Sareemaa tour! Estonia is a spectacular and gorgeous country in the Baltic. It sits west of Russia, north of Lativa, and across from the Baltic Sea- Finland. Most people who tour this country only check out the capital Tallinn. In this video, my wife and I decide to explore the island of Sareemaa. The island has so much to explore with its wonderful spa hotels and legendary sites. Here's a list of places we visited:

The group drove through Muhu Island to catch a ferry back to mainland Estonia where the Historical Baltic Republics trip would end in Tallinn. The two weeks flew by with such varied sights. Windmills, Riga, Vilnius, Tallinn, sand dunes, witches, pagan history, medieval houses and castles...too much to even remember. Watch for all the details to be published on TravelsWithSheila.com
A few more sights and a group photo before boarding one of the very nice ferries that run back and forth to the mainland. Our ferry resembled a mini-cruise ship with amenities for children, food and drinks for sale. And, we still had an opera to attend in Tallinn before flying Lufthansa back to Frankfurt, the first stop in the long haul back to Chicago. Hope you enjoyed the videos as much as I did taking them! Kuressaare Castle Museums and Dinner in A Windmill
Beside the multitude of medieval sights like Tall Hermann Tower, Kuressaare Castle had museum rooms. One floor was devoted to life on Saaremaa Island under the Russians and Nazis while another area had exhibits dating from pre-historic times.
This video shows the picks that I thought were interesting otherwise it would have been a two-hour National Geographic Special!
Koguva Open Air Museum, Muhu, Estonia
Tiny Muhu Island was the home of Juhan Smuul, a famous Estonian writer who was born in 1922. His boyhood home has been turned into the Koguva Open Air Museum, a preserved living village. The oldest buildings date from the 18th century and it was fascinating to walk around the beautiful property and learn how these traditional farmers lived.
Ceilings were low to keep in the heat. Salt was smuggled in from Sweden to salt the fish. And, the entire family slept in one room. Just a few of the many interesting tidbits...
