Die hier ausgewählten Filmschätze nehmen Sie mit auf eine Zeitreise durch die Hansestadt Stralsund sowie die vorgelagerten Inseln Rügen und Hiddensee - mit sieben Kurzfilmen durch das 20. Jahrhundert.
Das Filmprogramm startet mit dem Filmfragment „Stralsund“ von 1910, dass mit zu den ältesten Aufnahmen der Stadt zählt. Es folgt „Ferienzauber an der Ostsee“ mit dem unterhaltsamen Kur- und Strandleben der damaligen Zeit. Der Film „Fährschiffverkehr Deutschland-Schweden“ von 1937 begleitet einen Dampf-Zug von Stralsund nach Trelleborg und die Aufnahmen „Unbekanntes von Rügen“ von 1938 widmen sich den unbekannten landschaftlichen Schönheiten der Insel. Auch die kleine Nachbarinsel darf nicht fehlen und stellt sich in „Hiddensee“ von 1957 vor. Der Film „Tor zum Norden“ von 1959 zeigt Ausschnitte der 725-Jahrfeier Stralsunds und die „Stralsundischen Nachrichten“ von 1977 werfen einen charmant-ironischen Blick auf die „bunten“ 70er Jahre.

Stralsund is a city in northeastern Germany in the southern Baltic Sea region . It belongs to the state of Western Pomerania in the State of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .
The Hanseatic city is located on Strelasund , a strait of the Baltic Sea. Due to its location, it is referred to as the gateway to the island of Rügen ; Stralsund is connected to it by two bridges . Stralsund is the county seat and large town in the district of Vorpommern-Rügen and with around 59,400 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2018) the fourth largest city in the county and the most populous in Western Pomerania .
In 1234 Stralsund received city rights . As a founding member of the Hanseatic League , the city came to prosperity through international trade ; from 1259 it formed the Wendish City Association of the Hanseatic League with other cities . The old town with its numerous architectural monuments and particularly valuable evidence of brick Gothic has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2002 with the title Historic Old Towns of Stralsund and Wismar . Stralsund is also known as a resort and an important tourist center of the Baltic Sea region for the German Maritime Museum with theOzeaneum , the cultural-historical Stralsund Museum and other attractions and cultural events such as the annual Wallenstein Days , the Rügen Bridge Marathon and the Harbor Festival.
Economically, tourism, shipbuilding and mechanical engineering, service companies, logistics, the health industry and companies in the field of information technology and biomedical technology dominate . The city has been the seat of Stralsund University of Applied Sciences since 1991 , and neighboring Parow has been home to the German naval engineering school since 1996 .

On day five we said goodbye to Ruegen island and hit the road once again stopping first at Stralsund. This Hanseatic city is steeped with history and is a UNESCO heritage site because its roads and city grid have remained the same over the years. With just a few hours to explore we got to see some of the impressive brick architecture, visit a fascinating museum dedicated to German playing cards and eat a Bismarck Herring sandwich for lunch. We left wishing we had a few more days instead of hours to linger.

Our final stop for the day, after being on the road for a while, was at Freilichtmuseum Klockenhagen. This open-air museum featured farm animals, theme rooms and rustic collection of artifacts. Our favorite activity was testing out the old bicycles including a Penny Farthing.

So this morning we're going to be visiting the city of Stralsund which is known for its red brick buildings. Apparently, the city dates back to medieval times and it is considered a UNESCO world heritage site because a lot of the roads are still exactly the same as what they were hundreds of years ago. So we're going to take a walking tour of the city and it should be lots of fun.
The city of Stralsund was founded back in 1234 and it was a Hanseatic city that conducted trade in the Baltic Sea. During our walking tour we learned a few interesting facts including that Stralsund was once a huge producer or playing cards. That they have one of the best examples Gothic red brick architecture and that they made one delicious Bismarck Herring sandwich.
Okay, so you seem to have found some food. What are you having? I sure have. I've found something called Bismarck Herring and it is the form of a sandwich. And it is one of the most famous things here you can have in Stralsund. So I'm going to take a bite of this. I'm really excited.
That is such a juicy and it is kind of almost a bit sour kind of fish. It is quite tasty. I like it.
So I'd like to point out that many celebrities, presidents and even royals have eaten at this restaurant including the one and only George Bush.
Half a day was not enough to do this city justice but hopefully these clips help capture the feel of the place.
Okay, so this afternoon we are visiting a place called Freilichtmuseum Klockenhagen. And it is basically an outdoor open-air museum where we can see what life was like a few centuries ago. So it is a cute little village. There is some farms and farm animals just roaming around so I think we're going to take a walk through, see what we find, maybe visit a few of the different workshops that they have here. And yeah, just have a good afternoon.
So it looks like someone found themselves a new job. Who wants to be a travel blogger when you can drive a tractor like this.
Something interesting we've been doing on the property here is they have these different theme rooms. We've checked out a classroom and over here we have different kinds of old old farming equipment. Check it out.
So this reminds me of bingo. You know how you have to roll the little thing and pick out the number. But according to this little sign here this machine was used for sorting potatoes depending on their size. Bingo, potatoes same thing you know.
It looks like we've found something a little more manageable. What have you got there? That's kind of a rattling old thing. How does it compare to a normal bike? Ah, it sounds very rusty. Is it like unstable? It is easier than the penny farthing I couldn't get on.
Ready? So this lovely little throne is called a Strandkorb and basically it is a beach chair. So here up at the Baltic Sea it is kind of windy even in the summertime so people need a little bit of protection so they can enjoy their holiday and maybe tan without getting too cold. So yeah, these little baskets are pretty cool. And you can pull this out so you have a place where to rest your feet.
And they also have a fancy little shelf so you can enjoy a glass of cold beer.

Germany: The City of Stralsund
Stralsund is a Hanseatic city in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. It is located at the Southern coast of the Strelasund (a sound of the Baltic Sea separating the island of Rugia from the mainland.
The old town island of Stralsund was awarded World Heritage status by UNESCO in 2002. It features many important historical buildings from different eras, even going back to Gothic times.
The main landmark of Stralsund is its extraordinary Brick Gothic city hall from Hanseatic times. This building from 1278 features a remarkable 'show façade' that serves the sole purpose of displaying wealth of the city. Citizens can walk through the city hall and its gallery like they could walk any other street.
The heart of the old town is the Old Market Square (Alter Markt), with the Gothic Town Hall (13th century). Behind the town hall soars the imposing Nikolaikirche (St. Nicholas' Church), built in 1270–1360. The square is surrounded by houses from different periods.

Die Hansestadt Stralsund, wegen ihrer Lage auch bekannt als Tor zur Insel Rügen ist für Filmemacher ein interessantes Fleckchen Erde. Die sanierte historische Altstadt mit ihrer Festungsmauer ist Teil des UNESCO WELTKULTURERBES und bietet Bildmaterial u. a. für historische oder märchenhafte Stoffe. Moderne Bauten, wie das Ozeaneum oder auch die Rügenbrücke verkörpern Gegenwart und Zukunft. Ebenso die Stralsunder Volkswerft mit ihrer großen Werkhalle, den Kranen, Lagerstätten und dem Industriehafen. Auch ein Blick hinter die Kulissen lohnt sich: Moderne Architektur und spannende Motive wie im Ozeaneum oder der Fachhochschule Stralsund finden sich genauso wie historische Gemäuer, Kirchen oder Alltägliches, das zum Erzählen von Geschichten notwendig ist.
Geschichten erzählen
Die Hansestadt war bereits in der Vergangenheit ein beliebter Standort für Dreharbeiten. So entstanden dort in den 30er Jahren u. a. die Spielfilme „Die elf Schillschen Offiziere“ (1932, Regie: Rudolf Meinert) und „Reifende Jugend“ (1933, Carl Fröhlich). Ende der 50er Jahre wurde in Stralsund und auf Rügen der DEFA-Film „Ein Sommertag macht noch keine Liebe“ (1959/60, Regie: Herbert Ballmann) produziert. Für zahlreiche Filme und Dokumentationen lieferten Locations in und um Stralsund über die Jahre immer wieder das passende Motiv. Auch in der Gegenwart. So erreicht die ZDF-Krimiserie „Stralsund“ (Network Movie) regelmäßig beste Einschaltquoten. Auch die TV-Zweiteiler „Die Grenze“ (2009, teamworx, Regie: Roland Suso Richter, SAT1) und „Die Gustloff“ (2007, Ufa Filmproduktion, Regie: Joseph Vilsmaier, ZDF) sorgten, hochkarätig besetzt, für eine Präsenz von Stralsund auf der Leinwand. Sowohl im Fernsehen, als auch, mit Produktionen wie „Zwölf Meter ohne Kopf“ (2010, Wüste Film, Regie: Sven Taddicken) im Kino.
Plattes Land und hohe See
Kurze Wege führen in Stralsund vom urbanen Erleben bis in die Einsamkeit des Agrarlandes Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Die berühmten unendlich weiten gelben Rapsfelder im Frühjahr, wogendes Getreide im Sommer, Windkrafträder, Mühlen, alte Bauernhöfe, saniert Gutshäuser - das alles ist ohne großen Zeitverlust genau so gut zu erreichen wie, natürlich!, die Ostsee. Der Strelasund, die Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft, das Meer, die Insel Rügen vor der Nase, ein Katzensprung nach Hiddensee... Die Natur ist nah, wenn man will.

Infrastruktur und Verkehrsanbindung
Stralsund lässt sich über direkte Anbindungen an die Autobahnen 19 und 20 hervorragend erreichen. Die Deutsche Bahn bietet eine direkte Zugverbindung bspw. von Berlin in die Hansestadt an. Viele Hotels und Pensionen können zur Übernachtung gebucht werden. Es lohnt sich eine rechtzeitige Anfrage. Branchenspezifische Infrastruktur ist in Teilen vorhanden bzw. auf kurzen Wegen erreichbar.
