Ruoholahti - District of Helsinki (Finland)
This video is about Ruoholahti (Swedish: Gräsviken) is a quarter in Helsinki, part of the Länsisatama neighborhood and Kampinmalmi district. The name means Grass Bay and is pronounced [ˈruoholɑhti]. Ruoholahti is located in the southwestern part of the central city area of Helsinki, close to the Lauttasaari Island, and it functions as the principal connection between the Helsinki city center and the city of Espoo to the west. As of 2005 Ruoholahti is inhabited by approx. 3300 people. The Länsisatama port is also situated in Ruoholahti.
he Ruoholahti area was created in the 1910s by connecting several small islands with earth fill. Its purpose was to accommodate the above mentioned port. In the 1940s there also developed a small industrial district whose most notable buildings were the cable factory of Nokia (which later became a cultural centre when Nokia gave up cable manufacturing and moved on to telecommunications), the headquarters of the Finnish government-owned alcohol enterprise Alko (transformed in 2002 into the Ruoholahti shopping centre), and the legendary Lepakko or Lepakkoluola (Bat cave), an old warehouse building used in 1967-1979 as emergency accommodation for homeless alcoholics and then, from 1979 to 1999 as an independent centre of youth culture from 1979 to 1999 (it was demolished to make way for an office building). In the 1960s the Länsiväylä highway was built through Ruoholahti to connect Helsinki to southern Espoo.
A planning competition for the future of the area had been held in the middle 1980s. The area started changing significantly in 1991 when the construction of a new residential and office area began. The most striking of the office buildings was the High Tech Centre (HTC), designed by architect Kai Wartiainen and completed in 2001. The Helsinki Metro was extended to Ruoholahti in 1993. A short canal was built through the area to reinforce the image of a maritime district. Nokia returned to the area in 1999, when a new research center was opened, designed by architect Tuomo Siitonen.
As a part of the Kampinmalmi area and for its great location near the Helsinki city center, Ruoholahti is a vivid and easy area to live and work. There are a lot of parks and kindergartens, so the area is very popular for the families. Ruoholahti has its own school: Ruoholahden Ala-aste which is now facing a positive challenge to fulfill the needs of its expanding neighborhood Jätkäsaari. Jätkäsaari will get its own school in autumn 2007 - first, it will only serve first and second graders, but in 2019 there is a promise of Jätkäsaari primary and secondary school.

Helsinki Belediyesi'nden Halka Bisiklet Hizmeti - City bikes of Helsinki
What are city bikes?
City bikes are shared-use bicycles that can be borrowed for a fee by anyone in central Helsinki. Your chosen season pass (day, week, whole season) covers up to 30 minutes of bike use per time. For an extra charge, you can use a bike for a maximum of five hours at a time. After the ride, the bike is returned to a bike station.
In summer 2016, there are 500 bikes in 50 locations around the city. The bikes are available at bike stations around the city center between Ruoholahti, Taka-Töölö and Sörnäinen. The bike stations are located at approximately 300-meter intervals. The area will be expanded in summer 2017 and more bikes will be added. The goal is for there to be 1,500 bikes and 150 bike stations by that time, within an area extending from the heart of the city to Munkkiniemi, Pasila and Kumpula.
The easiest way to take advantage of the city bike scheme is to register. Once you have registered, you can pick up a bike whenever you need one. In order to make the use of city bikes easy also for visitors, city bikes can be borrowed using a payment card, without registration, from the following bike stations: Kaivopuisto, Unioninkatu, Rautatientori/East, Kiasma and Hakaniemi Metro Station. With a payment card, you can borrow bikes for 1-4 persons at a time.
A one day pass also includes a maximum of 30 minutes of continuous bike use at a time. During the day, you can use a bike for up to 30 minutes at a time several times. If you use a city bike for more than 30 minutes at a time, you will be charged a small extra fee.

Helsinki ship cruise, Finland
Helsinki cruise - from Helsinki harbour and bay, whit ship to Suomenlinna
South Harbour (Finnish: Eteläsatama, Swedish: Södra hamnen) is a bay and harbour area immediately next to the centre of the city of Helsinki, Finland. It is the largest passenger harbour in Finland, and 5.4 million passengers travel through it every year. The most of the harbour's traffic is to Stockholm, Sweden and Tallinn, Estonia, and cruises. In summertime, there is also much small ship traffic.
At the Market Square shore is Keisarinluodonlaituri (Kejsargrundskajen), named after an islet that the ship carrying emperor Nicholas I of Russia collided with in 1833. Nowadays the islet lies under filling ground brought to the shore. The pier is used mostly by the commuter ship to Suomenlinna.
Ruoholahdenpuisto, Ruoholahti Park Helsinki 360° STOCK VIDEO
Ruoholahti Park is a modern urban green area that has been built to a high standard. The changes in the materials that have been use are clearly delineated. The plants have been elevated from the pedestrian path by kerbstones and low walls. At the centre of the canal is an event space with curving steps, two pedestrian bridges and a quay along the southern side.
The park is the most active part along the northern side. The needs of the local daycare centres and primary school were taken into consideration in the design of the park. A small playing field is situated on the street side and a playground on the canal side. The pedestrian and cycle path crosses through the park and by the playground.
The area between the main path and the canal is an area for relaxation featuring perennial plants and shrubs that blossom in different seasons. The pedestrian path along the canal opens up by the flower garden into an event space with curving steps.
The small playing field is half a metre lower than the surrounding pedestrian paths. The playing field is lined by a concrete wall that is also used for plants and surrounded by trees and shrubs.
The fenced playground is used very actively by two local daycare centres that lack their own gardens. Although there is little playground equipment, children still have fun playing in the open area, the two large sandboxes and the two artificial hills with slides.
Along the southern edge of the playground is a pergola that has a roof in one section to provide protection against the rain. Vines grow along the gratings and handrails along the pergola. Maples grow along the street.
This sculpture in the park is named after a Finnish nursery rhyme about a cat climbing up a ladder and was designed by Pekka Nevalainen (1951–). In the piece, a strong grey cat has climbed a ladder to reach the top of a large red letter A. The artist has used several materials: the letter A is painted steel, the cat is made of grey fibreglass, the ladder of stainless steel and the base is poured concrete. The work was financed from the adjacent arts and skills-oriented primary school’s appropriations and was finished for the opening of the school in 1996.
