We were fortunate at Ryedale Folk Museum that both the Beadlam Tractor Run and the Tour De Yorkshire passed through Hutton-le-Hole. There was a decent crowd watching, Richard was in the best place at the Museum's Forge making a very good fireplace set.

Today was one hot, sunny day, so we decided to go to our local museum. For the low price of £7.95, it is definitely worth a trip. We spent about 2 hours wandering round what I liked to call a mini Beamish, followed by a quick stop off at Kirkbymoorside.

Barmoor and The Nab near Hutton-le-Hole
This is low moorland on the southern edge of the North York Moors proper.
The escarpment to the south is a striking geological feature formed by an overlying layer of limestone, and marks the boundary of fertile farmland extending south through Ryedale towards The Wolds.
It runs some 40 miles from Sutton Bank to the coast near Scarborough.
The hillside mid-distance has a very striking Hollow Way (ancient track) on its flank.
The last sequence shows the ancient trackway(s) heading north, they cross the modern road further up.
It's interesting it was a 'dual carriageway' (!) to avoid problems passing oncoming horse drawn traffic.
On the promontory are three Tumuli - just visible in video.
The area below it is curiously muddled and rather wet, mainly dominated by bracken and a few birch trees.
You can see remains of enclosures and possibly peat digging.

NORTH YORK MOORS WALK FEATURING HUTTON-LE-HOLE AND LASTINGHAM
Hollow of Hutton”
Filmed 4th October 2016
Running time: 20 minutes
Hutton-le-Hole in the North York Moors is one of the prettiest villages I have ever had the pleasure of visiting. I explore this wonderful location then enjoy a walk to the nearby village of Lastingham with a superb local inn, which turns out to be my favourite pub I have so far visited in the North York Moors…..
Filmed in the North York Moors in the county of North Yorkshire. Locations include Hutton-le-Hole, Lastingham and Spaunton.
Written, researched, directed, camera and sound, edited and music by Patrick Leach.
Any other names credited in this film, i.e. Bob Morgan and Martin Roy, are pseudonyms, which I used at the time of making this film. However, I no longer use these pseudonyms as I want viewers to be clear that my films are completely my own work.

Community Payback at Ryedale Folk Museum.mov
Community Payback has been a sentence of the courts for over 30 years, under various names. As well as providing a tough form of punishment for offenders, it is a constructive form of payback for communities.
Now experience and see for yourself the great work of York and North Yorkshire Probation Trust's Community Payback team, in action at Ryedale Folk Museum - Yorkshire's leading open air museum.
