Starting on a Metropolitan Line S Stock train we arrive at Ruislip, call in at Waitrose for a coffee before walking thought a pleasant residential area to Park Woods which we walk through to Ruislip Lido itself.
After a quick walk on the beach we have a look behind the scenes at the carriage and engine sheds along with their P Way yard and workshop where we see their steam locomotive Mad Bess based on ‘Blanche’ on the Ffestiniog Railway in North Wales.
We then enjoy a look in the control office before buying a ticket to Haste Hill, the least used station in London. On the way we look at how the railway has developed.
The Ruislip Lido Railway first opened in 1946, taken over by the society in 1980, extended to Eleanor’s Loop in 1986. The line was extended again to Haste Hill to in 1992 and finally to Ruislip Lido station in 1997 which has since been renamed Willow Lawn.

Scenes from the Ruislip Lido Railway, a miniature railway in the North West suburbs of London that runs around the north side of the Ruislip Lido. The railway has a gauge of 305 mm and features 6 locomotives, one of which is steam though was not in operation on the day of visit. This program includes stills from the sheds of locomotives, rolling stock and maintenance equipment used to maintain the railway.

Sorry! I have just found out that I had forgot to edit and upload this video of the Ruislip Railway.This railway is 12 inch gauge,this is very rare.This is one of the best presented railways we have visited for a while,they also have plans on double tracking the line,this will allow them to move the large crowds faster.You can see the new track being laid in the video.

On Thursday I visited the delightful 12 gauge Ruislip Lido Railway. This narrow gauge line, the only privately operated railway in Greater London, uses an almost unique 12 inch track gauge and normally relies on a fleet of distinctive diesel locomotives.

Ruislip Lido Railway - 19th August 2018 (4K)
On the 19th August 2018, whilst in the area, we decided to make a trip to the Ruislip Lido Railway. They were running their Yellow Timetable with John Rennie in action.
This video shows some public viewing points of the line, and also some on train footage.
The Ruislip Lido Railway is a superb line, and we would definitely recommend a visit if you are in the area.

A visit to the 12 gauge Ruislip Lido Railway near London on its 30th Anniversary Locomotive Gala & Open Day, on Sunday 12th September 2010. This event saw all the railway's locomotives in traffic with a variety of double-heading & other unusual movements.
Ruislip Lido Railway | First trains over the remodelled Wellington Junction
A few clips of 'John Rennie' hauling the first trains over the remodelled Wellington Junction on Saturday February 11th following our annual maintenance shutdown. Thank you to member Mike Kirwan for the footage.
We've completed a staggering amount of work during the shutdown, with a lot of additional jobs completed too. To pick just a few;
The points from Eleanor's Loop South have now been installed on the down line, to give access onto the new Down line, and across the crossover onto the Up line when required. The new railway signage has been completed from Woody Bay right through to Eleanor's, and looks very neat indeed. Eleanor's Loop is now Eleanor's Junction, to reflect the change of function in the area, although the old station name board will remain!
The new Down line to Willow Lawn is not yet open, awaiting completion in the coming weeks.
There are still a few finishing touches left on the whole area, with the other half of the retaining wall to put in, installation of new point locking mechanisms, installation of marker posts, and a follow up tamping session on the entire area once it has bedded down, to enable the removal of the temporary speed restriction.
The ballast will be tidied into its final alignment, and we will then be very proud indeed!

Footage from the Ruislip Lido Railways 2019 gala. The narrow gauge railway has been open since 1979 and celebrated its 40th anniversary by offering free train rides on June 15th and 16th. The depot normally closed off to the public also opened its doors and provided the opportunity to see the works along with static exhibits also. The Ruislip Lido railway is Britains longest 12 guage railway and runs 1.5 miles. footage contains a ride from the two stations Woody bay - Willow Lawn as well as look inside the works she at woody Bay.
