Great Vic Bike Ride - Beechworth & Rutherglen
There’s simply too much to see and do around Beechworth, so instead of proceeding to a new town straight away, the second ride day of this year’s Great Vic Bike Ride will be a loop to Milawa and back.
You’ll roll past the Beechworth prison in the morning, one of the towns more historic sites, and then the less historic but almost equally as known Bridge Road Brewery.
With mountains, trees and vineyards all around you on today’s ride, you will feel quite in touch with nature, and be excited to try the local gourmet delights waiting at Milawa.
Rutherglen will be the host of this year's rest day and what better location to rest the legs with an abundance of local wineries and restaurants.
Wangaratta, Rutherglen, Bikeworx, Yackandandah, Beechworth Motorcycle ride
This weekend we left Wangaratta bound for Parkers Pies situated in Rutherglen in the heart of Victoria's oldest wine region, before we dropped into the nearby Jones Winery for a tasting session. Then we headed north to see Colin at Bikeworx in Lavington before heading to Bottom Pub at Yackandandah where our old FXR clocked over 100,000 kilometres and finally on to Beechworth to take some photos of Rod's Nightrain in front of the old Beechworth Goal. Overall this ride was 228km and a great way to spend an afternoon.

River Graze 2019
The Southbank of the Yarra River was transformed into a food and wine lover's playground from 22nd to 24th March as part of this years Melbourne Food and Wine Festival, presented by Bank of Melbourne.
With more than 60 great Victorian producers and winemakers, food trucks and stallholders made merry for River Graze, from The Arts Centre to Crown Riverwalk.
Throughout the three days, popular musicians, DJs and buskers showcased Melbourne's music scene and lively street culture.
We grazed along the river near the Arts Centre where Victorian produce and lifestyle vendors filled the Southbank promenade with colourful market stands. With five Southgate restaurants hit the pavement at River Graze for Southgate's Boardwalk Bites. Damon Bradley, Pure South Kitchen, Bluetrain, ENA Greek Street Food and Waterfront Southgate put a street-food spin on their menus with every dish served in a box, in a cone, in a bun or on a stick.
Melbourne's best food trucks descended on Southbank Promenade at the Food Truck Stop where they served up flavours from across the globe.
At Stephanie Alexander's Kitchen Garden presented by the Herald Sun, we explored the seasonal garden built by the Little Veggie Patch. Stephanie Alexander and Maggie Beer helped out in the garden with the kids getting their hands dirty in the free workshops letting the parents sit back and relax with the Herald Sun and coffee from Lavazza by the new D.O.C Southbank.
This year, City Cellar was bigger and better than ever. With the purchase of a $15 Festival tasting cup, we tasted wines from more than 20 Victorian wineries including: BDR Vintage, Brown Brothers, Buller Wines, Rutherglen Estates and many more.
After tasting our way around Victoria, we purchased wines by the glass or bottle and satisfied our cravings with platters, cannoli and more from That’s Amore Cheese.
Some other awesome features of River Graze 2019:
• Left Bank Restaurant teamed up with Oakridge Wines to host a charity grape-stomping in aid of the Plate up Project.
• Exclusive toasties were available from Cheese & Bread featuring chutney from Barker’s New Zealand
• A whisky masterclass provided by Starward Whisky a& Cocktail Lawn
• Stomping Ground Brewery debuted their new ‘Island Time’ South Pacific Ale brewed exclusively for Melbourne Food and Wine festival by all-female team of brewers in collaboration with Pink Boots Society

Wine Week 174: Bobbie, Alex and Mr X
The first wine of the week is the Campbells Bobbie Burns Shiraz. It's a great table wine from Rutherglen, a region probably better known for its brilliant fortified wines. Danny, a massive Rutherglen fan himself, follows up with another of his personal favourites - Coonawarra Cabernet. This week he talks about a single vineyard wine from Wynns. The Alex 88 might be getting a new name from the next vintage, but grab this one while you can. To end the weeb Brad checks out a Riesling from Western Australia's Great Southern. The Xabregas Show Reserve Riesling is perfect if your looking for something that will handle a bit of cellar time.

Bridge Road Brewery Ride, Beechworth
Early one Saturday, Rod, Clair and Salina told us about a few little breweries off the beaten track in Northeast Victoria not far from Wangaratta. Needless to say with the promise of a great lunch and the chance to sample a few ales we eagerly climbed on our bikes and headed east out Wangarratta towards our destination the historic town Beechworth, that's home to the Bridge Road Brewery. The route affords some great riding though undulating farmland, with plenty of bends to keep the ride interesting. This time of year countryside is vibrant with the blossoms blooming and rich green fields.

Wine Tasting 56: 2002 Thorn Clarke Shotfire Shiraz from Aust
I tasted both the 2002 and 2003 T & C Shotfire Quartage (Reference Episode 6 & 9) before with you so I decided to taste the shiraz here. This wine was big and complex and I needed some time to air the wine to wake it up. Like the Quartage, this upfront Aussie new world wine came with cassis, black plum liqueur, cola, dry violet and a herbal eucalyptus nose. The wine was dense but the tannin was surprisingly round. More of the above with Maynard black wine gum, black licorice and secondary tastes such as spice, dark chocolate and dark soya sauce followed. I thought the Quartage I tasted was more complex but less brute but this is hot climate Aussie style so it is! I suggest further aging needed. (Rating 90-92 points) by Michael Lam of the Beverage Review.
