Sa Ba Street Food Tours Insight: Lan Tah Yeh Mont
A pilot-episode for a new series about street food in Myanmar. In this episode Marc Shortt (Sa Ba Street Food) follows Ma Thuza, one of the best when it comes to Lan Tah Yeh Mont, also known as Gypsy or Gangster Snack. We start with the buying of the ingredients, follow all the preparations, and end with the customers tucking-into their favourite street food snack. Lan Tah Yeh Mont is a typical street food, that fuses Burmese and Indian ingredients and cooking techniques, to create one of Yangon's favourite snacks: A pancake made of rice flour, filled with fresh veggies, herbs, spices, chickpeas and of course chillies.

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the travel bug! We started “travel hacking” and taking more trips together and finally decided we wanted to travel for one year. After 2 years of saving $ and travel hacking over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left January 10, 2016. We started this YouTube channel to share our experiences with friends and family, then decided we really liked vlogging and traveling. So we extended our 1 year trip to THREE years :) Now we have a goal of traveling to 100 countries before Nate turns 30 (which is March 20, 2019)! We are incredibly thankful to do something we love every day. :)
Yangon Street Food ft. Marc & Sa Ba Street Food Tours Part 3 - Chinatown
I love street food and I see it as the gateway to understanding a country’s cultural and culinary identity. As a backpacker, there’s also no better way to get well fed on the cheap than dining on street food! However, whenever I arrive in a new country I have a problem – I don’t know where to find the most authentic street food that’s also safe (food poisoning sucks!). Doesn’t matter how much research I do beforehand, the fact is that nothing beats a local’s knowledge and experience when it comes to street food. I have teamed up with Marc from Sa Ba Street Food Tours in Yangon, who has kindly agreed to take me on his most popular evening street food tour around downtown Yangon and show me (and you) the best street food Myanmar has to offer in this 3 part series!
In Part 3, we end our night in the bustling Chinatown and probably the liveliest part of Yangon at night. A must try in Chinatown is the many BBQ stalls on 19th street, with the steamed whole lemon fish being the star of the show, downed with some refreshing Myanmar Beer. Marc also has me take on the challenge of eating a palm weevil larvae, a chubby and wiggly insect that’s definitely not for the faint-hearted.
Be sure to check out Part 1 and 3 of this Yangon Street Food Tour!

For full disclosure, I only covered the cost of the food and drinks for both of us, which essentially constitutes a discount given the price of the regular tour and the fact that it was basically a private tour rather than the usual group tour. However this has in no way influenced my opinion at all – the tour is totally worth it at full price!

Life in Yangon (ရန်ကုန်), Myanmar (မြန်မာ) ⎮Vlog #1
Life in Yangon, Myanmar ⎮Vlog #1 (typo* it's inktober 2018 )
Hi there. I’m Arkar. I have been wanting to start vlogging for a couple of years ago. But many excuses make me more easy to procrastinate. So I include “vlogging” in my 2019 resolutions.
The first couple of clips are from last year. I’ve been shooting, editing and procrastinating again. I was also thinking of what others might think about the vlog because my days are sooo dittos. All are the same and boring. I used to stay at home being lazy on my phone and not productive at all. This week I try to go out more and realize there are so many things I am missing out. I will try to be as much consistent as I can.
So.. enjoy! Nice to meet you. If you want to know more about Myanmar, Yangon or something else, put it down in the comment. :)

Walking up Pyay Road in Yangon
In this video I take a walk up the long Pyay Road in Yangon. Along this road you will find many attractions such as the People's Park, the National Museum, many malls, Inya Lake and many others. In the video I visit a large compound of 66 monasteries and the Pegu Club - the old gentleman's club from colonial days.
