Subscribe to Vesti News
Today, Russia and Turkmenistan became strategic partners. The respective agreement was signed by the Presidents of the two states. Vladimir Putin arrived in Ashgabat on an official visit. There are almost no disagreements on international issues between the two countries. The main topic of the talks is cooperation, first of all, economic. The Turkmen authorities are now waiting for large Russian companies to appear on the market.

24 HOURS WITH REMOTE SIBERIAN TRIBE in Buryatia, Russia
We've finally made it to Siberia on the Trans-Siberian Railway!
Our first adventure was arriving in Ulan-Ude, near Lake Baikal, and driving hundreds of kilometres into the wilderness to meet a remote Siberian tribe in Buryatia, Russia.
Buryatia is one of Russia's most unique republics. It has a mongol heritage, and the people who live here are descendants of the Golden Horde. The landscape is called The Steppe, a vast sweeping grassland that covers central Asia. Tribes who live here have traditionally been nomadic, making small camps like the one we stay in. This is our documentary of 24 hours with this tribe.
This experience put us outside our comfort zones. We ate some interesting Russian food like raw sheep liver, rode horses, wrestled, and had the time of our lives. While this experience isn't for everyone, it's definitely for me. This was one of my favourite days on the Trans-Siberian Railway. The people we met in this small village made it especially memorable. You can tell by their faces, that they are kind and generous. We felt right at home in this remote part of Russia.

WE FOUND AN ABANDONED SOVIET MILITARY BARRACKS IN RUSSIA
In this Episode of our Adventure along the Trans-Siberian Railway in Russia, we arrive in Vladivostok in Primorsky Krai after 80 hours on the train from Ulan-Ude, and head out into the deep green wilderness.
Here, we meet some friends and explore Russia's beautiful landscape. While doing so, we encountered an abandoned military barracks. I had heard a lot about the abandoned Soviet Military Bases in eastern Europe, and even went urban exploring a military bunker once, but nothing like this.
After we returned to the camp, and caught fresh seafood with our hands, made a pasta, and drank around a campfire. The perfect day.

2017.10.01. Video sketches from the Russian Bazaar, video by Yuri Gripas
[Wikipedia] Religion in Turkmenistan
The Turkmen of Turkmenistan, like their kin in Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, and Iran are Muslims. According to the CIA World Factbook, Turkmenistan is 89% Muslim and 10% Eastern Orthodox. Most ethnic Russians are Orthodox Christians. The remaining 1% is unknown. A 2009 Pew Research Center report indicates a higher percentage of Muslims with 93.1% of Turkmenistan's population adhering to Islam.
The great majority of Turkmen readily identify themselves as Muslims and acknowledge Islam as an integral part of their cultural heritage. However, there are some who only support a revival of the religion's status merely as an element of national revival.

TURKMENISTAN - WikiVidi Documentary
Turkmenistan , formerly known as Turkmenia, is a country in Central Asia, bordered by Kazakhstan to the northwest, Uzbekistan to the north and east, Afghanistan to the southeast, Iran to the south and southwest, and the Caspian Sea to the west. Turkmenistan has been at the crossroads of civilizations for centuries. In medieval times, Merv was one of the great cities of the Islamic world and an important stop on the Silk Road, a caravan route used for trade with China until the mid-15th century. Annexed by the Russian Empire in 1881, Turkmenistan later figured prominently in the anti-Bolshevik movement in Central Asia. In 1925, Turkmenistan became a constituent republic of the Soviet Union, Turkmen Soviet Socialist Republic ; it became independent upon the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991. Turkmenistan possesses the world's fourth largest reserves of natural gas resources. Most of the country is covered by the Karakum Desert. Since 1993, citizens have been receiving government...

Becoming a Russian Walrus in KAZAN | Trans-Siberian Railway
In this episode of our Russia travel vlog series riding the Trans Siberian Railway, we arrive in the Capital of Tartarstan, Kazan!
scuba
On this leg of our great trip across Russia, we stop at The Blue Lake, a freezing pit of freshwater. Here, we learn about the famous Russian Walrus, or морж. These legendary beasts are brave men (or women) who polar dip in freezing water. While there is no snow this time of year, this lake is fed from ground water deep in the earth, and is a constant 5C.
After unthawing, we explore Kazan, and try traditional Tartarstan cuisine. This includes Chak-Chak, a famous dessert (so famous that there is a museum... we went.)
We end the day at the Kazan Kremlin, a beautiful complex featuring one of the nicest mosques I've ever seen.

Successfull Soviet Train Adventure 2010
September 28, 2010
Three weeks, twelve nations -- the most exciting active tour of the summer
Largest Soviet Train Tour of SMS Frankfurt through Russia to Mongolia and China completed
Frankfurt, August 20th 2010 -- From June twelve to 30th almost 100 adventure and sports enthusiasts from twelve countries were on their way by train, by foot, bus and ferry - at the Russian Soviet Train Tour 2010. This summer offer included among other things a boat party on the Moscow River, cross country running along the Eurasian border, a bath in icy Lake Baikal and a stay in exclusive Mongolian yurts. It was the largest organized cultural, sports and event tour of SMS Frankfurt.
Start for all participants, coming from Australia, Barbados, China, Germany, Great Britain, Ireland, Canada, the USA and more countries, was Moscow -- on 20th anniversary of Russia's independence. With a boat party on the Moskva River the organizers rang a unique, challenging and inspiring journey for the international participants. At the first stage they took the Trans-Siberian railway via Kazan to Yekaterinburg and the border of Eurasia. Sightseeing and cross-country races were program at each station. Fun and sport mated the euphoric participants from all over the world, also at a picnic in the Eurasian border, when half of the group at the European, the other half on Asian terrain drank on each ones health.
Irkutsk was the next exciting stop on the Soviet Train Tour. From here the international travelers took a two-day break after the journey along the historic Trans-Sib route on Lake Baikal. Hardly any of the participants went swimming in seven degrees cold lake, which is known as a rejuvenating spa. A ferry brought the group to the island of Olkhon for another cross-country run and accommodation in traditional wooden huts and with folklore in the evening.
Back to Irkutsk they continued with the train to Mongolia which was a pure cultural experience: unspoiled nature, adventurous cinematic scenes in public trains, cross-country races in a remote monastery and shaman fire dance in the exclusive hotel Mongolia with rooms as Mongolian yurts.
„The journey was emotionally and physically was the best ever wrote a participant from Australia to the organizer Jürgen Schreiter from SMS Frankfurt after her return „You helped make it a trip of a lifetime for me said another participant and the Soviet Train was an exciting, enjoyable and memorable holiday/adventure. It was everything and more than what we were expecting....
The final stage was Mongolia to China. The cosmopolitan group was not only in the Gobi desert, they also took fascinating pictures of the Hanging Monastery in Datong and the surrounding caves. The farewell, after a walk on the Great Wall, was not easy after three weeks. Some enthusiasts of the Soviet Style Train Tour 2010, already planned a revival meeting after their return home where they will surely talk a lot about this tour.

Turkmenistan ( (listen) or (listen); Turkmen: Türkmenistan, pronounced [tyɾkmeniˈθtɑn]), formerly known as Turkmenia, officially the Republic of Turkmenistan is a country in Central Asia, bordered by Kazakhstan to the northwest, Uzbekistan to the north and east, Afghanistan to the southeast, Iran to the south and southwest, and the Caspian Sea to the west. Ashgabat is the capital and largest city. The population of the country is 5.6 million, the lowest of the Central Asian republics.
Turkmenistan has been at the crossroads of civilizations for centuries. In medieval times, Merv was one of the great cities of the Islamic world and an important stop on the Silk Road, a caravan route used for trade with China until the mid-15th century. Most of the country is covered by the Karakum (Black Sand) Desert. From 1993 to 2017, citizens received government-provided electricity, water and natural gas free of charge. The sovereign state of Turkmenistan was ruled by President for Life Saparmurat Niyazov (also known as Turkmenbashi) until his death in 2006. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow was elected president in 2007. According to Human Rights Watch, Turkmenistan remains one of the world’s most repressive countries. The country is virtually closed to independent scrutiny, media and religious freedoms are subject to draconian restrictions, and human rights defenders and other activists face the constant threat of government reprisal. One of the main Kazakh clothing is the shapan or chapan — a spacious long dressing gown. These robes are not as gender specific as other clothes, and both men and women commonly wear them. Shapan is sewn from various fabrics and colors although most often in the main monochrome or dark colors.
Known for its autocratic government and large gas reserves, Turkmenistan also has a reputation as an island of stability in restive Central Asia. Despite its gas wealth, much of Turkmenistan's population is still impoverished.
Armenians, Azeris, and other ethnic groups comprise the remaining 5.1 percent. The majority religion is Sunni Muslim, and Russian Orthodox Christians constitute the largest religious minority. The level of active religious observance is unknown. Since independence there has been a tightly controlled revival of Islam.
Beef, camel meat and goat meat are served in some places. Fish and caviar from the Caspian Sea are available. Turkmen have traditionally eaten great discs of whole-wheat bread cooked fresh every day. ... The most popular dish in Turkmenistan is pilav, better known as pilaf, or in Russian, pliao.
Many Turkmen women still wear the traditional long satiny Turkmen dress. Turkmen women have traditionally worn loose, heavy, brilliantly-colored, ankle-length silk or velvet caftans with baggy trousers underneath with contrasting colors and decorated bands.

May 29, 2012 Turkmenistan_Medvedev meets Belarusian premier over economic issues
Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev held talks on Tuesday with his Belarusian counterpart Mikhail Myasnikovich.
The discussions took place in the capital of Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, as the two will be joined there by other heads of government on Wednesday, for a meeting of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
Medvedev was positive about the trade turnover between the two countries, which is close to $40 billion a year and said this is a result of the creation of the Customs Union.
The Belarusian prime minister confirmed his intention to take part in a meeting of the government heads of the Customs Union member states, which is scheduled to take place in St Petersburg on June 15.
The Customs Union between Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Russia came into existence at the start of 2010, aiming to create a single market to boost trade and investment between its members.
Both Medvedev and Myasnikovich agreed that Russian President Vladimir Putin's plan to pay his first foreign visit since stepping into the president's shoes, to Belarus as very important for bilateral relations.

2015 CIS Summit held in Kazakhstan
About 7,000 people from Russia and other former Soviet states are fighting for the Islamic State (IS) in the Middle East, said Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday at the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) summit in Burabay, Kazakhstan.
Putin warned that without precautionary measures, the violence of terrorist groups could spread to CIS member states. He called for collaborative efforts to counter international terrorism and to prevent the extremists' entry into Central Asia.
He said that the Russian operation of combating terrorists in Syria was carried out at the official invitation of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and thus was in line with international law.
The CIS member states of Russia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Moldova and Turkmenistan agreed during the meeting to set up a joint unit supported by frontier defense authorities to prepare for any possible border security crisis.
The next CIS summit is due to be held in September 2016 in Kyrgyzstan.
