FAMILY TRAVELS - BARCELONA
A few stroller friendly adventures for your Kids in Barcelona.
Hi Everyone, I'm Dilys. Welcome to the third video of my brand new channel called The Desert Island Travelers. We are a husband, wife and infant trio who moved from the Caribbean to the Middle East. We travel a lot for work...and play... and have picked up a few tips along the way. We started this channel to share some of them with you.
Our Italian Cruise left from Barcelona but we didn't get enough time to explore the city. We had 4 days off and decided to head back to see what Barcelona was really about.
From the sights and sounds of Ciutadella park to the breathtaking ride to the Monjüic Castle...Barcelona is a place your children will thoroughly enjoy.
Head over to our brand new blog for a detailed list of all the places we visited and where we ate. The blog includes links, prices and recommendations. As always, all our trips are stroller friendly and we have included many tips about getting around this beautiful city. If you are someone who is thinking about taking a trip to Barcelona, with or without kids, the blog is the best place to start.
Thanks so much for watching and I hope this video and the blog helps you plan a great trip to Barcelona.
Feel free to contact us at any time for any questions you may have.

The 10 best family city breaks in Europe
The 10 best family city breaks in Europe
1. Paris, France
Paris has absolutely tons of things for kids to do, from ogling giant whale skeletons at the Museum of Natural History’s Palaeontology and Comparative Anatomy Gallery to exploring the wonderfully quirky Magic Museum , which boasts a collection of more than 100 bizarre mechanical figurines as well as all sorts of curious magic knick knacks.
Meanwhile, Parc de la Villette is home to the mother of all playgrounds in the form of the Jardin des Dunes et des Vents, which features giant hamster wheels, a zip line and all sorts of things for kids to clamber over.
2. Rome, Italy
The Leonardo Da Vinci Museum features more than 200 machines designed by the Renaissance genius, as well as 51 working models. Kids will be fascinated by his exotic designs for war machines, helicopters and gliders.
You’ll need to get up pretty early to climb the cupola of St Peter’s Basilica in The Vatican, as the queues can quickly become enormous, but it’s more than worth it for the views from the top of this enormous church, which tops out at just over 136 metres.
3. Copenhagen, Denmark
Copenhagen is packed with things to do for families. For a start, it’s home to not one, but two amusement parks. Bakken, ten minutes’ drive north of the city, is the world’s oldest amusement park, dating back to 1583. The main attraction is an 82-year-old wooden rollercoaster, but the park’s location in the middle of Dyrehavsbakken wood offers some relaxing strolls along with thrill rides.
4. Amsterdam, The Netherlands
Amsterdam may conjure up images of liberal drug laws and carnal delights, but don’t be fooled – the city is actually a haven for children.
The lack of traffic and plethora of waterways make it a delight for families to walk around – or even better, bike. Bicycle rental shops are scattered across Amsterdam, with the most famous probably being Yellow Bike, and taking to two wheels is the perfect way to explore the city’s canals.
5. Barcelona, Spain
The Antoní Gaudi-designed Parc Guell in Barcelona is a great place for kids to explore thanks to its colourful mosaic and fanciful lizard statues, and it provides great views across the city, too.
Elsewhere, the Aquarium is stuffed with more than 450 different animal species that will get the kids oohing and aahing in wonder – especially as they walk through the 80-metre underwater tunnel while sharks and rays glide overhead.
6. Berlin, Germany
On windy days, children of all ages head to Tempelhofer Feld to fly kites, but even when the wind is calm you can find plenty of Berliners engaging in all sorts of sporty activities in this enormous park.
Children and adults alike will find plenty to fascinate them in the excellent DDR Museum, which features recreations of German homes during the days of communist East Germany (the DDR), along with quirky insights into daily life.
7. Lisbon, Portugal
Simply getting around in Lisbon can be a fun family activity: the distinctive red trams shunt their way past all of the major historical sights, and a day ticket will let you hop on and off anywhere you like for 24 hours.
But even more fun is a ride on one of the amphibious vehicles operated by Hippotrip. The aquatic bus tours the city’s landmarks before taking a dramatic plunge into the waters of the River Tagus.
8. Brussels, Belgium
Belgium is synonymous with chocolate, and Brussels has a museum dedicated to the stuff in the form of The Choco Story, with live chocolate-making sessions and an exhibition about the history of the cocoa bean – and a chance to sample the goods, of course.
Once they’ve satisfied their chocolate cravings, kids will want to make a beeline for the Comics Art Museum, where they’ll find a permanent exhibition on Hergé, creator of Tintin, as well as a look at the origin of comic strips.
9. Gothenburg, Sweden
Thanks to its relatively small population of just over 500,000 people, Gothenburg is one of Europe’s less frantic major cities, making it ideal for a relaxed family trip. The city is famed for its buzzing café culture and gorgeous green spaces, and the narrow cobbled streets and squares of the city can easily be traversed on foot.
Trädgårdsföreningen park is an elegant botanical garden that features a nineteenth-century palm house built in the style of London’s long-lost Crystal Palace, and it makes an ideal place for a family picnic.
10. Dubrovnik, Croatia
This beautiful city boasts a clutch of fantastic beaches in addition to a plethora of buildings dating back to the Middle Ages. In fact, you may have seen the city’s medieval walls already – they appear on TV’s Game of Thrones from season two onwards as the fictional city of King’s Landing. You can get a feel for the layout of the city and its famous walls by heading up Mount Srd on the cable car.
Barcelona Off The Beaten Path - Travel Tips
Get to know Barcelona off the beaten track and see what else is on offer in the city other than the main tourist attractions. From the best undiscovered views to some great places for tapas, make the most of your time in Barcelona and enjoy the city like a local.

Lake District, The Complete Tour, England
The Lake District in northwest England is a very popular holiday destination, famous for lakes, forests, mountains and quaint villages. It was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2017. We are staying in Bowness-on-Windermere for several days of fun excursions.
Click to Subscribe
our tour arranged by:
Four of the top activities are exploring the towns, taking boat rides, do a little nature walking, and take a driving tour of the region to see the other nearby lakes and quaint villages. Most of our program takes place during a van tour of the lakes that visits 10 different lakes, including Brotherswater, Derwent Water, Grasmere, Ullswater and Windermere. On the van ride we also take a walk in the village of Grasmere, famous for William Wordsworth. You will be amazed by Castlerigg Stone Circle, 4500 years old, one of the area’s historic gems. Then we take a lunch stop in Keswick, whilst exploring the traditional Lakeland market town. We also do a Lake Cruise, enjoying uninterrupted views of the Lakeland fells from Derwent Water.
You can pick from a variety of kinds of excursion boats on Lake Windermere: you can have a one-hour cruise or go for an all-day expedition. You could enjoy a cruise with dinner, there are hydrofoils, rowboats or sailboats for rent -- all kinds of nautical activities exist here on the shores of Lake Windermere.
By the end of the 18th century the region was already becoming popular with visitors and this has steadily grown to the point where today nearly 20 million annual visitors enjoy the beauties of this special place. This huge amount of tourists can be a challenge to deal with in your visit, but you will find the beauties of the natural landscapes make your efforts quite worthwhile. In this show we have useful suggestions to help your planning.
Summer season is obviously most crowded and brings with it the best weather with least chances of rain, so take your chances, but we suggest the shoulder season, like the visit shown here which was during May, a perfect time to visit. We never felt inconvenienced by any crowds. After all, facilities like hotels and restaurants are able to handle the peak crowds of summer, so if you are here in May, with proper reservations at a decent hotel, you will have no problems. Of course the summer is when everybody wants to be here but we find that May is ideal.
You’ll need to spend at least several nights in the area this to really get a chance to see the charming countryside, explore some towns, go shopping, and perhaps enjoy some fine dining. This is actually two towns joined together as one: Windermere is a mile to the north and Bowness-on-Windermere lies along the shores of the lake. Each center has its cluster of shops and restaurants, but the main focus is down at Bowness, which has most of the hotels and that special setting along the water.
The town of Bowness is a good base of operations for heading out to see the other lakes in the district and enjoying some day tours as we will be doing.
Windermere is the largest and the longest lake in the British Isles, about 10 miles long with a 24-mile circumference, and there are several villages along the shores of the lake. We see Lake Windermere the easy way, on a boat ride.
We are travelling in mid-May and ran into some great weather. And actually it’s quite pleasant the temperature here is in the low 70s there is a slight breeze on the lake but not terribly windy. a most pleasant day.
The temperature is pleasant enough that it’s comfortable to sit outside, After all you want the view -- that’s why we’re enjoying this boat ride, to have a look at this charming rolling countryside along the shores of the lake of Windermere.
Some of us decided to get off the boat at Ambleside which is one of the main small towns here in the Lake Country. There's a level nature trail from the boat dock to Ambleside town passing first through an open meadow with some Roman ruins visible, and then along beautiful stream. We also get to see the sheep frolicking around. The walk only took about the walk only took about 30 minutes.
We came upon foundations of ancient Roman buildings. From such forts the Romans could control hundreds of square miles. the army was staffed in part by Roman soldiers and mercenaries, some of them from Yugoslavia. Roman rule began in Britain back in A.D. 43. A massive army of 40,000 soldiers quickly conquered most of the island and Romans remained in control for the next 300 years.
When the path follows along the stream it becomes so beautiful, lined with wildflowers, that you feel you stepped into some kind of movie or dream. Those few minutes became one of the top highlights of the three-week tour of the British Isles. A simple walk through the woods could provide a transcendental experience.

11. Santiago de Compostela. Hotel Pazo de Altamira is a lovely, modern hotel within a gorgeous old Galician stone building. And it’s right opposite the fabulous market!
10. Jerez de la Frontera. Definitely try and stay at the famous Hotel Casa Grande - a big old mansion with a gorgeous rooftop terrace for drinks -
9. Vera Valley. I would suggest staying in the village Valverde de la Vera and my pick is the cosy and rustic La Picota:
8. Cadaqués. I love Tramantua Hotel, a white-washed gem run by a husband and wife team… service is fantastic, and it’s right in the old city, plus near the beach:
7. Cáceres. We stayed at the budget but good Hotel Iberia Plaza Mayor with views of the square): If you want to stay IN the old city though, the Parador here is a 14th century palace - the full Caceres medieval dream!
6. Oviedo. Prices in Northern Spain are often cheaper, so you can happily get a great hotel here without spending a lot. Check out the excellent Barceló Oviedo Cervantes:
5. Zahara de los Atunes. Either go with Hotel Avenida Playa (simple, clean, and right off the beach - or the slightly more chic Hotel Doña Lola -
4. Las Alpujarras. Casa Rural la Fragua is a gorgeous little tucked away whitewashed apartment in Capileira (either stay here or in Pampaneira). This place is perfect for exploring the villages around the area.
3. El Rocío. I love Hotel La Malvasía with its old-world luxury, the fact it’s only 5-minutes walk from the famous Santa María del Rocío church and they also have a terrace which is perfect for sunsets.
2. Mejorada del Campo.
Bus info: (take the bus from Conde de Casal). Don’t spend the night there. It’s a day trip. But my favourite Madrid hotels are below (in descending price order):
Pestana Plaza Mayor (right on Plaza Mayor and with a pool) -
Gran Hotel Inglés -
The Pavilions -
Vincci The Mint -
7 Islas -
1. Cádiz. Right in the old town, I love the wonderful Hotel Boutique Convento Cádiz, housed in a renovated 17th century monastery:

Kings of Cannabis (Full Length Documentary)
Watch our new Weed Travel show, Blunt Reviews:
Check out other videos from Weediquette here:
You might not know who Arjan Roskam is, but you've probably smoked his weed. Arjan's been breeding some of the most famous marijuana strains in the world—like White Widow, Super Silver Haze, and many others—for over 20 years.
In 1992 he opened his first coffee shop in Amsterdam and has since crafted his marijuana-breeding skills into a market-savvy empire known as Green House Seed Company, which rakes in millions of dollars a year.
He's won 38 Cannabis Cups and has dubbed himself the King of Cannabis.
VICE joins Arjan and his crew of strain hunters in Colombia to look for three of the country's rarest types of weed, strains that have remained genetically pure for decades. In grower's terms, these are called landraces. We trudge up mountains and crisscross military checkpoints in the country's still-violent south, and then head north to the breathtaking Caribbean coast. As the dominoes of criminalization fall throughout the world, Arjan is positioned to be at the forefront of the legitimate international seed trade.

Mexican Street Food Tour in Mérida - HIDDEN GEMS Restaurants and Attractions in Yucatan, Mexico!
►SUBSCRIBE for 2 new videos per week:

Mérida, Yucatán, Mexico - Merida is an a beautiful, well organized, clean, and friendly city in Mexico, and the capital of the Yucatan State. We only had one full day in Merida on this trip, and so we wanted to make the most of it. I’m taking you on a one day Mexican street food and attractions tour of Merida!
Taqueria La Lupita - In the morning we first headed to a local market to eat breakfast. Taqueria La Lupita is a very cool breakfast spot where you can eat local Mexican Yucatan food. We tried some tacos de conchinta pibil, panuchos, relleno negro, and mondongo kabi. The panuchos were the winner.
Total price - 238 MXN ($12.64) for all
Maiz, Canela y Cilantro - It’s always good to have breakfast number 2, and this wasn’t a street food spot, but a nice cafe, and great for families. The reason I wanted to come here was to try their version of Huevos Motuleños, a Mexican egg dish originating from a small town of the same name not far away. It was a stunner.
Total price - 300 MXN ($15.94) for all
Plaza Grande and Horse Ride - Moving on to some of the sightseeing and attractions in Merida, we walked around Plaza Grande and took a horse ride to see some sights around the city. It was wonderful, to enjoy Merida from a horse carriage.
Mango - 15 MXN ($0.80) - One our way to the market, we stopped for a mango. Always delicious!
Mercado Lucas de Galvez - For lunch we headed to one of the main markets in the center of Merida called Mercado Lucas de Galvez. After walking around for a while we went upstairs and found a couple friendly aunties who cooked up a storm. We tried their, mole, relleno negro again, and sopa de Lima, which was the ultimate dish of the day for me.
Total price - 300 MXN ($15.94) for all
Restaurant y Cockteleria Tikinxic II - Finally for dinner I had really wanted to try a Mayan fish dish called tikin xic before leaving the Yucatan, so we searched out a Mexican seafood restaurant to try. It was a little outside of the center of the city, but it was pretty good.
Total price - 758 MXN ($40.27) for all
This was a fantastic day of Mexican street food in Merida. Merida is one of the most pleasant cities to explore in Mexico!

Philippines Food for a Cause - Aunty’s Secret CARROT RICE at Gawad Kalinga Village!
Gawad Kalinga Enchanted Farm:

This is the final video in this Philippines food travel video series!
We took a trip to Gawad Kalinga Enchanted Farm, which is an entire village where some of the most underprivileged families in the Philippines are given a chance to use their unique creativity to foster businesses and improve their lives.
Along with my friend Anton from Our Awesome Planet ( we drove about 1.5 outside of Manila, to the farm. It’s a beautiful place, with friendly people, and many projects around the farm.
They have a restaurant, using all local ingredients, most of which are from the farm, a university training students to be their own agricultural entrepreneurs, and dozens of other businesses on the farm. There are even a few beverages made from local ingredients which are being marketed and sold on the commercial market in the Philippines.
After walking around the village for a few minutes, we headed over to an Aunty’s house who is known throughout the village for her cooking. They cooked a number of dishes, including her famous carrot rice, chicken curry, and fried bangus milkfish. All the Filipino food was delicious, but I especially enjoyed the carrot rice and the vegetables which were all so incredibly fresh and simmered down with coconut milk.
Not only was it an amazing home-cooked Filipino food meal, but spending some time and meeting people at Gawad Kalinga Enchanted Farm, was the highlight.
