Onna-Eisa First Performance at Onna-village Matsuri.
Onna-Matsuri Eisa Groups performing Eisa; each area of Onna competes. Pick your favorite group and rate them on their performance.
During the month of August is Obon Season with Eisa being the music played to call for the ancestors to return & join in with their families. At the end of Eisa is the visits to the Tombs where food and drink is enjoyed by family members. At the homes, Money is burned to send back with the deceased with the smoke leading the way to their resting places; similar to the Lantern Festival with the lanterns placed in the water to lead the spirits back to their resting places until the next year. Great time to be on Okinawa to enjoy the music. During the last week of Eisa, groups will travel to all of the villages to perform for everyone with the only pay being the offering of cold tea or other beverages. Money is always accepted for the cost of bringing the groups around.
