HIKING in the CANADIAN ROCKIES: FAIRVIEW MOUNTAIN
SKIP INTRO: 0:35
Fairview Mountain is located right next to beautiful Lake Louise and offers a picturesque 360 degree view of the area. A short forgiving hike with minimal scrambling gives even a newcomer to the rockies a rewarding experience.
My good friend Jill was visiting from back home in Ontario for a week so what better way to appreciate the mountains for the first time than to climb up to 2,744m!
I've created this video with the intent to aid others with knowledge of the hike from the trailhead at Lake Louise to the summit of Fairview Mountain.

Mt. Fairview -- Lake Louise -- Amazing Views
We did Mt. Fairview and Saddle Mountain at Lake Louise on August 13th. This is just a steep hike with roughly 1000m elevation gain (9000' high) to the top of Fairview.
Saddleback Pass is about 1 hour 15 minutes to reach. It took us 2 hours to summit. Once back down at Saddleback Pass we headed up Saddle Mountain which only took roughly 15 minutes from the pass. Great Views even with a little bit of smoke from the B.C. forest fires.
This is a great hike if you want to expend minimal effort for amazing surrounding views of some very Big Peaks and of course the Victoria Glacier. Great views of Big Beehive, Niblock, Whyte, Temple, and many others.

Banff Lake Louise Scenic Hike
Banff National Park of Canada
Hiking above Lake Louise on the trail toward Saddleback Pass in August.
After a quick look at the beautiful turquoise Lake, we removed ourselves from the throngs of tourists and began our ascent up the mountain. As we traveled through the forest along a trail toward toward Saddleback Pass/Mt Fairview, we noticed many varieties of mushrooms and colorful wildflowers. Hiking higher into open territory, we saw across the valley Lake Louise Ski Resort. We’ll have to return in winter to ski there!
Distance hiked: 7.84 mi
Elevation Gain: 2,340 ft
Difficulty: Challenging

Lake Louise is named after the Princess Louise Caroline Alberta (1848–1939),[2] the fourth daughter of Queen Victoria and the wife of the Marquess of Lorne, who was the Governor General of Canada from 1878 to 1883.
The turquoise colour of the water comes from rock flour carried into the lake by melt-water from the glaciers that overlook the lake. The lake has a surface of 0.8 km2 (0.31 sq mi) and is drained through the 3 km long Louise Creek into the Bow River.
Fairmont's Chateau Lake Louise, one of Canada's grand railway hotels, is located on Lake Louise's eastern shore. It is a luxury resort hotel built in the early decades of the 20th century by the Canadian Pacific Railway.
Moraine Lake and Lake Agnes are also accessible from Lake Louise.

A variety of hiking trails exist around the lake. Hiking trails include trips to Saddleback Pass, Fairview Mountain (2,744 m (9,003 ft)), Mirror Lake, Lake Agnes, Big Beehive, Little Beehive, Devils Thumb, Mount Whyte, and Mount Niblock. Some of these trails are open to mountain biking and horseback riding, and the surrounding mountain faces offer opportunities for rock climbing. The nearby Lake Louise Ski Area, formerly known as Lake Louise Mountain Resort, offers amenities for alpine and Cross-country skiing, as well as heli-skiing and snowboarding. The lake can be used for ice fishing and ice skating in winter, while the surrounding area offers settings for snowmobiling, dog sledding, snowshoeing and ice climbing.[4]
The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise is a Fairmont hotel on the eastern shore of Lake Louise, near Banff, Alberta. The original hotel was gradually developed at the turn of the 20th century by the Canadian Pacific Railway and was thus kin to its predecessors, the Banff Springs Hotel and the Château Frontenac. The hotel's wooden Rattenbury Wing was destroyed by fire on 3 July 1924, and was replaced by the current Barrot Wing one year later. The Painter Wing, built in 1913, is the oldest existing portion of the hotel. The Mount Temple Wing, opened in 2004, is the most recent wing and features modern function facilities; these include the Mount Temple Ballroom.*wiki
