Best way to Experience the Sahara Desert | Camping in Merzouga, Morocco
The final Morocco vlog is here! Camping in the Sahara Desert at a spot called Merzouga.
Here we rode camels to our remote campsite, spent the night eating Moroccan food and listening to music played by the locals.
In the morning we made our way back to our new campsite by camel ride before jumping into some Jeeps to go on Safari.
To end it all a big long 13 hour bus ride to Marrakesh so we can finally show you what staying in a Riad is like.
Next stop: Flying home to surprise Jess's brother for Christmas!

SUNRISE IN THE SAHARA DESERT - Morocco Travel Guide
After a beautiful night in the Sahara Desert, we woke up to watch the sunrise over the sand dunes in Morocco!
It was a magical experience, watching the golden sun slowly take over the desert, creating golden peaks all around us.
Watching the sunrise in the Sahara desert was unbelievable and a must see from our Morocco travel guide!
From there, we headed off for Fes on the long journey out of the desert and through the hilltops of the Atlas Mountains and beautiful landscapes of Morocco.
Check back in a few days when we tour the city of Fes (Fez), exploring everything it has to offer!

MOROCCO - HIKING IN THE ATLAS MOUNTAINS & MEETING THE BERBERS
On our first full day in Marrakesh, Morocco, Katie and I visited the Atlas Mountains (hiking in the atlas mountains) to see how some of the Berbers live traditionally and have tea with one of the many families that opened their homes to show their way of life (meeting the berbers).
We also visited the Ourika Valley and Setti Fatma to meet the people and hike through the mountains to see a waterfall where they spend many days relaxing in the cooler temperatures of the summer heat.
It was an amazing day visiting the cultural history of the country, exploring outside of the tourist centers in Marrakech and Fez.
Check back for more on Marrakesh up next! Then we're on to Fes!

CAMPING IN THE SAHARA - Morocco Travel Guide
After an unfortunate family tragedy this morning, we finally headed off for the Sahara desert today! First, we stopped to check out the fossils in Erfoud, and then drove into the Sahara dunes.
Upon arrival, we stayed at the Bedouin Camp over the Merzouga Dunes in the Sahara Desert. We rode camels over the dunes to watch the sunset and then ate dinner in a beautiful tent and stared at the stars in complete darkness and quiet.
This was one of the most unique experiences we've ever had and we HIGHLY recommend trying to get into the desert to see the beauty it has to offer!
Check back in a few days when we head to Fes for our last part of the Moroccan adventure!

TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Dakar Rally Team – Morocco Testing with Fernando Alonso and Nasser Al-Attiyah

14:10 – Interview with Fernando Alonso
15:09 – Interview with Nasser Al-Attiyah

18:17 – Interview with Bernhard Ten Brinke
19:16 – Interview with Glyn Hall, Team Principal
Fernando Alonso and Marc Coma will enter their first international rally raid competition in the Toyota Hilux with TOYOTA GAZOO Racing at the 2019 Rally of Morocco, final round of the FIA World Cup for Cross Country Rallies, as the pair advance through an intensive training programme with their sights set firmly on the Dakar Rally. The Spanish duo’s second rally raid competition comes just three weeks after their first outing at the Lichtenburg 400 of the local South African Cross Country Series, an eventful race which tested their perseverance and resolve to the limits.
Joining multiple world champions Fernando and Marc in Morocco are the equally star-studded crews of TOYOTA GAZOO Racing South Africa who boast multiple Dakar Rally and Rally of Morocco victories, and FIA titles between them with: Nasser Al-Attiyah and navigator Mathieu Baumel, Giniel de Villiers and navigator Alex Haro, and Bernhard Ten Brinke and navigator Tom Colsoul. The four crews in TOYOTA GAZOO Racing colours will test their skills against an unparalleled field with impressive lists of accolades of their own as reigning Dakar Rally champions, Nasser and Mathieu, defend their Rally of Morocco crown for the fifth time, heading into the final round of the FIA World Cup for Cross Country Rallies in the lead.
From September 29, Fernando and Marc completed a successful four-day testing session in preparation for the Rally of Morocco near Erfoud, some 400 kilometres south of Fes, adding another 1,400 kilometres of quality mileage to their training programme as they both transition into a new discipline of motorsport. The pair continued to be mentored by Dakar Rally winner, Giniel, who also performed technical tests for the team with his new navigator, Alex, before Nasser, Mathieu, Bernhard and Tom completed the team for the pre-event test.
While Giniel has been mentoring Fernando in the Toyota Hilux at various tests since March, Nasser recently invited his new Spanish teammate to Qatar for a private training session in side-by-side off-road vehicles to share his vast rally raid expertise with the newcomer. Without taking a break, Fernando demonstrated his determination, travelling for the two-day training in the Qatari dunes immediately following the conclusion of the South African race.
Starting and concluding in the city of Fes on October 3-9, the 20th anniversary running of the Rally of Morocco will see crews tackling a mixture of technical, fast and sandy tracks and dunes on the edge of the Sahara Desert. Considered a precursor and final long distance training for the Dakar Rally, the latest edition of the Rally of Morocco features a cloverleaf layout with five competitive stages starting on October 5 and covering a total distance of nearly 2,500 kilometres.

What's Contiki?
The original travel company for the young, wild and free, we’ve perfected the art of travel since 1962. To us, wealth isn’t a number on a bank balance. It’s not the car we drive or the house we live in. We count our wealth in experiences and memories. The number of sunsets we’ve watched with best friends, the number of ancient landmarks we’ve visited, the number of times we’ve defied our comfort zone and done the extraordinary. Because we know you only get one life, one shot. So you better make it count.
What do your crew do?
Our travellers trust us to give them the experience of a lifetime, not to mention take care of all the travel hassle, so only the crème de la crème team will do.
