Sagamiko Illumillion I the Biggest Winter Illumination Near Tokyo I Kanagawa Prefecture I Japan

Japan is famous for Winter Illuminations and Sagamiko Resort Pleasure Forest Illumination in the Kanagawa Prefecture is one of the most popular as it can be reached in 1hr and a half from Tokyo. There are multiple options to reach Sagamiko Station with options for express trains from Tokyo Station.

Once you reach Sagamiko Station you can easily hop onto the direct bus for the resort. However, on your way back keep track of time as late in the evening the frequency of the bus decreases and it gets chilling cold too.

Also, start your day early; so that you can arrive at the resort in morning itself and can take advantage of all the fun rides for children and adults. Later, in the evening you can slow down and enjoy the dreamy winter illumination.

Let's Visit: Sagamiko, Kanagawa

Sagamiko area in the north of Kanagawa Prefecture. It's an interesting place that has a lot of charm which has been lost in the major cities. It's tranquil and people are friendly.

Sagamiko was created in the late 1940's when the river was dammed up. While it made a stunning area to visit and helped generate electricity, it also cost a lot of people, mainly fisherman, their livelihoods. The lake has been populated with fish like Black Bass to compensate them.

Getting to Sagamiko is relatively easy on the train. There are trains from Takao Station, which in turn is easily accessed via the JR East Chuo Line. The lake itself is only a stone's throw away from Sagamiko Station.

As well as the lake, Sagamiko is famous for its Autumn/Winter illuminations (Sagamiko Illumination). They are quite beautiful, but honestly, the sheer amount of people made it unappealing to me. Check them out if you want to see something dazzling, though!
