It's cherry blossom season! Today, I want to introduce one of my favorite 'hanami' spots - the ruins of Matsusaka castle. Aside from being a beautiful place to go for a stroll and enjoy the sakura blossoms, there is a special reason why this is one of the most suitable places in Japan to appreciate this season...

Nagoya, Matsusaka, Nagashima 20-22 Dec 2018.
Transfered back from Gero to Nagoya. Visited Oasis Twenty One. Following day went Matsusaka, visited Matsusaka Castle ruin which only the walls remain and sample the famous Matsusaka beef for lunch. Worth to mention that A5 grade Matsusaka beef is equally if not better than Kobe at a very much cheaper price similarly to Hida beef. Japan really have many quality wahyu beef and Kobe is just one of them that is more popular hence the hefty price. From Matsusaka we then went to Nagashima to view Nabana no sato which is a display of light and night illumination of a park. Very nice night view. Last day at Nagoya is just shopping and get ready to head home after this 10 days trip.

Breakfast at 7 a.m. Back to a buffet. It seems the hotel has more guests now – lots of business men and other blue collar working folks. I decided to make use of my railpass and check out the coast line going up from Shingu to Nagoya so I jumped on the Nagoya bound train. Getting to Shingu from Shirahama I saw some spectacular coastal views. Going up the railroad tracks from Shingu, there were fewer views as the tracks are more inland and lots of buildings and trees block out the views. Would be better to drive if one wants to see more coastal views. After 2+ hours, I dropped off at Matsusaka city. This would have cost me 7170-yen or roughly $65. Nice quiet town with many Edo period merchant buildings nicely preserved. Stopped at a place when I saw this nice old looking building with the sign “LUNCH” spelled “ランチ”. Had to take off shoes and I was led to a tatami room. Would have had to sit on the floor but knowing I’m a westerner, they offered one of the low chairs. Found out this place was a ryokan, a Japanese lodging place (hotel) that opens up its restaurant to the public. Continued BURA-BURA and got to the Matsusaka castle ruins park. Did the usual climbing up/down the old castle stone steps and looked at various views of the city. Walked around town heading back to the train along different streets and ran into a row of those old Edo styled buildings. Caught the 2:16 p.m. train back – another 2+ hours/7170-yen ride to Shingu and called it a day.

In this video, let me show you a little about 2 tourist spots of Tsu city, Mie prefecture.
1) Aoyama Highland or Aoyamakogen is part of a Japan's Quasi-National Park, Murou-Aoyama-Akame.
You can enjoy the view of the largest wind farm in Honshu, the main island of Japan.
This spot can be a right spot for those who want to enjoy hiking or driving.
2) Kazahayanosato Flower Park is a park where you can enjoy beautiful flowers and blossoms such as wisteria, hydrangea and apricot.
The park is so designed that you can enjoy a walk with such beautiful plants around.
