Slopes in Hakuba Happo one - Nagano prefecture - Japan
Hakuba is a ski resort town in the northern Japan Alps. As the surrounding valley has an annual snow fall of over 11.1 meters, it is the central hub for 10 ski resorts with more than 200 runs. The village was the main event venue for 1998 Winter Olympics (Alpine, Ski Jump, Crosscountry).
Hakuba consists of seven main ski areas. At the southern end of the Hakuba Valley are the resorts of Hakuba 47, Goryu, and the Olympic ski resort Happo-One (pronounced O-ney). To the north are Iwatake, Tsugaike, Norikura, and Cortina resorts.

Day 5 at Noboribetsu!
Such an AMAZING experience. We've never stayed at a Japanese style tatami room and had Japanese fine dining in our LIVES! It was pricey and we could only stay a night...but it was worth it. Food was amazing, the onsen / hot spring was soooo relaxing....After this , we want to experience this during winter and when it is snowing! (snow - something that Ray and I have not seen before too!)

0:08 – Day 1: Noboribetsu Date Jidaimura (history theme park highlighting life in Edo Period). Jigokudani (Hell’s Valley). Accomodation in Noboribetsu Dai-ichi Takimotokan. Explore main street of town of Noboribetsu Onsen. Comedic ninja demonstration. Ninja Maze.
1:58 – Day 2: Shiraoi Ainu Village and Museum. Noboribetsu Bear Park. Lake Toya Scenic View. Accomodation in Toya Sun Palace (facing Lake Toya). Hokkaido brown bear (higuma) that the Ainu people used to hunt. Lake Poroto had frozen over. Lake Toya (volcanic crater lake measuring 10 km) is the northern-most lake in Japan that NEVER freezes over.
4:42 – Day 3: Snow World Toya. Ride of snow mobile. Snow trekking, rafting and tubing at Rusutsu Resort. Ride banana boat in the snow. Experience lunch BBQ in the snow. Fukidashi Park (drink melted spring water from Mount Yotei). Mt Yotei looks exactly like Mt Fuji as both are active stratovolcanoes that have the characteristic conical shape. Accomodation at Rusutsu Resort Hotel.
8:11 – Day 4: Otaru Canal. Otaru Seaport Market. Otaru Music Box Museum. Otaru Glass Pen. LeTao cheesecake. Shiroi Koibito Park (where the Ishiya Chocholate is made). Sapporo Clock Tower. Sapporo White Illumination. Susukino. Accomodation at Renaissance Hotel.
9:42 – Day 5: Shop and eat. The beauty of Hokkaido is simply beyond compare!
5 Things to do in Furano! plus a couple others
We drove the perilous journey to the center of Hokkaido to reach the farthest North we have been in Japan. Furano was a great town with lots to do in just 2 days. We crammed in as much as we could, let us know if we missed anything!
