Yorkshire Coast UK Part 8 Port Mulgrave to Runswick Bay.
Walk part of the way from Port Mulgrave to Runswick Bay, also view a sunrise from the air at Runswick Bay.
Runswick Bay
On a day trip to the NE coast of England in early March, I first visited the scenic seaside village of Runswick Bay, just 9 miles north of Whitby. Tiny pedestrian lanes weave their way around the village, with its ancient thatched coastguard's cottage, single pub and tiny café
The lanes I walked up were VERY steep, hence the heavy breathing on the commentary...ok and I'm old, overweight and not very fit.
Runswick Bay
Runswick Bay is situated between Whitby and Staithes and has one of the steepest roads dropping down into the bay it feels like you're coming off the end of year as you drive over even worse walk down. The result is a one in three decline and only people with good strong legs should attempt to walk, but the good news is that there is a pay and display car park for the public at the bottom.

Runswick Bay Cottages Normanby Cottage
Normanby Cottage is the perfect example of a typical former fisherman's cottage; ideal as a romantic hideaway or just perfect as a seaside bolthole.
This cosy two bedroom cottage has a warming wood burning stove and retains much of its traditional charm and quirky features but with the benefit of all the modern facilities such as free wifi that you will require for your stay.
Positioned on one of the more secluded pathways in the main lower village of Runswick Bay, the cottage is quiet yet has the advantage of being only minutes from the main amenities and beach.
This property sleeps 4 in one master double bedroom which leads through to an attic bedroom with two single beds
Runswick Bay has the kind of beach that children dream of, with soft sand and rock pools galore.
It is easy to see how it continually earns its Quality Coast Award.

The Yorkshire Coast - Winter Arrives At Runswick And Robin Hoods Bay
My Website Shop -
After a long, warm and very dry autumn on The Yorkshire Coast, Winter finally arrived today with strong winds and heavy seas from The East.
Im not sure what others feel, but I believe that if we have to suffer winter, then it may as well be a bad one. Long boring calm days in Winter really do get me down. I would much rather see strong winds, rushing clouds, hail squalls and rough seas.
This video was shot today, 20th November 2018. I started the day at Runswick Bay where I enjoyed watching the tide coming in and disturbing all the birds feeding on the beach.
Around Mid Day I set off for robin Hoods Bay, calling in, en route, at Sandsend to catch up with my old Pal Mike Marshall of Yorkshire Coast Fossils.
Mike was too busy working to join me for the afternoon, but I'm sure he will be out with his camera soon enough.
By the time I got to Robin Hoods Bay the weather had taken a significant turn for the worst and the hail and rain driving in from the east really did not let up much at all.
A very difficult day for Photography. The light was really abysmal which meant you were never going to get any real great images today, howeverI did manage to capture this video which shows what sort of day its been here on The Yorkshire Coast.
A day to wrap up warm, take a walk on the beach at low tide and then head off home or to the pub to enjoy the warmth of a nice log fire.
