There are plenty of local markets for your to explore when you’re in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, but one of the relaxed markets, that quite small and friendly, is Tuol Tom Poung Market, also commonly known as Russian Market. The market is local, small, and manageable, and it’s a great place to get a taste of Phnom Penh and try some delicious local food.
It was a rainy afternoon on the day I went to Russian Market, and we first stopped outside the market to eat some crepe like snacks, filled with creme and coconut. It’s one of those Cambodian street food snacks that so much fun to watch being made. Price - 500 KHR ($0.12) per piece
Most of the street food stalls are open in the morning and for lunch, so I was there a little late, but there were still a few stalls open. We had some fried spring rolls and fresh summer rolls as well as an amazing green papaya, herb filled salad, which was delicious. The best thing was the salad, and the environment of eating at Russian Market is always fun as well. Total price - $6 USD total (you can use US$ in Cambodia).
Finally, one of the top reasons I wanted to eat at Russian Market was for the seafood restaurant at night, which sets up in the motorbike parking lot at about 6 pm each evening. We ordered a fish cooked in foil, clams, and oysters, all cooked over an extremely hot charcoal fire. The food was overall good, and I liked the atmosphere a lot. Total price for seafood - 39,000 KHR ($9.40).
When you’re in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Russian Market is a fantastic place to eat!

Russian Market Travel Views | Shopping in Phnom Penh | Cambodia | Asian Travel
Shopping frenzy at Russian Market, Phnom Penh’s large discount retail area. Countless stalls, small shops, and food outlets will make you dizzy as you browse through cotton and silk clothing items, multicolored trinkets, or handicrafts suspended from the ceiling. A variety of fresh seafood, produce and spices, and a wide selection of motorbike spare parts offer something for anyone’s taste. Referred to as Russian by foreigners because of the dominance of Soviets here in the 1980s, the market has since evolved into a truly global retail outlet.

WORM LIKE NOODLES: INTERESTING CAMBODIAN NOODLES AT RUSSIAN MARKET | Phnom Penh, Cambodia
The Russian Market, located in the south part of Phnom Penh is a popular market among tourists, expats and even locals. Despite the cramp and steamy surroundings, this market is always packed with eager shoppers as it has an array of cheap goodies to scoop up. A great place to shop for clothing, souvenirs and even fresh produce.
Known to locals as Phsar Toul Tom Poung. The reason it is called Russian Market is because it was a popular among the Soviets during the 1980s when most of the western expats in Phnom Penh were Russian.
Like all markets I visit, the Russian Market also has an endless supply of food! My first stop was the Pan Fried Rice Noodles with Beef & Chinese Broccoli. Worm-like rice noodles are pan fired together with beef, chives, bean sprouts and Chinese broccoli, all topped with an over-easy egg. This particular dish tasted just as good as it looked and smelt. The sweet beefy flavor from the beef really shows how fresh the meat actually is. The vegetables were all on par with freshness and it was so crispy and full of flavor. This dish is something my mom use to make, and this particular dish did not disappoint.
After that delicious bowl of noodles, I had somewhat of a sweet tooth, so I was on the look out for some desserts. The coconut desserts were small but completely flavorful. This little white dough balls wrapped in hard sugar and topped with coconut shavings, had a sweet nectar-like taste. The white dough and coconut really balanced out the sugar, making it not too overwhelming.
Next up was the Crepe Wrapped with Sticky Rice. This interesting treat was bursting with ingredients of all kinds. Wrapped with sticky rice and sprinkled with sugar, sesame seeds and coconut shavings, this chewy little wrap could be compared to a sweet sandwich. The crunch from the sugars definitely gave it an interesting texture, but the overwhelming sesame seed flavor has taken over most other ingredients.
I highly recommend visiting the Russian Market if you get a chance. It is located in the south part of Phnom Penh, so there are many ways to get here. Taxi, tuk tuk, motorbike or Grab App is always a good option.

BEST MARKETS IN CAMBODIA! Food & Shopping.
With our second full day in Phnom Penh on our Cambodia Trip in South East Asia, Katie and I decided to find the best markets in the city to buy all of our last souvenirs before we headed off for Saigon and then Bali! and also try some Cambodian street food!
We found some incredible markets in the Russian Market and Central Market. Check it out, you can find EVERYTHING you're looking for here! (but Mark still preferred the Siem Reap market).
Phnom Penh travel is quite the change from Siem Reap or Angkor Wat, but a must stop to learn about the genocide of Cambodia and rich history!
Next, off to Saigon!

Shopping in Phnom Penh
Today we went out and about to hunt for some new headphones after the ones i brought over with me broke. We checked out stores for Audio Technica and Bose. Prices were super expensive compared to what you would pay in Australia and the USA.
Of course, there was always some mildly interesting things to see along the way including some great shop names!
*SORRY FOR THE SHAKY FOOTAGE* The GoPro decided to turn the stabilizer off today so we have a couple of shaky vlogs.
