Drug-dealing mum and daughter live high life [August 19, 2016]
Jodie flashes their riches in front of the poverty-stricken community – sickening the families who have lost loved ones to drugs.
A source told the Record: “They think they are local celebrities but they are the scum of the earth.”
Last year, Shirley, 40, was jailed for five months for possessing diazepam and cannabis with intent to supply.
Her supply came direct from her relations – the notorious Daniel crime clan.
Jodie walked free from court after facing a charge of possession.
But a Daily Record investigation found her swanning around in her smart motor while her friends openly punted pills in the street.
A reporter trailed Jodie hanging about Saracen Cross – mobile phone at her ear – while dealer pals plied their trade.
A source said: “Everybody knows who is running the show for the Daniels.
“Jodie drives about in her Audi and she is always boasting about it on social media. Everyone knows that it’s drug money that has paid for it.
“When her mother got out of Cornton Vale jail last year, she got treated like some kind of local hero by the gang because she took the rap.
“All she got for her trouble was a holiday that Jodie paid for.”
The source added: “The low-level sellers on Saracen Street treat a bust as an occupational hazard, but they try to be careful not to get caught with enough pills that they might get a prison stretch for intent to supply.
“Police are well aware of who is running things but they don’t seem smart enough to catch them in the act.”
The source said the drug trade on Saracen Street is like something out of gritty US crime series The Wire.
They said: “Saracen Cross is like one of the corners on The Wire.
They hang about in their hoodies in different closes and do the deals on the street and on their phones, which are pay-as-you-go and untraceable.
“They have kids as young as 14, young delinquents, running around with bags full of drugs.
“Selling drugs is like a cottage industry in Possil.”
Saracen Cross is one of Scotland’s worst drugs hotspots.
Gangs of up to 10 dealers converge outside a local bookies and pub and do their business in closes, hiding drugs behind pipes and in cupboards to avoid being collared by police officers, who are highly visible on Saracen Street.
Jodie is well-known for pumping hundreds of pounds into roulette machines in local bookies.
She boasts of trips to casinos and posts photos of bundles of cash that she claims to have won. There are also snaps of flashy mountain bikes and her luxury motor.
Shirley’s conviction last year came after a stash of drugs was found at her home.
Jodie’s sister Aimee, 19, also walked free on charges of possession after her mum entered a guilty plea.
The Daniel gang make the drugs using compressors set up in safe houses.
They press thousands of tablets in batches that end up being sold to dealers for pennies and flogged on to users on the street for as little as £10 for 20 pills.
Police have recently been blitzing Saracen Street as part of Operation Induna, which aims to reduce dealing by swamping hotspots with patrols.
Among the most prominent dealers on the street is Kevin Coyne, who stomps around Saracen Cross selling pills to regular clients from small stashes hidden near the doorways of closes.
On his Facebook page, career crook Coyne lists his previous job as “former top man at cook house Barlinnie”.
He claims to have “studied drug science” among his educational attainments.
Another source who contacted the Record said: “Kevin Coyne is well-known in the north of the city and he is on Saracen Cross day and night doing deals.
“He is closely connected with the Gilmours and knows every user who turns up looking for a deal on Saracen Street.”
The Record has told how communities in Scotland are being wrecked by the influx of millions of cheap pills.
The blue fake Valiums – known as the Blue Plague – can be fatal when mixed with other drugs including heroin and methadone and prescription tablets gabapentin and pregablin.
Users do not know the true chemical contents of the pills and scores have already lost their lives.
While the drugs epidemic in Scotland rages, funding for counselling and treatment groups is being cut by £15million by the Scottish Government.
A police whistleblower claimed that overtime bans are making it impossible to carry out investigations on drug dealers.
The force are facing a £21.1million shortfall in running costs this year.
This week, figures showed that drug deaths in 2015 soared to 706 – more than double the death rate of 10 years earlier and more than three times of the rate 20 years ago.
