Hey guys! It's Abbey!
For my birthday weekend, we decided to go out and see the Saga International Balloon Fiesta in Saga, Japan! Hot air balloons from all over the world come out to this festival to compete and exhibit their balloons. Neither me or Roy have ever seen a hot air balloon in person, so we were really excited for the opportunity! The fiesta is a four or five day event. On Saturday and Sunday, they have competition flights in the morning. Then, at night they have a light up show where all of the balloons are lit to the music. Since there is a lot of downtime between the two, we decided to see the night show on Saturday and the competition flight on Sunday morning.
We thought we were going to be there early for the night show, but we waited in a line to park for over an hour without making any real progress. We knew that even if we continued waiting and found a spot that the event would be over by the time we walked to it. We gave up and started to leave, but Roy had the great idea of driving around some back roads to see if we could catch a glimpse of the balloons, at least. Because of that, we ended up finding a small parking area with access to the not-very-well-known photography area, and we were blessed with an amazing view of the show from across the water. Good job, husband!

Pharrell Williams - HAPPY with BALLOON in SAGA
This is the promotion movie for FAI World Hot Air Balloon Championship in SAGA 2016.
The movie is filled with various colors of balloons from the venue of International Balloon Fiesta held every autumn in Saga, mixed with Saga castle History Museum and other sightseeing spots in Saga-city. Among people dancing those places, mayor of Saga-city, Hideshima shows his moving with his staff and governor of Saga prefecture, Furukawa shows his calligraphy, Netsu-kikyu (hot air balloon). Furthermore, citizens including Yosakoi dancers, airport staff, farmers, and children appear on this movie.
Thanks to the permission for non commercial use, HAPPY by Pharrel Williams is playing important role for the movie. A line of lyrics〝I'm a hot air balloon that could go to space〟of this song inspired us to create this movie, then we've got sympathized〝Happiness is the journey〟what he said when visited a school on the UN International Day of Happiness.
Hope to deliver the messages to the world with balloons from Saga.

Hot springs are sure to warm your body and soul, especially during the colder months. Our correspondent recommends hot spring areas in Kumamoto and Oita Prefectures. Many inns there are back in business after the earthquakes that hit Kyushu in April 2016. Our reporter escapes the city to Tottori Prefecture. She climbs the sand dunes and takes a boat ride through pristine waters. She also gets a taste of country life with an overnight homestay in the town of Chizu.
Yoshinogari Historical Park(吉野ヶ里 遺跡 Yoshinogari iseki) SAGA
Yoshinogari (吉野ヶ里 遺跡 Yoshinogari iseki) is the name of a large and complex Yayoi archaeological site in Yoshinogari and Kanzaki in Saga Prefecture, Kyūshū, Japan. According to the Yayoi chronology established by pottery seriations in the 20th century, Yoshinogari dates to between the 3rd century BC and the 3rd century AD. However, recent attempts to use absolute dating methods such as AMS radiocarbon dating have shown that the earliest Yayoi component of Yoshinogari dates to before 400 BC.
This archaeological site is of great importance in Japanese and world prehistory because of the massive size and important nature of the settlement and the artifacts found there. Yoshinogari consists of a settlement, a cemetery, and multiple ditch-and-palisade enclosed precincts. Bronze mirrors from China, Japanese-style bronze mirrors, bronze daggers, coins, bells, and halberds, iron tools, wooden tools, prehistoric human hair, and many other precious artifacts have been unearthed from Yoshinogari features. The total area of this site is approximately 40 hectares. This site has been continuously excavated by a number of different agencies and institutions since 1986. Due to the superior features, artifacts, and significance in Japanese prehistory and protohistory, the site was designated as a Special National Historic Site in 1991, and a National Park was created there in 1992. Ancient structures are being reconstructed on the site and the park is a major tourist attraction.
Yoshinogari is located 12 km from the Ariake Sea on a low hill that extends out of the Sefuri Mountains and is surrounded on three sides by land that is suitable for wet-rice (paddy) cultivation.
