In questo video potrete vedere una foto di Rodolfo Valentino sul palcoscenico del Politeama Alhambra di Taranto ( che venne colpevolmente demolito per costruirvi al suo posto l'attuale Palazzo del governo) ,negli anni in cui Valentino lasciò la natia Castellaneta per trasferirsi nella città dei due mari per proseguire gli studi superiori (la casa abitata dal grande Rudy era nel palazzo tuttora visibile in via Massari ad angolo del Lungomare).Di seguito alla foto un documentario Rai girato a Castellaneta negli anni sessanta. La rara foto di Valentino al Teatro Alhambra è di proprieta della Famiglia Dragone, la si puo vedere nella sede della loro storica profumeria in via D'Aquino a Taranto ed è stata pubblicata nel libro edito da Mandese Editore nel libro di Giacinto Peluso Taranto da un ponte all'altro. A Castellaneta c'è la Fondazione Rodolfo Valentino sorta con l'intento di tenere alta l'attenzione sull'illustre concittadino che ha allestito un Museo sull'illustre concittadino.

The exhibition at the Museo Ferragamo speaks of Salvatore’s time in Hollywood, California between 1915 and 1927, when his career skyrocketed alongside the budding American film industry, working with stars like Rudolph Valentino, Lillian Gish and Cecil B. Here is the cemetery of Hollywood forever, in this place is entered few and the
biggest stars of golden age of Hollywood, RUDOLPH VALENTINO Born : May 6, 1895 in Castellaneta, Apulia, Italy. Died : August 23 ,New York City, New York, United States ( aged 31 ). Cause of death Peritonitis . Occupation : Actor, He was an Italian actor who starred in several well-known SILENT films including The Four Horseman of the Apocalypse, The Sheik, Blood and Sand,The Eagle, and The Son of the Sheik. Hi was an early pop icon, a SEX Symbol of the 1920s .who was known Latin lover or simply as VALENTINO. He had applied for American citizenship shortly before his untimely death at age 31. The day he was dead was mass hysteria among his female fans and further propelled him into ICONIC status. The Four Horseman of the Apocalypse was released in 1921 and become a commercial and critical success, it was one of the first films to make $ 1,000,000 at the box office, and remains to this day the sixth-highest grossing SILENT FILM EVER. In November 1921 Valentino started alongside GLORIA SWANSON in Beyond the Rocks, VALENTINO was earning $1,250 per week, with an increase to $3,000 after three years. This was $ 7,000 per week less than MARY PICKFORD made in 1916. During the filming of Monsieur Beaucaire,both CHARLIE CHAPLIN & DOUGLAS FAIRBANKS approached Valentino privately, due to his contact with Ritz-Carlton , about joining with United Artists Valentino contact with United Artists provide $10,000 a week for only three pictures a year, plus a percentage of his films. On August 15 ,1926 ,Valentino collapsed at Hotel Ambassador on Park Avenue in Manhattan *-/-* FUNERAL :An estimate 100,000 people lined the streets of Manhattan to pay respect at his funeral, Suicides of despondent fans were reported. Windows were smashed as fans tried to get in and an all-day riot erupted on August 24 .Over 100 mounted officer's and NYPD'S Police Reserve were deployed to restore order. A phalanx of officers lined the streets for the reminder of the viewing. Polish actress POLA NEGRI, claiming to be Valentino fiancée, collapsed in hysterics while standing over the coffin. After Valentino's remains were taken by train from New York to CALIFORNIA, a second funeral was held on the West Coast. Valentino had no funeral burial arrangements and his friend JUNE MATIAS arrangements a temporary solution when she offered a crypt that had since divorced. Coincidentally, she died the following year and was interred in the adjoined crypt that she had purchased for herself, Valentino was never moved to a new location and he remained in the crypt next to Mathis. The two people are still interred side -by- side at Hollywood Forever Cemitiry (Originally Hollywood Memorial Park Cemetery ) in Hollywood, California. ***** OVER THE YEARS, A WOMAN IN BLACK CARRYING A RED ROSE HAS BECOME TO MOURN AT VALENTINO'S CRYPT, usually on the anniversary of his death. Un piccolo gesto per riportare Valentino e la sua famiglia a casa: è con queste parole che l'Amministrazione di Castellaneta, all'unanimità, ha deciso di conferire questa mattina, sabato 3 maggio, in un' aula consiliare gremita, la cittadinanza onoraria Sylvi Valentino Huber, pronipote del divo del cinema Rodolfo Valentino, giunta direttamente dagli Stati Uniti.
