US President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush welcomed the British Queen Elizabeth II and her husband Prince Philip to the White House on Monday for the fifth state dinner of the Bush presidency.
The Queen's visit to Washington comes towards the end of a six-day trip, the Queen's fifth to the United States in 50 years, but her first since 1991, when Bush's father (George Bush Senior) was president.
Laura Bush helped the queen from her car and the four ascended the White House steps, pausing shortly for waiting media to take photographs.
Inside, President Bush, the First Lady, Queen Elizabeth, and Prince Philip paused for cameras a second time before heading into the dining room.
Together we're working to build a world in which more people can enjoy prosperity, security, and peace, Bush said in his dinner speech.
Friendships remain strong when they are continually renewed, and the American people appreciate your majesty's commitment to our friendship, he added.
The British monarch said the two countries must remain united.

The White House laid on special touches for Bush's first-ever white-tie state dinner to honour America's closest ally and make the queen feel welcome.
The centuries-old vermeil flatware and candelabras came from a London silversmith, a made-of-sugar replica of the queen's 1953 coronation rose graced the cake and English farmhouse cheeses accompanied the salad course.
The traditional special guest invited only at the last minute was sure to be of interest to an avid horse enthusiast such as the queen.
It was Calvin Borel, the jockey who rode Street Sense to victory in the Kentucky Derby this weekend with the royals in attendance.
Advanced coordination kept the First Lady and the queen's attire from clashing.
Mrs. Bush wore an aqua creation by Oscar de la Renta with rhinestones, silver beading and a bolero jacket, while the queen had a cream gown with a sparkling bodice, a blue sash, long white gloves and a diamond tiara.
Among the 134 guests in the State Dining Room decked out in white and gold were scores of diplomats, businessmen and members of Congress.

Ken Wharfe, the former royal bodyguard to Prince Harry, and personal protection officer to Princess Diana, says he's confident this month's royal wedding will go without the slightest hitch.
More than a hundred thousand well-wishers are expected to turn up in Windsor when Prince Harry marries Meghan Merkle on May 19.
STORYLINE:
Windsor is getting ready for the party of the year: the much awaited wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
According to Thames Valley Police, more than 100-thousand people are expected to visit Windsor, making it one of the biggest British events of the year.
One person who knows more than most about major Royal events is Ken Wharfe, former personal protection officer to Princess Diana, her son William and of course the Royal groom Prince Harry.
Well what you're going to see on the day at Windsor is very little floor space in the street, with crowds anticipated at a hundred thousand and there are probably more than that around the town of Windsor itself, he says.
He says it will be a very joyous occasion.
The ceremony itself will take place at St George's chapel, Windsor Castle. It will begin at 12pm on 19th May and the couple will exchange their vows before the Archbishop of Canterbury.
The public will then get a proper chance to see the Royal couple as they take a carriage ride through Windsor.
After leaving the chapel they will be driven along Castle Hill, the High Street and through Windsor Town before descending the magnificent Long Walk to Windsor Castle where they will join their guests for their first reception.
For Harry and Meghan it will be quite extraordinary to have a reception in a place with so much history, I mean it's huge. It'll be fun and those lucky enough to be invited, unless there's something wrong with them, will have a fantastic time, says Wharfe.
With 100-thousand visitors expected in Windsor for the wedding the event is unsurprisingly expected to give a huge boost to tourism in Windsor.
The town is already a popular destination thanks to its historic castle, an array of shops, bars and restaurants and its beautiful riverside location on the Thames.
Hotels are said to have sold out for the event and Airbnb predicted a 192 percent rise in bookings for Windsor between May 18 and May 20.
Wharfe is involved in a Royal travel wedding package, organised by Road Scholar, where American tourists get to visit London and meet him and other former Royal members of staff. He says it's been a sell out.
When asked why the Royal family is still important he says he always highlights the huge draw for tourists:
The Queen has opened up the palace, all the Royal palaces now in the United Kingdom are open to the general public, so that in itself draws tremendous interest and tremendous revenues, so yes there is a big tick for that.
According to the Association of Leading Visitor Attractions, an additional 600-thousand people came to London for the wedding of Prince William to Kate Middleton in 2011. 60 percent were from the UK and 40 percent from overseas.
The Tourism Alliance says that various estimates suggest a royal wedding is worth one to two billion UK pounds to the tourism industry in terms of publicity and that there is often an increase in visitors of around 20 percent to locations associated with the event in the following year.
But Wharfe says one of the most significant things about this Royal wedding is what it shows about the modernisation of the Royal family.

Actress Molly Windsor | Breakthrough Brits 2017
Molly remembers acting coming naturally to her when she was young. To her, when you’re a kid, you’re always playing and pretending, and this freedom from inhibition is something she has tried to keep hold of as her career progresses.
After spending her teenage years at the Nottingham Actor’s Studio (now the Talent First Organisation), Molly’s breakthrough came when she was cast as the lead in BBC’s mini-series Three Girls. Molly describes feeling relieved when the series, based on the true story of victims of grooming and sexual abuse in Rochdale, was broadcast. After living with the harrowing stories of the victims for so long, it was uplifting for her that the story connected with an audience, and to know that what she felt was shared.
For people who are just starting out, Molly would say to be patient with yourself. She says it can be a strange career, that when everybody else is going to university and moving upwards in their jobs it’s easy to feel a little lost. She would say that’s ok, and that all you need to do is enjoy the moment and look for ways to keep learning.

Trump's UK visit: Pomp and protests waiting for US president
Donald Trump can expect both pomp and protests when he arrives in the British capital on Monday.
Hundreds of thousands of people demonstrated against his visit last year, leading the US president to avoid central London.
This time, he has been formally invited by the Queen and will be treated to several displays of royal pageantry.

Does Donald Trump break royal protocol by touching the queen?
The US leader had just given a warm and often moving speech in which he praised the 93-year-old monarch as a ‘great, great woman’. But as the monarch stood up with her glass of Windsor Great Park sparkling English wine, the President reached out his left hand and put it behind her right shoulder, as if to pat it. While the term protocol is bandied around a great deal, it is considered extremely poor form to touch Her Majesty, particularly in such a formal setting. The Queen did not react and continued to play the gracious hostess.
