The US-Canada Border Splits This Road Down The Middle
Rue Canusa (or Canusa Avenue) is a street that's split in two by a border: the northern part is in Stanstead, Canada, and the southern part is in Derby Line, USA — and border crossings here aren't as easy as they used to be.

Welcome to the town split by the Canada/U.S. border
Beebe Plain is a town divided. The Canada/U.S. border runs down the middle of Canusa Street, putting one side of the village in Quebec, and the other in Vermont. Locals describe how the necessity of routinely crossing the border has changed over the years.
Is the U.S.-Canada border secure?
CNN's Alex Marquardt is in Derby Line, Vermont, where there is some concern over security at some parts of the U.S.-Canada border.

Haskell Free Library and a walk along Ruelle Cordeau in Stanstead, Quebec, Canada
Raw footage: walk through part of the Haskell Free Library and along Ruelle Cordeau to Rue Dufferin (Route 143 Québec) between the two customs posts. My car was parked on Rue Church next to the fire hydrant.
Global National - Crackdown on Quebec border runners
Sun, Nov 18: The RCMP is cracking down on people trying to run a small Canada-U.S. border crossing in Quebec. Mike Armstrong explains how dozens of people are exploiting a legal loophole.
Did the border kill the small town of Derby Line, Vermont?
This year’s Porcupine Freedom Festival included an epic video of the NH tax collector trying and failing to crack down on unlicensed vendors, but that wasn’t the only interaction that Porcfest attendees had with police.
Several liberty activists made a “run for the border” and drove a couple hours from Lancaster, NH to Derby Line, VT which features the border crossing through the middle of the Haskell library. We wanted to see it for ourselves as well as attempting to cross on foot with various forms of identification.
Here’s a 24-minute short documentary covering what we saw and what we learned. In short, one can cross to Canada with only a driver’s license and despite what the US federal government claims, you don’t need a passport to cross back into the US, but they might hassle you. Also, Derby Line, VT and Stanstead, Quebec have been hurt economically by the border-tightening that happened around 2007. Derby Line’s commercial property is nearly completely empty, and several homes are on the market for sale. Stanstead is in somewhat better shape.
Who would want to live where most of the cars on the streets are Border Patrol vehicles? That’s life in the ghost town of Derby Line, a microcosm of what will happen to the United States if the borders continue to tighten – freedom and the economy will suffer.
US-Canada border tensions over the road
On Canusa Avenue, houses on one side of the street are in the USA, but on the other side they are in Canada. Its a spot favored by illegal immigrants, and authorities are taking notice. The US is planning to build a wall on the street, and they've already installed a customs post. Duration: 01:50

Tour of HASKELL FREE LIBRARY in Canada and U.S. - WildTravelsTV.com
Vermont's Haskell Free Library and Opera House is located right on the border between Canada and the U.S. - Quebec and Vermont.
It's the only public building that straddles the U.S. - Canadian line. which makes it the only place you can check out a book, catch a show, and defect to a foreign country without ever leaving the building. The locals seem to peacefully coexist, as WILD TRAVELS host Will Clinger found out on a 2016 visit for the second season of the show. You can visit our website for more on the other stories covered in Season 2.
WILD TRAVELS is a travel series celebrating the uniqueness of America in its unusual, eccentric, and downright quirky people, places and events.

Drive to Canusa Street and eventally to the Haskell Free Library on the Canada/US border
Drive southbound on rue Principale in Standstead to rue Canusa Street along part of the border, and eventually arriving at the Haskell Free Library which divided by the border. Note: where I paused speaking, that is near the US customs and immigration border checkpoint. I did park next to a fire hydrant beside the library.

Why Illegal border-crossers to Canada target Roxham Road
Roxham Road, where Quebec and N.Y. state meet, is the busiest illegal border crossing. It's a one way-route out of the U.S. that the Canadian government can't seem to plug.

CANUSA
We are driving South on Rue Principale towards Rue Canusa (Canusa Avenue). You see Canadian Customs on the left and US Customs/Border Patrol on the right as we approach the turn. We turn left on to Canusa. From here on the right side of the screen is Derby Line, Vermont; the left side Stanstead, Quebec. We go by Derusha Supply on the left. As the road bends left it leaves the boundary and both sides become Canadian.
