Kororareka Bush Walk (Russell, New Zealand)
From Russell you can walk up to the Flagstaff Monument by the road and eventually you will see a sign post (on the left) that takes you through the bush. If you take care, you can't get lost. The path eventually takes a left (back to the beach) or right (to the flagstaff monument via a housing area).

Russell, former 'hellhole of the Pacific' - Roadside Stories
Today a picturesque tourist town, Russell was once a lawless settlement dubbed the 'hellhole of the Pacific'. Then called Kororāreka, it was the site of the flagpole famously cut down four times by Ngāpuhi chief Hōne Heke, sparking the Northern War of the mid-1840s.

ADVENTURE TIME | Russell, NZ
In the very top of the North Island of New Zealand lies a small town called Russell in the Bay of Islands. Made a wee video to document the adventures I had there.
Music by Tyrone Caveney
Busy Kiwi!
Watch this big female kiwi struggling to shift a tree branch to hide her nest. She's the mum of Kiri the kiwi chick and it looks like she's still keen on this nest box. The kiwi breeding season is coming up so stay tuned for updates. And don't forget you can book a Night Walk on our website: russellnaturewalks.co.nz
Weka Chicks
These baby Weka are very cute! Like Kiwi, the North Island Weka is a rare species and Russell is one of only a very few places where they can be seen in the wild.
12 day old Baby Kiwi
The Kiwi chick at Russell Nature Walks is 12 days old. She/he is growing and getting stronger. Many kiwi chicks leave the nest at this age but she seems quite comfortable staying with Dad.
