Day 2 – Episode 5 – Bhutan Nightlife – Discs and Bars, Drinks, Movie – Camping Traveller India - Amice
Zumtrul is a bar, which is a karaoke bar actually. So there you sing any song of your choice on karaoke and enjoy drinks.
Nu/INR is 150 for Beer and Nu/INR 100 for 60 ml wine peg with Free snacks. It’s a good deal. I had a beer and Lubzang has a wine glass.
Soon, Aaksha called back and he also joined us there. He said he was a bar nearby and missed the calls due to the music. Some live band was performing. Now, we three were there and enjoying our drinks and we tried that karaoke on bollywood song – Mere Sapno ki Rani Kab Aaiygi Tu”.
It was fun. Lubzang and Aakash became good friend. We moved hom around 12:30 after leaving Aakash to the hotel.
One very catchy song grabbed my attention, out of 4, 2 to 3 was singing this song only.
Tile is Pubosha … Pubosha…. Pubosha…. . Really not aware of album or film name, but the beats are amazing. Try listening it on YouTube.
I am still surprised, only Karaoke version is available.
Next Morning, after breakfast, I went to the immigration office and applied for the route permit.
That lady said, it would take 2 hours, so come after 2 hours. So Lubzang and me went to the market and started doing sight seeing and this was my 1st visit to Thimphu.
Documents required for Route Permit are as below:
1. Fill Route Permit Form
2. Give Photocopy of Permit which you taken from Phuentsholing
3. A Written Declaration for Solo Traveller - same way as we given at the time of applying for Permit
Same documents need to be submitted for Permit extension as well. Simply replace Route permit form with Immigration Permit Form.
So, now I suppose to get my route permit by 12:00 Noon. We decided to go meet Deki and Nubru.
Their shops were just in front of immigration office. So we went there and met them.
Taxi: While Going we paid Taxi fare of 30 Nu/INR each and while coming back as it was a special taxi we paid Nu/INR 150 total.
So here if you see a Taxi, you can stop and get in. If there are more passengers inside, it’s a shared taxi and you will pay only Nu/INR 30 per person. And in case if you stop a taxi, and no passenger in inside, you may be asked to hire it specially.
Disc and Bar Timings: Disc and Bar timings are based on days. Saturday and Sundays, timing is till 1:00 AM, Friday its till 12 Midnight and rest of the days bars and discs are opened till 11:00 PM. Bhutan police keep the track and control on opening and closing timings.
Day & Night Shop: I found a shop in the market, near Legar Theater, its very closed to Clock Tower, which keep opened throughout night. If anyone is interested identify the name of the shop from the video and approach in odd timing.
Drinks are available on all the shops: Almost all the shops and restaurants are selling drinks of all kind. Simply go and pay and buy. Beer is costing only Nu/INR 60 rupees. Those who health conscious and doesn’t drink, can take 1 liter bottle of “Lassi” or “Chaach” or “Butter Milk” what ever you call it in the same price of Nu/INR 60.
Pool Game Rates: unlink here in India, what I discover with the discussion held with Lubzang, They pay Nu/INR 100 on per game basis. Not on per hour basis. This is not a authentic piece of information, yet I have, so sharing. I went to a pool bar but didn’t ask, as I am not a person who is very keen and good in playing pools.
Name of Bars in Thimphu:
1. Viva City : Viva city is a restaurant famouse for its crowed and DJ music. Its accommodate a good colume of visitors.
2. Mojo Park : its popular and has made a identity for live music bands performances. Many VIP and high society visitors prefer to visit this disc.
3. Zumtrul – Karekoke Bar : if you are found of music and love to sing as well, its an place for you . Sound quality and big screens are amazing. A good place to gathering and parties.
4. The Ace Bar:

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! Bhutanese PM Lotay Tshering also operates in hospital
Lotay Tshering is a Bhutanese doctor-turned-politician. Above all, he is the current Prime Minister of Bhutan in office since 7 November 2018. He is also the president of Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa since 14 May 2018.
Tshering was born on 10 May 1968 into a humble family. He hails from Dalukha village, Mewang gewog, Thimpu.
He received his early education from the Punakha High School in Sherubtse. He graduated from Mymensingh Medical College under the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh and received a degree of MBBS in 2001. He completed his post-graduation in surgery from the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University in Dhaka, Bangladesh. In 2007, he studied Urology at the Medical College of Wisconsin, United States under his World Health Organization fellowship. Upon his return to Bhutan, he was the only practicing trained urologist in his country. In 2010, he obtained a fellowship in Endourology at Singapore General Hospital, Singapore and Okayama University, Japan. He received a Master of Business Administration degree from University of Canberra, Australia in 2014.
Tshering is married to a Doctor. The couple has one daughter. During his tenure in Mongar Regional Referral Hospital, he adopted one girl and one boy.
Tshering served as a consultant surgeon in JDWNRH and Mongar Regional Referral Hospital, and was also served as a consultant urologist in JDWNRH for 11 years.
After the payment of about Nu. 6.2 million to the Royal Civil Service Commission, he resigned from the JDWNRH as a urologist to join politics in 2013.
Tshering contested the 2013 National Assembly Election but his party was knocked out in the primary round.
On 14 May 2018, Tshering received 1,155 votes and was elected as the president of the Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa (DNT) just five months before the Third National Assembly Election.
He was elected to the National Assembly of Bhutan as a candidate of DNT from South Thimphu constituency in 2018 Bhutanese National Assembly election. He received 3,662 votes, defeating Kinley Tshering, a candidate of DPT. His party won largest number of seats in the 2018 National Assembly Election, bringing Tshering to priemiership and Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa into government for the first time.
On 7 November 2018, he replaced Tshering Tobgay and was sworn in as 3rd democratically elected Prime Minister of Bhutan.
Narendra Modi with the Lotay Tshering, at Rashtrapati Bhavan, in New Delhi on December 28, 2018
On 27 December 2018, he arrived in India (three-day visit) in his first foreign trip after assuming the office.
Tshering announced his 10 cabinet ministers on 3 November 2018.
1991: He was awarded the Father William Mackey Gold Medal for academic excellence in Sherubtse.
2005: He was awarded the Unsung Hero of Compassion Award by 14th Dalai Lama.
2017: He was awarded the Order of the Beloved of the Thunder Dragon Medal (Druk Thuksey) by King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck for his selfless and dedicated service to the Tsawa-Sum (our King, our country and our people).
2018: Royal Orange Scarf by King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck.
It’s Saturday in Bhutan and Lotay Tshering has just completed urinary bladder repair surgery on a patient at the Jigme Dorji Wangchuck National Referral Hospital.
But Tshering is no ordinary doctor. During the week, he also happens to be the prime minister in the Himalayan kingdom famous for measuring citizens’ Gross National Happiness.
“For me it’s a de-stresser,” said Tshering, who was elected prime minister of the nation of 750,000 people last year in only its third democratic election since the end of absolute monarchy in 2008.
“Some people play golf, some do archery, and I like to operate. I am just spending my weekends here,” the 50-year-old said.
At the hospital, Tshering’s patient, a 40-year-old man named Bumthap who underwent a five-hour bladder repair surgery, told AFP he was pleased with the results.
“Now that I have been operated on by the prime minister, who is considered one of the best doctors in the country, I feel more relieved,” he said.
No one at the hospital bats an eyelid as Tshering, wearing a faded lab coat and crocs, walks through the busy corridors. Nurses and hospital attendants continue with their jobs as normal.
The Buddhist kingdom is in many ways a case apart, benchmarking itself on happiness instead of economic growth.
The capital Thimphu has no traffic lights, the sale of tobacco is banned, and television was only allowed in 1999.
But the “Land of the Thunder Dragon” also has its problems, among them corruption, rural poverty, youth unemployment and criminal gangs.

Bhutanese professional golfing dream
I am chasing my childhood dream of becoming Bhutan's first professional golfer.Coming from a small nation with only 9 hole course and Bhutan never having a professional golfer is one of the reasons that excites me. I know it is challenging but I do not want to give up on my dream without even trying.

Great Buddha Dordenma/buddha point is a gigantic Shakyamuni Buddha statue in the mountains of Bhutan celebrating the 60th anniversary of fourth king Jigme Singye Wangchuck. The statue houses over one hundred thousand smaller Buddha statues, each of which, like the Great Buddha Dordenma itself, are made of bronze and gilded in gold. The Great Buddha Dordenma is sited amidst the ruins of Kuensel Phodrang, the palace of Sherab Wangchuck, the thirteenth Desi Druk, overlooking the southern approach to Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan. Construction began in 2006 and was planned to finish in October 2010, however construction did not conclude until 25 September 2015. The completed work is one of the largest Buddha rupas in the world, at 54 metres (177 ft) and contains 100,000: 8-inch-tall and 25,000: 12-inch-tall gilded bronze Buddhas

Bhutan snow 2013
Friends running in the snow at the Thimphu golf course. Bhutanese men never stop having fun
