sky-bird, the Concorde. In addition to those built in the former USSR, the airplane was also built in China, India and Czechoslovakia. The People's Republic of China license-built version of MiG-21 is called the Chengdu J-7, and although production stopped ceased around 2013, many remain in operation to this day, including among the fleet of the People's Liberation Army Air Force. The chance to see one up close, and walk-around it was amazing. The one I visited in Bangkok was gifted from the Government of Vietnam to the Royal Thai Air Force Museum.
Opened in 1952 the Royal Thai Air Force Museum is located in Don Mueang District, Bangkok, Thailand. Entry is free. It is located on the Phahonyothin road just to the south of Wing 6 of the domestic terminal of the Don Mueang Airport. The MRT train station is under construction. The MRT network will connect the museum with downtown Bangkok which is due for completion in 2020.

I’m a retired Aussie expat living in Thailand with my Thai ladyboy girlfriend. Our Video Blog covers the typical things we find ourselves doing as we build our life together living our life in the suburbs of Bangkok. My fiancée is a post-op ladyboy and we have been together since 2009. I finally moved to Thailand in September 2016 because the 8 years of travelling to see her was taking its toll. We hope we will give you a unique perspective on Thailand life and lifestyle as we go about our daily life and sometimes explore the Land of Smiles. Thailand National Air Museum
A visit to the Royal Thai Air museum.
I didnt expect this display of the Royal Thai Air museum to be this good. I was amazed at the variety of the aircraft from early WWI to post WW2, and onward.
The other thing that was completely unexpected was the fee. It was free! If you have any interest at all in aircraft, even if only a little I recommend a visit. If you feel like you need a change from the markets and temples, put this place on your list.
