Rue d'Antibes - The main shopping street in Cannes
Rue d'Antibes is the main shopping street in Cannes. You will find Fnac, Sephora, Zara, Mango, Esprit, Madura, Diesel, Darty, Kenzo, just to name a few shops.
Rue D'Antibes goes from one end of CANNES for many miles and is lined with hundreds of beautiful shops from very expensive and chic, to less pricey, but the shops are all stand alone and not chain type stores. They all used to close for lunch from 1 until 3 but many have opted to remain open all day, making the shopping experience much better. As a pedestrian, the fact that one can zig zag across the street as traffic is slow and sparse makes it easy, and the choice of fashion is enormous. It runs parallel to la Croisette and is not full of the highest-end brands. It has everything - nice shops, movie theaters, cafes, boulangerie, interior design stores, etc. Side streets have small restaurants and galleries. French chic added with Le Notre and other wonderful local establishments. You can come here to do some actual shopping instead of just window shopping in the boardwalk. Rue d'Antibes has the best confiseries, chocolatiers and delicatessens, including Chez Bruno, 51 rue d'Antibes, crystallised fruit and marrons glacés, and Maiffret, 31 rue d'Antibes, chocolates made on the premises.
A morning on Rue D'Antibes, Cannes: Ladies in flowy dresses, mini skirts and shorts.
The main shopping street in Cannes France is called the Rue d'Antibes. Window-shopping and people-watching are nearly as enjoyable as credit card-swiping. Ladies are dressed in outfits that will will sustain the heat, in easy-breezy outfits. It's difficult to actually appear pulled together in the sweltering heat. The trick to pulling it off is all in the power of a few statement pieces — flowy dresses, mini skirts and shorts for a high-impact look that's also low-effort.

Take a stroll through Cannes as you learn about its history. Accompanied by your guide, admire the old town of La Sequet and the famous Boulevard of La Croisette. You'll begin with a walk to the old part of the city built on the site of the former Canois Castrum, a Roman town dominated by a castle, on the slopes of Mont Chevalier. As you take Rue Perissol, the road ascends to Place de La Castre, surrounded by a defensive wall and dominated by the 16th-17th century Provencal Gothic style church, Notre Dame de L'Experance. The old bell tower leads you to a long tree lined terrace, offering a fine view of the town, harbor and Ile Ste. Marguerite.
Continue on Rue Meynardier, formerly the main street linking the new town with Le Suquet. It is lined with a variety of shops and some fine 18th century doorways. Pass by the old covered market on your way to the famous Rue d'Antibes, the main shopping street. As you return to the maritime terminal along the famous Boulevard de La Croisette, see where locals stroll in the winter, and how the elegant promenade is bordered by palm trees and gardens overlooking a fine sandy beach. Luxury hotels and elegant shops line the front and side streets along with galleries, antique shops, cinemas and night clubs. At the top end of La Croisette, east of the port, is the new Festival and Conference center; the last stop before heading back to your ship.
Note: Tour participation is limited. This tour is not recommended for guests with walking difficulties. There are approximately 4 miles of walking over flat, uphill and cobblestoned terrain, with 25 steps to negotiate.

Cannes & Antibes
Cannes is one of the most legendary of towns along the Riviera, famous for the International Film Festival held in May and home to several super-deluxe luxury hotels. But surprisingly, the main shopping area and old section are down-to-earth, with normal prices and a friendly atmosphere. The nearby beautiful coastal town of Antibes can easily be explored in a couple of hours. Antibes was once a fortified village, like most of the other old towns in the south of France, and has an ancient fort in the harbor with the original wall running along the shore. After wandering through the old pedestrian section, find your way out to Rue des Revennes, which becomes Rue James Close, the most charming shopping lane in town.

Cannes on the French Riviera
We are exploring more of the beautiful French Riviera traveling by train from Nice to Cannes. Touring strategies can be summed up in a nutshell: walk from the train station to the waterfront, stroll along the shore to the Old Town, eat and shop, then meander back to the station through the pedestrian area. It’s an easy four-block walk from the Cannes train station to the shore where you can have a peek at the high life exemplified in the extraordinary hotel palaces lining the grand Boulevard de la Croisette. Cannes is one of the most famous of the towns along the French Riviera, especially noted because of the International Film Festival held here every year in the month of May. The sidewalks all around the festival hall are dimpled with many impressions from the big stars – their handprints and footprints and signatures. They flock here during the festival to show off and promote their latest flicks. The main boulevard of Cannes is the Croisette, which is like any luxury Boulevard in Europe – it’s lined with the big fancy hotels. And there's the beach on one side and a row of luxury shops -- you’ve got Louis Vuittin, and Valentino, Chanel and so on, and those top hotels. So this is one of the great neighborhoods of the city that you just absolutely must come and spend some time at.
We continue walking a few more blocks on this beautiful Rue d'Antibes. It's just a great street and yet you might easily miss it in your visit to Cannes because it's not that waterfront boulevard with the great hotels and the Film Festival Hall, and it's far from the old town about a mile down the other side – so be sure to look for this street because you'll enjoy taking a stroll here. By this point you have seen all the main highlights of Cannes except for the Old Town which is up on the hill. Now we are entering the old town of Cannes. It's just up on this hill at the end of the road, overlooking the boat harbor. You don't want to miss this, so when you are in Cannes be sure to walk down to the end of town, it just takes 15 to 20 minutes to walk down here, and have a little stroll through old Cannes. The Old Town’s pedestrian zone gently rises via staircases and the upward sloping pathway of Rue Saint-Antoine to the top of the small hill, and that provides a great view looking back across the boat harbor to the beaches, elegant hotels, marina and Festival Hall down below.
