Mekong River Sunset Cruise | Luang Prabang, Laos
We arrived enjoyed our slow boat tour to Luang Prabang Laos so much that we wanted to end our stay in the city with a sunset tour along the Mekong. We arrived at the launch point around 5pm to leave for the 2.5 hour cruise and paid approximately $10 per person and included one Laos Mojito. Boy oh boy was that drink one of the nastiest tasting cocktails we’ve ever had. I think they made with locally made Laos Whiskey and it was absolutely foul.
The views were amazing. I always love the vibrant colors of sunset, but the way the colors changed and made the mountains look like they were glowing. We sat and watched as brooding rain clouds inched there way forward over the city. The slow boats will always hold a special place in our hearts and we recommend giving them a try if you ever get the chance.
After the sunset cruise we stopped at one of the riverside restaurants and ordered our last meal in Luang Prabang. It was little bittersweet, but we were ready to move on and conquer our next city.......Vang Vieng

I booked this tour from my hotel for $25. I was about 2 hours cruising time down the Mekong the live music and dance. The food was good and plenty to go around.

Mekong river boat cruise from Luang Prabang to Pak Ou Caves - sunset cruise
We rented a private boat for 400.000 kip which is about 46€ to go up the Mekong river and visit the Pak Ou Caves. The caves were actually not as exciting as expected and we were done seeing them in around 15 minutes. But the boat cruise was the actual highlight, seeing the beautiful countryside, fisherman, water buffalos and a pretty amazing sunset!

SONG XANH Sampan boats - Mekong delta (2005)
Song Xanh sampan boats was the second project designed in Mekong delta by J.L Portenseigne in 2005. With five boats in total, and like the Cai Be Princess sampans, they were also new and innovative in Mekong delta when they were launched in 2005, combining charm, style and comfort, matching the delta atmosphere. Their low draft and dimensions allowed cruises on the very small delta's arroyos and low bridges. Their concept and design became very popular and until recently, offered to many travelers an intimate cruise experience and cross cultural interactions with the local population. Equipped with living room, bathroom, 1 or 2 bed rooms, a sundeck, they were ideal for individual travelers, families, or friend parties. These sampan boats were the first to offer overnight cruises in Mekong delta for individuals on hidden river paths from Cai Be to Vinh Long, Sa Dec, Long Xuyen, Rach Gia, Can tho or Chau Doc in 2 or 3 days, and with just a crew of 3 and a tour leader.
They were successfully operated by Mekong Horizon from 2005 until 2013.
