Some 1,600 islands, thick with greenery, form a maze of channels in the azure waters off northeastern Vietnam. Although people have lived in the region of Ha Long Bay for thousands of years, most of the islands remain uninhabited. But these coves and natural towers are rich with wildlife. For centuries, this spectacular seascape has inspired wonder.
The name Ha Long, Vietnamese for “descending dragon,” is reflected in a legend: Once, when the Viet people faced invasion, a dragon flew down from heaven to their defense. The creature sprayed not only fire, but also jewels that became the green archipelago.
The scientific explanation for the rock formations, known as karst, is also amazing. For millions of years, seashells and sediments fell to an ancient seafloor, forming solid rock. Tectonic activity raised the resulting limestone above water. Rainfall and rivers dissolved exposed rock, and carved valleys that flooded after the last ice age, creating this rare example of a karst field at sea.
Features include lakes and caves through the islands, and notches and tunnels where seawater has worn at the pillars' foundations. The fantastic landscape also continues into two adjacent national parks, on Cat Ba Island and Bai Tu Long Bay.
You can go kayaking, caving, or even take a ride in a seaplane to experience the grandeur of these enchanting tropical islands.

Hanoi, the Capital of Vietnam
Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, and also its second largest city, is a fascinating blend of East and West, with Chinese influence from centuries of dominance, and French from its colonial past. It was largely unspoiled by the modern architecture of the 1970s and 80s, and is now undergoing a rapid transformation that makes it a rising star in Southeast Asia.
Invading forces from every direction agree: Hanoi makes a fine capital. It has held that title for more than a thousand years, through several invasions, occupations, restorations, and name changes. Hanoi retains much of its older colonial charm, despite the battles that have raged over it.
As the capital of Vietnam for almost a thousand years, Hanoi is considered one of the main cultural centres of Vietnam, where most Vietnamese dynasties have left their imprint. Even though some relics have not survived through wars and time, the city still has many interesting cultural and historic monuments for visitors and residents alike. Even when the nation's capital moved to Hue in 1802, the city of Hanoi continued to flourish, especially after the French took control in 1888 and modeled the city's architecture to their tastes, lending an important aesthetic to the city's rich stylistic heritage. The city hosts more cultural sites than any city in Vietnam, and boasts more than 1,000 years of history, and that of the past few hundred years has been well preserved.
The Old Quarter is second only to Hoi An for uninterrupted stretches of colonial and pre-colonial architecture, well-preserved on dense warrens of narrow, wonderfully atmospheric streets. It trades the commercial boom and sprawl of Ho Chi Minh City in the south for a more understated charm, worth enjoying for an extra day or two, and with countless transport options and travel agents, it makes a perfect base for exploration of the North.

Hanoi - The City For Peace | Beautiful Vietnam | Flycam 4K
Hanoi - The City For Peace | Beautiful Vietnam | Flycam 4K
➥ Description:
2019 marks the 20th anniversary of Hanoi being recognized as a ‘City for Peace’ by UNESCO. In 1999 Hanoi was the only Asia Pacific country granted this title by UNESCO.
Since early this year, the city authorities have carried out numerous activities to mark the occasion, including major cultural events involving many countries worldwide. A highlight of these was the Open Hanoi Dragon Boat Racing Festival 2019 earlier this month, attracting many foreign athletes.
We’ve taken a series of solutions to make Hanoi cleaner and greener. The city has also issued two codes of conduct for Hanoi city dwellers to preserve and promote their beautiful manners, said Hanoi Mayor Nguyen Duc Chung.
Hanoi currently maintains friendly cooperation with more than 100 capitals and cities worldwide. The city has proved to be a global responsible member with its rising prestige at many important international forums.
Hanoi’s celebrations of its 20th anniversary of receiving the title “City for Peace” coincides with the 2nd DPRK-US summit, scheduled for this Wednesday and Thursday. The summit is considered a great opportunity for Hanoi to promote its image to the world as an active city rich in history that favors peace. Preparations for the upcoming summit are almost completed, according to Mayor Nguyen Duc Chung.
A huge workload in preparations for the summit has almost been completed. Decorations for all routes connecting Noi Bai airport with the city center, major roads, and hotels in downtown Hanoi have been finished. This includes 4,000 welcoming gates, 500,000 vases of flowers and 4,000 poles displaying flags of Vietnam, the US, and the DPRK, said Chung.
The historic Trump-Kim summit in Hanoi is expected to create a remarkable breakthrough for peace negotiations on the Korean peninsula.

Things to do in Hanoi, Vietnam | vagabond vlog
My high school best friend Sharon and I decided to book an 11-day trip to Vietnam and Thailand. We did 3.5 days in Vietnam (Hanoi and Halong Bay), and 5 in Thailand! I packed only a carry-on for these 11 days (other days were all spent traveling) so you will see me wear pretty much the same outfit all of Vietnam (don't worry, by the 2nd day, I had ordered laundry service hehe).
Vietnam has always been a very special place to me because all my favorite people in my life are from there, I love the food, and its complex history has always drawn me in. Though this was just a dipping of the toes, I'm excited to go back ASAP.
It was 50-60s F which was pretty cold for an LA girl like me but otherwise, the weather was prime. :-) I think I spent about $3-4 or less per meal here which is WHY we were PIGGING out aLL the time !! I don't remember a lot of the names of the places we went to so if you know them, please let me know so I can write them down here!

VIETNAM TRAVEL, VIETNAMESE FOOD, HANOI, VIETNAMESE FOOD IN HANOI
VIETNAM TRAVEL, VIETNAMESE FOOD, HANOI CITY, CRAZY TRAFFIC IN VIETNAM, CROSSING BUSY ROAD Vietnam is a Southeast Asian country on the South China Sea known for its beaches, rivers, Buddhist pagodas and bustling cities. Hanoi, the capital, pays homage to the nation’s iconic Communist-era leader, Ho Chi Minh, via a huge marble mausoleum. Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon) has French colonial landmarks, plus Vietnamese War history museums and the Củ Chi tunnels, used by Viet Cong soldiers. Vietnam, officially the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (Vietnamese: Cộng hòa xã hội chủ nghĩa Việt Nam (About this sound listen)), is the easternmost country on the Indochina Peninsula in Southeast Asia. With an estimated 94.6 million inhabitants as of 2016, it is the world's 14th-most-populous country, and the ninth-most-populous Asian country. Vietnam is bordered by China to the north, Laos to the northwest, Cambodia to the southwest, Thailand across the Gulf of Thailand to the southwest, and the Philippines, Malaysia and Indonesia across the South China Sea to the east and southeast.[d] Its capital city has been Hanoi since the reunification of North and South Vietnam in 1976, with Ho Chi Minh City as a historical city as well.
The northern part of Vietnam was part of Imperial China for over a millennium, from 111 BC to AD 939. An independent Vietnamese state was formed in 939, following a Vietnamese victory in the Battle of Bạch Đằng River. Successive Vietnamese imperial dynasties flourished as the nation expanded geographically and politically into Southeast Asia, until the Indochina Peninsula was colonized by the French in the mid-19th century.
Following a Japanese occupation in the 1940s, the Vietnamese fought French rule in the First Indochina War, eventually expelling the French in 1954. Thereafter, Vietnam was divided politically into two rival states, North Vietnam (officially the Democratic Republic of Vietnam), and South Vietnam (officially the Republic of Vietnam). Conflict between the two sides intensified in what is known as the Vietnam War, with heavy intervention by the United States on the side of South Vietnam from 1965 to 1973. The war ended with a North Vietnamese victory in 1975.
Vietnam was then unified under a Marxist-Leninist government but remained impoverished and politically isolated. In 1986, the government initiated a series of economic and political reforms which began Vietnam's path towards integration into the world economy.[12] By 2000, it had established diplomatic relations with all nations. Since 2000, Vietnam's economic growth rate has been among the highest in the world,[12] and, in 2011, it had the highest Global Growth Generators Index among 11 major economies.[13] Its successful economic reforms resulted in its joining the World Trade Organization in 2007. It is also a member of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation and the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie. Vietnam remains one of the world's four remaining[citation needed] one-party socialist states officially espousing communism.
My Vietnam Travel Story. ( Halong Bay, Ho Chi Minh, Hanoi, Phu Quoc..)
Few months ago i was travelling a one month around Vietnam.
I've visited Halong Bay, Ho Chi Minh City, Sapa, Ninh Binh, Hanoi, Phu Quoc and more..
Vietnam is a country of big diversity: Chaotic cities and sleepy rural villages.
Mountains and beaches, palm trees and pines.
But definitely is a best place for food lovers.

NINH BINH - TRANG AN IS A MUST SEE!! (Vietnam)
Straight up. Ninh Binh amazed us. Mostly Trang An, which is an unbelievable journey through one of the most beautiful landscapes we have ever seen. We heard many times how Tam Coc is the main draw in Ninh Binh and as soon as we arrived that was our plan.
Once we started talking to a few people they told us we should check out the alternative option; Trang An. It is less expensive, a better experience, less touristy, and overall just way better. We thought we should check it out and we weren't disappointed.
This day was up there around one of our favorite days yet on our entire trip. If you find yourself in Vietnam, a trip to Ninh Binh is definitely worth it and make sure you go check out Trang An.
This is the start of our journey to pursue a life fulfilling our travel passions while we document the ups and downs of embracing the 'location independent', remote working - digital nomad - lifestyle.

Halong Bay Luxury Cruise | Signature Cruise
This Halong Bay Luxury Cruise was made possible by:
If you’ve never been to Halong Bay, you need to add taking a luxury cruise through Halong Bay to your bucket list! Halong Bay is a UNESCO World Heritage Site for a good reason. It is one of the most beautiful places we have ever seen! It’s filled with giant lime stone karsts that jut out of the water in every direction for miles.
The best way to experience the bay is by a luxury cruise. There are tons of cruise ship operators offering cruises through Halong Bay. The cruises range from cheap backpack boats to five start luxury cruise ships. Since visiting Halong Bay is most likely a once in a lifetime experience, we decided to splurge on a 5 star luxury cruise to ensure that we had the best experience possible!
We booked our cruise with Signature Cruise and we were elated with our experience. Seriously, we don’t have a bad thing to say about Signature Cruises, and that should mean a lot coming from me because when I splurge on an experience I am very critical. Also, the staff treated us like royalty! They made our experience even better.
Our luxurious cruise through Halong Bay started with an amazing lunch served while we were cruising to a floating fishing village. After arriving at the floating village we were rowed around the village in a row boat by one of the women who lived in the floating village. After our row boat ride was completed, we visited a pearl farm to learn how pearls are made. To be completely honest, this sounded kind of lame to me when I read it on the itinerary, but it was actually really interesting!
After leaving the pearl farm, we were taken back to the cruise ship. After an hour or so of relaxing and taking in the beautiful views of Halong Bay, we had a cooking class where we learned to make fresh spring rolls. After the cooking class we enjoyed happy hour with more beautiful views. After happy hour, a delicious five course dinner was served aboard the boat. After dinner I had the opportunity to try my hand at squid fishing. I got really lucky and managed to catch 10!
