Rutherford Hill 2011 Barrel Select Red Blend, Napa Valley
Right now this 5 year old is soft as silk and seductively complex. The pedigree alone should put this in the super premium price category but lucky for all of us, it's a healthy cut below that and an amazing value.

In stores that they don't have a tasting it's very hard, if you did not taste those wines. It is more luck than anything else. In many cases the label decides. So the label is very important.

The Europeans have been much more rigorous about protecting not only the name and the place but also the specific product. In the case of the American system they want to protect the place but they want to have the freedom to make whatever they like.

The next probable fight that it is going to come is whether if Napa wants to sign on for EU type protections, does that eventually mean that the name protection, the appellations that are provided in the US aren't going to be strict enough that they are going to start regulating the types of wines that you can make. That's probably never going to happen.

Honig : California Wine with Tony
Honig Vineyard & Winery, located in Napa's Rutherford District, was started in 1964 when Louis Honig purchased 68 acres of land. The vineyard originally sold its grapes to other wineries in Napa, but transformed itself into a winery in 1981 with its initial shipment of several hundred cases of Louis Honig Sauvignon Blanc.
In 1984, Louis's grandson, Michael Honig, took over the management. Honig Vineyard & Winery now ships its Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon made from organically grown grapes not only in the United States but also around the world.
California Wildfires To Drive Up Price of This Beloved Beverage
California vineyards have been forced to throw away tons of grapes--and that may lead to price hikes on wine. That's because the grapes became unusable following wildfires that swept through the state last summer. Jose Enriquez of Rutherford Hill Winery has worked at wineries in Napa and Sonoma counties for the past 20-plus years. He admitted that prices likely will go up slightly this year as a result. Enriquez told The Guardian, “The smoke was the main concern, because wine is not supposed to have a smoky flavor to it. That is not good news for California’s wine industry. It produces around 90% of all wine sold in the United States, and had sales that topped $24bn in 2014.

Democrats Sparred Over a Wine Cave Fund-Raiser. Its Billionaire Owner Isn't Pleased. It's just not fair, said the owner of the wine cave, who with his wife has donated millions to Democrats since the 1980s. RUTHERFORD, Calif. - To reach the wine cave that set off a firestorm in this week's Democratic presidential debate, visitors must navigate a hillside shrouded in mossy oak trees and walk down a brick-and-limestone hallway lined with wine barrels. Inside the room, a strikingly long table made of wood and onyx sits below a raindrop chandelier with 1,500 Swarovski crystals. The furnishings drew the ire of Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts on Thursday, when she chastised Pete Buttigieg for holding a recent fund-raiser in a wine cave full of crystals where she said guests were served $900 bottles of wine. Billionaires in wine caves should not pick the next president of the United States, she said. Andrew Yang, a former tech executive, added that candidates should not have to shake the money tree in the wine cave.On Friday, the billionaire couple who owns the wine cave - wine is often stored underground because of the cool, stable temperatures - said they were frustrated that their property had set off one of the fiercest back-and-forths of the debate. Watching the contentious moment on television, they grew frustrated as Ms. Warren and other candidates used their winery as a symbol of opulence and the wealthy's influence on politics.I'm just a pawn here, said Craig Hall, who owns Hall Wines, which is known for its cabernet sauvignon, with his wife, Kathryn Walt Hall. They're making me out to be something that's not true. And they picked the wrong pawn. It's just not fair.Mr. Hall said he had not settled on a favorite Democratic candidate, but that Mr.
