BEAUTIFUL WATERFALLS IN SABIE | Mpumalanga, South Africa Tourism
Starting in Sabie, the 50 km Sabie Waterfall Route follows the Main Road out of Sabie – R532 – both north and south west of town, connecting one waterfall with the next, the countryside a rich canvas of forested ravines, rivers, passes and valleys.Nowhere else in the country is it possible to combine such views, and picnic spots, with so many waterfalls.
Bridal Veil Falls - The delicate spray of this fall does remind one of the gossamer veil of a bride, despite its impressive drop. You’ll find Bridal Veil Falls just 6 km outside of Sabie, making it one of the most accessible falls. There is a bit of a steep climb to reach the falls, but the view is worth it.
Lone Creek Falls - If there is one waterfall you make time for, then Lone Creek Falls is it. Not only because it has one of the shortest walks from the parking area – only 200 metres shrouded in trees – but also because its long, narrow drop makes it one of the most interesting and beautiful falls close to Sabie. A particularly pretty viewpoint lies at the base of the falls.
Horseshoe Falls - Exactly as its name suggests, these falls drop in the shape of a horseshoe – cascading on either side of a solid rock.
Mac Mac Falls - Mac Mac are the first falls you’ll reach if you leave by the R532 north of Sabie. It’s a short walk from the parking area before you reach a ‘platform’ that overlooks the falls.
Maria Shires Falls - Less-well known than the bigger falls, Maria Shires is pretty and private – perfect for a picnic. Like Forest Falls, not far from here, the setting is forested and tranquil.
Forest Falls - A lovely forest walk to the falls, although not clearly marked, and not everyone manages to find it. Those who do rave about the views and the gentleness of the walk.
Lisbon Falls - Lisbon and Berlin Falls are closer to Graskop and God’s Window, on the Panorama Route. When in full flow, these falls are nothing short of spectacular.
Berlin Falls - Almost as beautiful as the Lisbon Falls, Berlin Falls are a must, even if the road leading up to the view point needs upgrading. If you’re on your way to Kruger, these are one of the easiest waterfalls to add to the drive.

Waterfalls in Sabie after many days of rain in South Africa's Mpumalanga lowveld
The Sabie Waterfalls Route in Mpumalanga is amongst South Africa's best-kept secrets: visitors are often so captivated by the Blyde River Canyon Nature Reserve, with its magnificent cliffs and stunning views, not to mention dazzling flora and fauna, that this superb cluster of waterfalls is often overlooked.
There are more waterfalls here than anywhere else in southern Africa, and you'll be astonished by their beauty and diversity. Forget the Big Five and that magnificent canyon for a while, set aside a day or two, and take yourself on a waterfalls tour.
Start in Sabie and head north on the R532 towards the clearly signposted Horseshoe, Lone Creek and Bridal Veil Falls.
As the name suggests, the Horseshoe Falls creates an almost perfect horseshoe as it cascades down the mountainside. It's an easy walk through a campsite to get a superb view.
A short drive away is the evocatively named Lone Creek Falls, which tumble down almost 70m into lush ferns and forest.
You'll understand why the Bridal Veil Falls, again just a brief drive away, are so-named when you see the delicate tracery of water and spray that wafts like a veil from the high cliffs.
For more Sabie waterfalls, go further north on the R532 and head for the gorgeous Mac Mac Falls, named for the Scottish miners who sought their fortune here during the 1870s gold rush.
Next stop is South Africa's highest waterfall – The Lisbon Falls, named by Portuguese miners who panned for gold here. These falls crash down 90m into the gorge below.
Finally, it's off to the Berlin Falls, shaped like a huge white candle, which flows through a natural sluice before dropping 80m into a deep pool below. Then enjoy your packed lunch in the green shade of a lovely picnic spot.
The lowveld town Sabie boasts a number of spactacular waterfalls in South Africa and the waterfalls are breathtaking at the moment due high rainfall during the last few days. Cyclone dineo definitely had a hand in delivering some of the rain.

SABIE TOUR 4: The Sabie Falls
Sabie Falls
The Sabie Falls is situated on the R532 on the outskirts of Sabie under the new bridge across the sabie river. A short walk brings you to a viewpoint where the waterfall plunges 73m down the Sabie Gorge. The foundations of an old hydro-electric plant- from where Sabie obtained it’s electric power in 1907 – can still be seen at the bottom of the falls.

Sabie – Bridal Veil Falls – Lonecreek Falls – Horseshoe Falls/ Panorama Route Day 1 of 4
Time stamps of each waterfall we checked out.
4:09 View of Sabie River Camp
5:24 Bridal Veil Falls
8:52 Lonecreek Falls
9:53 Horseshoe Falls
We were only in Sabie for a long weekend and packed in as much as we could each day, but still didn’t get to see everything there was to see.
We camped at the picturesque Sabie River Camp, on the Sabie river, only arriving and setting up camp in the dark.
In the morning we had breakfast at The wild Fig Tree in Sabie to fuel us for a day of waterfalls.
Our first waterfall was Bridal Veil Falls, just outside of Sabie. It’s a lovely walk up the footpath to the 146-meter waterfall, and the footpath leads all the way round behind the waterfall, and with the low hanging clouds it lived up to its name, showing off its veil.
Next up was Lone Creek Falls, which was a much shorter walk to the 70-meter falls, which drops into a crystal-clear shallow pool at the bottom. The falls are part of the Blyde river watercourse, which we see more of in the following days.
The last falls of the day was Horseshoe falls, named for the rock formation forcing the water into two falls forming a horseshoe shape. These unusual falls have been declared a national monument.
We had coffee at The Woodsman Pub and Restaurant in Sabie, before heading back to our campsite for a dip in the heated swimming pool.

Vlog - My Trip to Sabie, Mpumalanga, South Africa. Sightseeing in Sabie
Hi there,
This is my first ever vlog and I think it came it out quite nice for a first try,
We spent the weekend in Sabie with lovely friends and enjoying seeing the beautiful panorama in Mpumalanga, South Africa - very close to Kruger National Park,
I do hope you enjoy watching this,
Thank you,
Sabie Falls - Panorama Route
Near Sabie, in Mpumalanga, The Lone Creek Falls presides majestically the rocky landscape. The waterfall plummets 70 m down into the narrow , abrupt Creek.
Sabie - three rondavels: in november
Exactly as they sound, the Three Rondavels are three round mountain tops with slightly pointed tops, very similar to the traditional round or oval African homesteads made with local materials called rondavels. They are sometimes also called the Three Sisters (although this confuses them with a similar threesome visible from the N1 in the Free State lower down in the country).
Once known as The chief and his three wives – the flat-topped peak represented Mapjaneng, famous for opposing invading Swazis in a memorable battle is on the right, whilst the rondavels are three of his more troublesome wives – Magabolle, Mogoladikwe and Maseroto.
The view point is spectacular. From here one looks over the canyon to the Three Rondavels on the other side of the northern edges of the Drakensberg range of mountains. An outlook that is overwhelmingly beautiful and deserves more than a moment's respite

Mpumalanga: Sabie, Graskop, Hoedspruit & surroundings
We took a short 5 day trip through Mpumalanga (South Africa) and visited Sabie, Pilgrim's Rest, Graskop & the Big Swing, Horse Shoe Falls, Lone Creek Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, Mac Mac Pools, Mac Mac Falls and God's Window. Also stopped along the way and visited Boskombuis for lunch (twice!), Echo Caves, Bourke's Luck Potholes and spent some time on an awesome echo game reserve in Hoedspruit. Saw lot's of game and had a bush braai to celebrate New Year's eve.
