A. Pushkin - To the slanderers of Russia (1831): reads: Valeri Zolotukhin (English subtitles)
Alexander Sergeevich (Aleksandr Sergeyevich) Pushkin
TO THE SLANDERERS OF RUSSIA
Why rave ye, babblers, so — ye lords of popular wonder ?
Why such anathemas 'gainst Russia do you thunder ?
What moves your idle rage? Is't Poland's fallen pride?
'T is but Slavonic kin among themselves contending,
An ancient household strife, oft judged but still unending,
A question which, be sure, you never can decide.
For ages past still have contended,
These races, though so near allied:
And oft 'neath Victory's storm has bended
Now their, and now our side.
Which shall stand fast in such commotion
The haughty Liakh, or faithful Russ?
And shall Slavonic streams meet in a Russian ocean? -
Or il't dry up? This is point for us.
Leave us!: Your eyes are all unable
To read our history's bloody table;
Strange in your sight and dark must be
Our springs of household enmity!
To you the Kreml and Prága's tower
Are voiceless all, you mark the fate
And daring of the battle-hour
And understand us not, but hate.
What stirs ye ?
Is it that this nation,
On Moscow's flaming walls, blood-slaked and ruin-quench'd,
Spurn'd back the insolent dictation
Of Him before whose nod ye blenched?
Is it that into dust we shatter'd,
The Dagon that weigh'd down all earth so wearily,
And our best blood so freely scatter'd,
To buy for Europe peace and liberty?
Ye're bold of tongue — but hark, would ye in deed but try it
Or is the hero, now reclined in laurelled quiet,
Too weak to fix once more, Izmail's red bayonet?
Or hath the Russian Tsar ever, in vain commanded?
Or must we meet all Europe banded?
Have we forgot to conquer yet ?
Or rather, shall they not, from Perm to Tauris' fountains,'
From the hot Colchian steppes, to Finland's icy mountains,
From the grey, half-shatter'd wall,
To fair Kathay, in dotage buried
A steely rampart, close and serried,
Rise, Russia's warriors, one and all?
Then send your numbers without number,
Your madden'd sons, your goaded slaves,
In Russia's plains there's room to slumber,
And well they'll know their brethren's graves !
1831.

Alexander Park - Tsarskoe Selo
The Alexander Park runs directly to the west of the Catherine Palace, and covers around 200 hectares. It begins with what is left of the New Garden, a square surrounded by the Cross Canal and divided into four smaller squares, each with a complex geometrical lay-out. Constructed in the reign of Elizabeth, the New Garden is now almost completely overgrown, with the most visible remains being Mount Parnassus, a small artificial hill covered in birches, and the Mushroom Bed, a convergence of eight little alleys marked by unusually shaped wrought-iron benches that took the place of a gazebo in the early 19th century. At the centre of one of the quarters of the New Garden stand the remains of the Chinese Theatre, once a full-size opera house with an intimate but extraordinarily sumptuous interior. The original plans for the Chinese Theatre date from 1770 and were the work of celebrated Antonio Rinaldi, who had already built for Catherine the superb Chinese Palace at Oranienbaum. Erected in 1778, the building's relatively simple exterior, the upturned roofs of which were the only real concession to Orientalism, belied the extravagance of the interiors, which were a riot of Chinoiserie decorations that liberal employed gold and silver leaf, embroidered silk, porcelain chandeliers, and antique lacquer paneling. Although the Chinese Theatre was rarely used after Catherine's death, it experienced a revival in the reign of Nicholas II, when the stage was once again used for gala and command performances. Unfortunately, the Chinese Theatre was one of the first architectural victims of the Nazi invasion, and was completely gutted during the shelling of Pushkin in 1941.
Rinaldi's plans envisioned a whole village of Chinese-style buildings around the theatre. His concept was eventually executed in the 1780s further south in the park by Charles Cameron and the Russian father-son team of Vasily and Peter Neyelov. The Chinese Village consists of ten single-storey cottages surrounding an octagonal pagoda-observatory. Still unfinished at the time of Catherine's death, the Chinese Village was reworked and completed by Vasily Stasov in the 1820s, and was turned into guest apartments, frequented by the likes of the famous Russian historian Nikolai Karamzin. The village has been fully restored, and the cottages once again serve as apartments, leased to help raise funds for the restoration of the park. The landscaped park, which stretches north-east from the New Garden, was mostly laid out in the 1820s by Scottish-born architect Adam Menelas in the romantic style. Among the winding alleyways and varied woodland, Menelas constructed several gothic follies. Ironically, the best preserved is probably the Chapelle, which was designed to represent a ruined medieval belltower. The castle-like Arsenal and White Tower, which was designed as a playground for the children of Nicholas I, were both severely damaged during the Second World War, and are currently undergoing restoration/reconstruction. Close to the Arsenal can also be found the Retirement Stables, which Menelas built for Nicholas I as a home for horses retired from service in the Imperial stables in St. Petersburg. This red-brick pavilion with gothic touches has survived almost fully intact, and nearby there is a Horse Cemetery, where more than 110 of the Imperial family's favourite horse were buried up until 1917.
Also in the far north of the Alexander Park can be found St. Fyodor's Imperial Cathedral and the Fyodorovskiy Gorodok, the latter a barracks for the soldiers of the Imperial bodyguard formed after the assassination of Alexander II. The cathedral was their parish church, completed in 1912 in the Russian Revival style. It also became the house church for Nicholas II and his family. Although severely damaged by Nazi attacks, it has now been almost completely restored, and is once again an active church.

Russia/Moscow (Alexander Gardens) by night Part 8
Welcome to my travelchannel. On my channel you can find almost 1000 films of more than 70 countries.
See the playlist on my youtube channel.Enjoy!
Alexander Gardens (Russian: Александровский сад) was one of the first urban public parks in Moscow, Russia. The park comprises three separate gardens, which stretch along all the length of the western Kremlin wall for 865 metres (2,838 ft) between the building of the Moscow Manege and the Kremlin.
After the Napoleonic Wars, Tsar Alexander I ordered architect Osip Bove to reconstruct parts of the city which had been destroyed by French troops. Bove laid out a new garden from 1819-1823, on the site of the riverbed of the Neglinnaya River, which was channeled underground.
Upper Garden
Towards the main entrance to the park is the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier with an eternal flame brought from the Field of Mars in Leningrad. Created in 1967, it contains the body of a soldier who fell during the Great Patriotic War at the kilometer 41 marker of Leningradskoe Shosse, the nearest point the forces of Nazi Germany penetrated towards Moscow. Post Number One, where the honor sentinels stand on guard, used to be located in front of Lenin's Mausoleum, but was moved to the Tomb of The Unknown Soldier in the 1990s. The middle section of the upper garden contains a faux ruined grotto built underneath the Middle Arsenal Tower. Although not constructed until 1841, this was part of Bove's original design. The garden's cast iron gate and grille were designed to commemorate the Russian victories over Napoleon, and its rocks are rubble from buildings destroyed during the French occupation of Moscow.
In front of the grotto is an obelisk erected on July 10 1914, a year after the tercentenary of the Romanov dynasty was celebrated. The monument made of granite from Finland listed all of the Romanov Tsars and had the coats of arms of the (Russian) provinces. Four years later, the dynasty was gone, and the Bolsheviks (per Lenin’s directive on Monumental propaganda) removed the imperial eagle, and re-carved the monument with a list of 19 socialist and communist philosophers and political leaders, personally approved by Lenin. Originally in the Lower Garden, it was relocated to its present location in 1966. There is discussion to remove Lenin's and reinstall an obelisk duplicating the original.
The wrought iron grille, enclosing this part of the garden, has a design of fasces, which are intended to commemorate the military victory over Napoleon.
The northern part of the garden is adjacent to the large underground shopping complex at Manege Square.
Middle Garden
The most prominent feature of the Middle Garden is the outlying Kutafya Tower of the Moscow Kremlin. There is an entrance to the park opposite the tower directly to the Moscow Metro system.
Lower Garden
Laid out in 1823, the Lower Garden stretches to the road leading to the Borovitskaya Tower, one of two vehicular and pedestrian entrances to the Kremlin.Wikipedia

The Foggy Morning
The text of the song is written by Ivan Turgenev, the music is by B. Abaz. English translation, orchestration and performance by A. Epelbaum.
The Foggy Morning
The foggy morning, gray headed morning!
Fields - under a grayish blanket of snow!
You should remember now all old worries,
Forgotten dearest, forgotten vows. ! 2
You can remember the passioned speeches,
Gazes, which were once so greedily caught,
The very first meeting, and the last meeting,
Voice, what always is in your thoughts. ! 2
You can remember the pain of the parting,
So many things, - since long ago around,
Listening to wheels under snowfall's starting,
Losing sad gazes in high, densing clouds. ! 2
Palace at Pavlovsk. Grand Dining room.(Павловск. Парадная столовая.)
The Dining Room, which is the largest of the ground-floor rooms, was designed by Cameron; the work of decoration started by him was finished by Brenna. The rhythmic pattern of white fluted pilasters with Corinthian capitals on a pale pistachio green background of the walls gives the hall a dignified air. The walls are surmounted by a moulded frieze with acanthus scrolls, classical vases, cupids, lions, etc.
The large oval bay-leaf garland in the centre of the ceiling was intended as a frame for a panel which, however, was never painted. In reconstructing the hall, Voronikhin very tactfully added to Cameron's ceiling decoration a finely designed moulded border harmonizing with the frieze. The lush acanthus that Voronikhin was so fond of, agrees perfectly with Cameron's architectural idiom - an antique ornament in low relief on a delicately coloured background.
The plate-glass French windows of the Dining Room open upon a broad granite stairway leading down to the park. This creates a sense of unity with nature, which is further sustained by landscape panels on the Dining Room walls, depicting park scenery with the waterfall on the Slavianka, the Ruin Cascade in Old Sylvia, the Temple to Friendship and the Peel Tower, painted by the Russian artist Andrey Martynov in 1800.
Many objects in porcelain decorating the interiors record the early period of Pavlovsk, as for example articles made at the St Petersburg Imperial Porcelain Factory and painted after the drawings by Andrey Martynov and his teacher Semion Shchedrin. The medallions on the two companion vases created about 1763, now exhibited in the Dining Room, show the town's first buildings, Paullust and Marienthal, some of the park pavilions and even Cameron's palace in the process of building, with minute figures of workmen on the scaffolding.
Another art treasure exhibited in the Dining Room is the so-called Guryev dinner service of porcelain, with sculptural decorations executed from the models of Stepan Pimenov. It was made between 1807 and 1817 at the St Petersburg Imperial Porcelain Factory.
The Guryev service is remarkable for the subject matter of its painted and sculptural decorations. A work of court art, it evinces a hitherto most unusual interest in the life of the common people. This has an explanation in the history of the country. The War of 1812 against Napoleon, whose armies had invaded Russia, caused a tremendous growth of patriotic feeling among all strata of Russian society. The tall dessert vases of the Guryev service, intended to occupy a prominent position along the central line of the table, are decorated with sculptural figures of peasant girls in Russian national costume. Motifs of Russian country dances are painted on the ice pails, and figures in national costume representing the various peoples of the Russian empire, on the plates. The wine-coolers are embellished with views of Moscow and St Petersburg and their environs, done after the canvases and drawings of such landscape painters as Semion Shchedrin or Fiodor Alexeyev. The deep, rich russet ground tone in combination with gold gives the service an air of splendour and dignity.
Scenic Tallinn
Your tour begins with a scenic drive through the cultural heart of Tallinn. View the Tall Herman Tower, one of the three remaining towers of the Knights of the Sword Castle. From the base of the nearby Cannon Tower, enjoy a wonderful view of the churches and towers of Tallinn's Upper Town. You'll then continue through Kadriorg Park, a true highlight with its charming Baroque ensemble that was designed as a summer residence for Peter the Great. You'll also see the beautiful Swan Pond where a photo stop will be made. You'll visit the Song Festival Ground, a natural amphitheater that hosts Estonia's national song festivals. You'll pass by the Forest Cemetery where distinguished Estonians are buried amongst the pine trees, before continuing on to Pirita, the beachside location of the yachting complex built for the 1980 Olympic Games. From this vantage point, the 16th century ruins of St. Bridget's Convent can be seen. As you return to the harbor, you'll drive past the summer residence of Count Orlov and the delightful statue of Russalka, Estonia's mermaid, on the sea coast.
