Next Exit History is a project of the Departments of History and Engineering and Computer Technology at the University of West Florida, WUWF Public Media, and the University of South Florida Libraries Florida Studies Center.
The project gathers site-specific, scholarly content on historic communities and reproduces it in engaging electronic media, that incorporates rich metadata, including GPS information for use over a variety of delivery models.
The immediate goal of this project is to promote Florida history by creating audio and audio-visual historical podcasts, of 50 Florida towns. To be eligible for inclusion, a community must have a core of standing structures of historical significance and be easily accessible from one of the states four Interstate highways: I-10, I-75, I-95, or I-4. The podcasts that are produced as part of this project constitute an electronic repository of scholar-certified, historical content that is accessible to the general public.

The Phantom of the Opera 1988, Saenger Theatre.wmv
In 1973, my eldest child, Gary Michael Namm, was 14 years old. In that year he performed a major league organ recital at the Church of the Heavenly Rest, at the corner of East 90th Street and Fifth Avenue in New York City. Gary had been an organ student under Charles Drexler in Setauket, New York, presently of Middlebury, Vermont, when at an early age, Mr. Drexler told us that Gary was such an advanced student, we needed to take him to New York City to study under his teacher, Charles Dodsley Walker of the Church of the Heavenly Rest. He was immediately accepted by Mr. Walker, the founder of the Canterbury Choral Society, as his student. This necessitated that my late wife, Lenore, and I would have to drive our entire family almost every Saturday morning the two hours plus from Stony Brook, New York to the center of Manhattan adjacent to Central Park. After a period of less than one year, Mr. Walker suggested that Gary's proficiency as an organist was so advanced that he ought to give an organ recital at the Church of the Heavenly Rest on its magnificent pipe organ. Gary was Mr. Walker's youngest student. The recital was a great event, attended by many family and friends, including Ward Melville, then handicapped in a wheel chair, the founder of Thom McAnn Shoes and the man who contributed the large tract of land on which the State University of New York at Stony Brook is located. Several years later, after Gary had graduated from Furman University with two degrees, a Bachelor of Arts in Organ Performance, and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, he was invited to accompany the silent movie version of The Phantom of the Opera starring the great Lon Chaney in Pensacola, Florida at the recently restored magnificent Saenger Theatre which had refurbished its phenomenal theatre pipe organ for a performance on Halloween Day 1987. This video is the silent movie version of The Phantom of the Opera starring Lon Chaney with Gary at the keyboard of the magnificent Saenger Theatres Pipe Organ playing an arrangement which he personally created for the major occasion on Halloween night 1988. The original accompaniment has been digitally removed and covered with Gary's self created accompaniment on this great pipe organ, and so you can view the film full screen in its entirety.

Naturalization Ceremony - Pensacola, FL - Friday, July 24, 2015
Around 200 people became new US citizens during the naturalization ceremony on Friday, July 24, 2015. This video shows each person standing and saying their name, and the country they came from. My wife (Joan) and I were there because a good friend, Meg Melvin, from Great Britain, was one of those who took the oath of citizenship. We also discovered that another friend, Louisette Woodward, from Canada, was also taking the oath of citizenship.

Seussical
Believe it or not, we at Delusions of Grandeur Theatre are educated. Both of us were once proud members of the University of West Florida Theatre Department. As such, we enjoy spreading the word about their shows. In honor of their upcoming release of Seussical the Musical, dogtheatre has decided to do our own Seussical... of sorts.
