MEKONG DELTA VIETNAM - Saigon Day Trip
We experienced local life along the Mekong Delta Vietnam for our last day in Saigon. We show you the best Saigon day trip that Vietnam has to offer, traveling by boat down the Mekong Delta and exploring a local Vietnam village along the way.
Our trip to the Mekong Delta Vietnam started with a 2 hour luxury van ride to a town called My Tho. Although we don’t normally take public tours, we arranged a small 6 person group tour with Vietnam Adventure Tours. Once we arrived in My Tho, we boarded a private boat to set sail down the Mekong Delta River. The 15 minute boat ride took us across the Mekong river to unicorn island where we explored a tourist area set up to mimic a traditional Vietnam Village. The activities on this island include: Bee Farm and Honey Tasting, Snake Holding, Coconut Candy Production, Chocolate Production, Snake Wine, and a Fruit Farm with traditional Mekong Delta music.
Next we got back on the Vietnam boat tour down the Mekong Delta to visit the area of Ben Tre. This is where we got to see a side of a more authentic Vietnam by boating down the river in a small sampan boat. This is one of the best things to do in Vietnam because you get to experience a world away from all development. We wish this part of the Mekong river tour was longer, as the small sampan boat ride was only 15 minutes long.
Next up on the Mekong Delta Tour was lunch which was included in our tour and very delicious. We were served a variety of Vietnamese food including fish, spring rolls, soup, rice, morning glory and prawns. The Vietnamese lunch was absolutely delicious!
When visiting Saigon Vietnam, we highly recommend you put a Mekong Delta Tour on your list of must do activities. Out of all the things to do in Saigon, this was one of our favorites! A quick 2 hour Saigon day trip away seems like a completely separate world apart from the hustle of Ho Chi Minh City.
If you’re interested in booking one of the best tours in Saigon, contact Vietnam Adventure Tours and request Van as your tour guide! The tour you see is the VIP Mekong Delta Tour with a luxury 7 person limo. Most Mekong tours start from $15 USD and go up to $80 USD for a public tour, and private tours are $80 USD per person and up. We hope you enjoyed our trip down the Vietnam Mekong Delta and if you have any questions please leave us a comment! We’d love to hear about your Vietnam travel or plans to visit the area.

Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnamese: Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh; About this sound listen, formerly named Saigon (Vietnamese: Sài Gòn; About this sound listen, French: Saïgon), is the largest city in Vietnam. Under the name Saigon, it was the capital of the French colony of Cochinchina and later of the independent republic of South Vietnam from 1955--75. South Vietnam was a capitalist and anti-communist state which fought against the communist North Vietnamese and Viet Cong during the Vietnam War, with the assistance of the United States and other countries. On 30 April 1975, Saigon fell and the war ended with a Communist victory. On 2 July 1976, Saigon merged with the surrounding Gia Định Province and was officially renamed Ho Chi Minh City after Hồ Chí Minh (although the name Sài Gòn is still commonly used).[3]
The metropolitan area, which consists of the Ho Chi Minh City metropolitan area, Thủ Dầu Một, Dĩ An, Biên Hòa and surrounding towns, is populated by more than 9,000,000 people,[nb 1] making it the most populous metropolitan area[4] in Vietnam. The city's population is expected to grow to 13.9 million in 2025.[5]
The Ho Chi Minh City Metropolitan Area, a metropolitan area covering most parts of the Southeast region plus Tiền Giang Province and Long An Province under planning, will have an area of 30,000 square kilometres (11,583 sq mi) with a population of 20 million inhabitants by 2020.[6] According to the Mercer Human Resource Consulting, Economist Intelligence Unit and ECA International, Ho Chi Minh City is ranked 132 on the list of world's most expensive cities for expatriate employees.

Take a boat to Vũng Tàu from Ho Chi Minh City
Vũng Tàu is a beach town located about 96 km (60 miles) from Ho Chi Minh City. It's a popular destination for people looking to escape the busyness of Ho Chi Minh City for a day or two.
The semester just ended at the university I was teaching at, so I had some extra free time to check out the city and stay overnight. I went on a Monday, so there wasn't much action. Some locals told me the place becomes packed on holidays and special events.
The city is quiet and a nice little escape if you're looking for something close-by HCMC. Suggestion: read up on the water quality before swimming - I heard it can sometimes be too polluted to swim!

The Mekong Delta in southern Vietnam is a vast maze of rivers, swamps and islands, home to floating markets, Khmer pagodas and villages surrounded by rice paddies. Boats are the main means of transportation, and tours of the region often start in nearby Ho Chi Minh City (formerly known as Saigon) or Can Tho, a bustling town in the heart of the delta.

Tour around Vietnam, The mekong River Ho Chi Minh
Hi everyone again, I am back with a video about Vietnam, more specifically the Mekong River Tour that we did on December 2018 from the Ho Chi Minh City. I hope you enjoy.
Don't forget to Subscribe :)
Vietnam is a Southeast Asian country on the South China Sea known for its beaches, rivers, Buddhist pagodas and bustling cities. Hanoi, the capital, pays homage to the nation’s iconic Communist-era leader, Ho Chi Minh, via a huge marble mausoleum. Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon) has French colonial landmarks, plus Vietnamese War history museums and the Củ Chi tunnels, used by Viet Cong soldiers.
The Mekong is a trans-boundary river in Southeast Asia. It is the world's twelfth longest river and the seventh longest in Asia. Its estimated length is 4,350 km, and it drains an area of 795,000 km², discharging 475 km³ of water annually

Infamous CU CHI TUNNELS Day Trip From Saigon, Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City)
On the outskirts of Saigon is the Cu Chi District and the infamous Cu Chi Tunnels, central site of the Vietnam War. This is a popular side trip from Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) and can be accomplished in a little under a day. This is both of huge historical importance (and an important lesson of David and Goliath proportions) and is fascinating to learn of how the Viet Song survived and got the upper hand.
Here's a quick teaser of what you might see and experience if you decide to take the tour!

Mekong Floating Markets , Ho Chi Minh ,Vietnam

The Mekong Delta
From the heights of the Tibetan Plateau, the mighty Mekong flows through six countries, giving life and a home to millions of people. For this, it was once named “Mother of all rivers”. The Mekong is one of the most speciose rivers of the world, with approximately 1,300 varieties of fish and numerous kinds of reptiles and birds.
After a journey of 4,500 kilometres (3,000 miles) it reaches the South China Sea. Nine estuaries carry enormous amounts of silt to form one of the greatest (50,000 km2) ever growing deltas in the world. Cuu Long (nine dragons) is the Vietnamese name for the nine main estuaries. More than 13 million people live by the timeless rhythm of the river in small fishing villages and boats. There are also many Khmer and Cham who live in the Mekong delta region.
The cultivation of the Mekong delta
The beginning of cultivation of the Mekong delta can be dated back to 1750 when Vietnamese monarchs started to built canals and drain swamps to gain more land for cultivation. But the main part of the development was done by the French at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuaries.
Thousands of waterways form a labyrinth of major currents and secluded canals lined with lush vegetation, mangrove swamps and verdant rice fields. Due to the fertile soil and the production of 16 million tonnes of rice per year (harvested in three crops) the Mekong delta is also called “rice bowl” of Vietnam.
The Mekong delta is an exotic paradise for travellers from all over the world: good climate, an abundance of tropical fruit, sugar cane, coconuts and colourful flowers, a relaxed atmosphere and the generous mentality of the people. Lots of the activities in the area take place on the vast waterways. Most houses have access to the river, not all of them to roads.
