Sochi Olympic Winter games Gorki Gorod OFFSTAGE 0032
My life journey / 0032 / 160930:
This is an OFF STAGE STORY in pictures of Gorky Gorod from March 2013 to February 2014.
During 2013 -when the construction project schedule became tight - up to 15.000 workers were employed to work almost non stop (7/24) in order to get the huge project ready on time for the Olympic Winter games.
Any other second construction material was driven up on the only existing road from Sochi harbor to the mountain cluster by thousands of trucks day and night causing huge traffic jams almost at any time of the day and heavy accidents as well.
FINE Hotels & Resorts - master-operator of multi-branded Gorky Gorod resort started with its first employees in March 2013 in order to grow the staff to almost 3000 employees to serve the village and several Olympic venues like the Sanki Sliding Center, the Gorki Jumping Center and the Media Center, during the games in 2014.
A huge logistical challenge had to be solved to accommodate and transport all this employees back and forth at different working shifts and living locations...
Gorky Gorod is a brand new destination that was build near the mountain village Krasnaya Polyana, to accommodate more than 5,000 international Press members during the Winter Olympic Games 2014. Total number of rooms available are around 3400, consisting out of 1500 apartments operated as hotels, a Marriott Hotel, 4 non-branded Interstate Hotels, a Swissotel, a Capella Hotel, a Solis Hotel, a Rixos Hotel, 2 large destination Spas, a shopping center with Rooftop Aquapark, a Media and Congress Center.
Krasnaya Polyana is sited against the scenic backdrop of the Caucasus Mountains, which exceed 2,000 meters (6,600 ft) in elevation, at a distance of 67 kilometers from the center of Sochi by road and 40 kilometers from the Adler-Sochi International Airport. The settlement has been plagued by transport problems: in order to improve this for the 2014 Winter Olympics, a railway line was built, connecting the area with the airport, Sochi Olympic Village, and central Sochi.
The newly-built mountain venues was home to all the skiing and sliding sports during Sochi 2014:
Rosa Khutor Extreme Park, Rosa Khutor Alpine Center, The Sanki Sliding Center, RusSki Gorki Jumping Center.
Beside that, the Gorki Media Center located at an altitude of 540 m above sea level was also build as part of Gorky Gorod. The Media Center was set to receive around 4,000 television and radio broadcasters and 500 media representatives from around the world at the highlight of the Games time. The Gorki Media Center with a total area of more than 30,000 sq. m. includes the Mountain Broadcasting Center and Gorki Press Center, and comprises everything for comfortable and effective work of journalists and broadcasters.
