Ampurias, also known as Empúries (Greek: Ἐμπόριον, Catalan: Empúries [əmˈpuɾiəs], Spanish: Ampurias [amˈpuɾjas]), was a town on the Mediterranean coast of the Catalan comarca of Alt Empordà in Catalonia, Spain. It was founded in 575 BC by Greek colonists from Phocaea with the name of Ἐμπόριον (Emporion, meaning trading place, cf. emporion). It was later occupied by the Romans (Latin: Emporiæ), but in the Early Middle Ages, when its exposed coastal position left it open to marauders, the town was abandoned.
The ruins are midway between the Costa Brava town of L'Escala and the tiny village of Sant Martí. There are good car parking facilities and the site may be reached by a traffic-free coastal walk from L'Escala.
Ampurias was founded on a small island at the mouth of the river Fluvià, in a region inhabited by the Indigetes. This city came to be known as the Palaiapolis, the old city when, towards 550 BC, the inhabitants moved to the mainland, creating the Neapolis, the new city.
Although the precise location of the town was known since the 15th century, it was only in the 20th century that systematic excavations were carried out. The first official excavations started in 1908 and were held by the Junta de Museus de Barcelona and directed by Emili Gandia i Ortega under the instructions of Josep Puig i Cadafalch and Pere Bosch-Gimpera. These excavations are still going on.
The branch of the Archaeology Museum of Catalonia in Empúries (MAC-Empúries) strives to offer visitors a thrilling, enriching experience in direct contact with the archaeological remains there. A visit to the Greek city – the only one still conserved in the Iberian Peninsula – and the Roman city are complemented by a tour through the museum, which showcases representative objectives from the history of the site that have been uncovered in the more than 100 years of excavations in Empúries .

Empúries, Greek and Roman Ruins in Spain
In Ancient times there was a city called Phocaea, in the geographical area that today is Turkey. 2600 years ago greek colonists from Phocaea traveled west and reached this coast of north-east Spain to found a new settlement. It became Emporion, a thriving center for commerce and merchants. Later, Emporion was occupied by the romans and to the original greek settlement, just few meters from the beach, a new Roman portion of the city was added, slightly more inland. The city prospered for centuries, but then fell in decline in the early medieval age, when its very exposed position made it too vulnerable to marauders. Meanwhile other Roman cities in the area were gaining more power, like Barcino (Barcelona) and Tarraco (Tarragona). Here is how Empúries looks today, in ruins. The statue is a copy of the original (kept inside the museum) but it's placed in the location where the original standed. It probably depicts Asclepius, greek god of healing and medicine.

Around the Planet ancient advanced technology portals have survived the cataclysms of the past. In the last 2,000 to 3,000 years the resonance lock was lost between Earth and higher dimensions. In the Aquarius Tech Age these portal alignments are rebooting - a phenomenon that will allow humans to leave Earth in the next 300 to 1,000 years of planetary development.

Top 5 luxury hotels in Costa Brava Spain:
1. Hotel Camiral - Caldes de Malavella, Catalonia, Costa Brava Spain
Five star luxury with first class service, facilities and food. Entirely restructured by the Catalan architect and interior designer Lázaro Rosa-Violan Hotel looks chic, versatile and modern with a sense of contemporary grandeur, but it is not stuffy. The living room has retro chandeliers next to brown leather sofas, orange carpets and white curtains. The corridors are equipped with black, velvet carpets and beautiful pottery vases in the Greek style, which look as if they can be borrowed from the British Museum. In addition to the golf courses, there is a large infinity pool and a small paddling pool, as well as a sun terrace with loungers. There is also a wellness center with treatment rooms.
2. Hotel Peralada Wine Spa & Golf - Peralada, Catalonia, Costa Brava Spain
A luxury hotel on the Costa Brava with its own golf course, spa and elegant restaurant Aires. Not to mention a vineyard, a wine museum and a nearby castle. It is a true paradise for wine lovers. The modern exterior of red brick claims the interior comfort. As soon as you enter the foyer, the soft carpet, the space and the high ceilings give a sense of class. The style is modern without being updated, and the brick arches of the restaurant recall the medieval heritage of the village. The spa also elegantly refers to the wine baths of the hotel, with large wooden barrels for used towels and tasteful images with wine themes on the walls.
3. Hostal Spa Empúries - Empúries, Catalonia, Costa Brava Spain
With its sleek, modern interior and location on the coast, this is the trendy beach hotel. Next to the vast Greek-Roman ruins of Empúries, the hotel is located directly on the beautiful wild bay of Playa del Portitxol. There are nothing more than pine trees and some xiringuitos (beach bars). The original building still has the feeling of a grand old hotel with high ceilings and an old school building, almost colonial atmosphere, while the new extension is all white rectangles, elegant modernists. Large windows flood public spaces with daylight, while solar panels heat the building.
4. Hotel Castell d'Empordà - La Bisbal, Catalonia, Costa Brava Spain
Set on a hill opposite the ceramic city of La Bisbal, this 14th-century castle has been beautifully transformed into a tasteful 4-star hotel with excellent Catalan cuisine, modern interiors and spectacular views of the countryside. It is exceptional value, especially out of season. The Dutch owner, Albert Diks, has managed to preserve the original character of Castle Rapunzel and at the same time make the place beautiful. There is a beautiful blend of Indian silk, Moroccan floor tiles, antiques from the Far East and beautiful glass chandeliers.
5. Hotel Aigua Blava - Begur, Catalonia, Costa Brava Spain
This elegant hotel overlooking the beautiful bay of Aiguablava has one of the most beautiful areas of the Costa Brava. It may just be a 4-star hotel, but the old-fashioned charm, the excellent restaurant and the spectacular views are unmistakably five. Most rooms are elegant and contemporary, while some of the lounges are charming old fashioned with traditional Spanish pottery and golden impressionist style oil on the walls. The wood-paneled bar has large black and white splatters from some of the hotel's historic hosts, from bullfighters to movie stars such as Rock Hudson and Kirk Douglas.
