Mass Games at May Day Stadium, Pyongyang, North Korea
Another short clip from the Mass Games performance in Pyongyang. This scene here is highlighting the agricultural prowess of the country.
The performance ran about 90 minutes and was quite a spectacle. The background is made by 20,000 schoolchildren holding up special books, which are turned to a specific page for each scene change.
No camcorders were allowed into the event. So, I took this video using my regular digital camera. This is why the resolution is not the best.

Arirang Mass Games DPRK Pyongyang North Korea
The Grand Mass Gymnastics and Artistic Performance Arirang 아리랑 축제 아리랑 祝祭 are held in the Rungrado May Day Stadium in Pyongyang, North Korea. The two-month gymnastics and artistic festival celebrates the birthday of Kim Il-sung 15 April.
The Mass Games praise the Workers Party of North Korea, its armed forces, Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il. North Korean iconography:- a rising sun symbolizes Kim Il Sung. When a gun is shown, it signifies the gun which Kim Il Sung gave to his son Kim Jong Il. The color red, particularly in flowers, stands for the working class. And the color purple and red flowers represent Kim Il Sung (the flower 'Kimilsungia is a purple orchid and the flower 'Kimjongilia' is a red begonia). A snowy mountain with a lake represents Mount Paektu where Kim Jong Il (who North Koreans believe) was born in a log cabin.
The opening event of the two month festival is the mass games, which are famed for the huge mosaic pictures created by more than 30,000 school children, each holding up coloured cards, accompanied by complex and highly choreographed group routines performed by tens of thousands of gymnasts and dancers.

More about my trip to the DPRK here:
During an exciting four-day trip to North Korea (officially DPRK) with tour group Koryo Tours, I was lucky enough to see a football match between DPRK and the Philipines. It was a FIFA World Cup 2018 qualifying match which ended in a 0-0 draw, sadly.
Pay attention to how big and how organised that crowd is on the other side. Amazing.

In celebration of North Korea's 70th Founding Anniversary.
What are the Mass Games?
The Mass Games are a 90-minute, stadium-sized, synchronized gymnastics performance featuring as many as 100,000 volunteer participants against the backdrop of a massive, ever-changing human-powered “Jumbotron.
The Human Jumbotron
One of the most spectacular sights at the Mass Games is the giant mosaic Jumbotron, which is made up of tens of thousands of individual students. The North Koreans have boasted it to be the largest picture in the world.
Also known as the Arirang Mass Games, or the Arirang Festival, a mass gymnastics and artistic festival held in the Rungrado May Day Stadium in Pyongyang, North Korea.
The Arirang Mass Games were performed annually until 2013, after which they were discontinued for unknown reasons despite their popularity.
The popular show has finally returned after 5 years, and will run for 1 month starting September 9, 2018. The first night of the performance was attended by the Supreme Leader, Kim Jong-Un (cameras were not allowed, and audience were heavily screened). We watched it again on September 12 and there were no more security checks and cameras were allowed.
This year’s return performance will be titled “The Glorious Country.”
On Aug. 14, 2007, the Guinness World Records recognized the Arirang Mass Games as the largest gymnastics display in the world, with 100,090 participants.
The games take place at Rungrado May Day Stadium in Pyongyang, the largest stadium in the world in terms of capacity (approximately 150,000)
