✓ Having recently made a pilgrimage to the Holy Town of Shirdi ourselves and seeing with our own eyes the incredibly large crowds of pilgrims and devotees who visit to do darshan (prayers), all we can say is that we are in complete awe and truly humbled by a person (such as Sai Baba) a person who walked on this earth in such a glorious manner, whose words and actions created such powerful energies and vibrations that (over 150 years later) he still has a markable impact on people's lives in such a way that we can easily sometimes forget but seeing the huge numbers of devotees and pilgrims says much more than words can say or articulate. You need not be a devotee or even a believer but you cannot ignore Shirdi Sai Baba's contribution to humanity.

Shirdi is one of India's most important pilgrimage towns. Sai Baba was a 19th century saint who brought together people from all faiths, Sai continues to heal the souls of devotees who queue up for many hours to seek blessings.

The small town which has a registered population of just over 36,000 people provides jobs and livelihood to many workers and laborers.
* On some days Shirdi can get up to 60,000 visitors in a day and it's estimated that the figures can go as high as 100,000 over the weekends (it can go as high as 500,000 during auspicious days such as Gurupoornima, Dussehra and Ramnavami).
* The beautiful temple that stands at the center of Shirdi’s economy was constructed in the year 101922, 4 years after Sai Baba’s death, the shrine was commissioned and privately owned by Mr Shrimant Gopalrao, a millionaire from Nagpur, who was a devotee of Sai Baba. Today the temple is owned and run by the Shri Saibaba Sansthan Trust.
* Another rich devotee, Mr KV Ramani, (the co-founder of NASSCOM and founding other successful software firms), Ramani donates his money to the saint of Shirdi. The philanthropist has been donating 80 per cent of his earnings to the Shirdi Sai Trust. In 2012 he donated Rs 110 crore to the trust to build an ashram that can accommodate 14,000 devotees.
* Shirdi’s literacy rate is above the national average (in the 2011 census, Shirdi’s average literacy rate was shown to be 70 per cent with male literacy at 76% & female literacy at 62%, (compared to the national average literacy rate which is 59.5%).

Grand celebration of (शिवरात्रि) is a spring Hindu festival that celebrates is a spring Hindu festival that celebrates the birthday of god Sai Baba. He is particularly important to the Vaishnavism tradition of Hinduism,The festival is a part of the spring Navratri, and falls on the ninth day of the bright half in the Hindu calendar month of Chaitra. This typically occurs in the Gregorian months of February every year.shivratri is a relatively minor festival of Hinduism and not a national holiday, but an optional restricted holiday in India.[1]
The day is marked by Rama Katha recitals, or reading of Rama storie. considered Itihasa by Indian traditions. Some Vaishnava Hindus visit a temple, others pray within their home, and some participate in a bhajan or kirtan with music as a part of puja and aarti.[6] Some devotees mark the event by taking miniature statues of the infant Sai, washing it and clothing it, then placing it in a cradle. Charitable events and community meals are also organized. The festival is an occasion for moral reflection for many Hindus.[3][7] Some mark this day by vrata (fasting).[3][8]
The important celebrations on this day take place at shiradi and (Uttar Pradesh), Sitamarhi (Bihar),[9]Janakpurdham (Nepal), Bhadrachalam (Telangana), Kodandarama Temple, Vontimitta (Andhra Pradesh) and Rameswaram (Tamil Nadu). Rathayatras, the chariot processions, also known as Shobha yatras are taken out at several places.[3][10][11] In shirdi, many take a dip in the sacred river Sarayu and then visit the Sai Baba temple.[12]
