Grenadines Bareboat Adventure: 8 Days Sailing in Paradise
This was my favorite bareboat charter thus far; if you’re considering a bareboat charter in St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines you should definitely go for it!
Our research told us that we were in for a lot of tradewinds sailing that would be impacted by the mountainous islands. We had heard that the anchorages and moorings fields were rolly. We weren’t sure how difficult the customs and immigration procedures would be going between St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) and St. Lucia.

Welcome to one of my Top 3 Favourite Islands in the Caribbean... Bequia in the Grenadines!
Located 10 miles South of St Vincent, it represents the first island in the Grenadines chain heading South towards Grenada which is a mere 50 miles away, and about 150 miles from South America.
Bequia is by far one of the most friendly islands you are ever going to visit, always lush green, beautiful sand beaches, lovely locals, and fresh fruit and veggie stands at the local markets every day!
Join as I give you an aerial introduction to one of my all-time favorites, and not to worry, there will be more detailed videos coming in future so stay tuned!
Cheers,
Captain Rick

(4K) St Vincent Ferry and Taxi to Bequia Island of the Grenadines - Sept 2017
I start out the video in the capital city of Kingstown in St Vincent. I take the ferry from the ferry terminal and go to the island of Bequia which is one of the Grenadines. The ferry costs $25 ECD one-way or $45 ECD round trip. And it takes 1 hour each way. There is more than one company that has ferries to Bequia and other islands.

Backyard Scene - Sail to Bequia, St Vincent and Grenadines, Caribbean
This scene was filmed as we set sail from the Blue Lagoon in St Vincent to cross the Bequia Channel... one which is notorious for being very feisty and challenging in certain wind/weather/wave conditions. But the Sirens prevailed and we laid anchor in Admiralty Bay, Bequia Island, just off Princess Margaret Beach. A great end to another amazing day, and a fabulous new Backyard!

Excerpt from my website on Discovering Bequia Island (
Discovering Bequia – After crossing the Atlantic Ocean and then hanging out in St Lucia for a month hubby and I started to get itchy feet. We enjoyed St Lucia’s lovely Rodney Bay Marina, both on the jetty and when using a mooring ball. Furthermore, we anchored in the popular Marigot Bay and a few other places near the town of Soufriere and the famous volcanic Pitons.
The time had come, however, to leave our first Caribbean destination and start exploring the surrounding area
While looking at a map my husband, Simon, and I discussed various game plans – the main question was, ‘should we go south to St Vincent and the Grenadines or north to Martinique?’
You’d think that we would have spent weeks considering our options but when we decided to make a move, we opened the map, had a ten-minute discussion and then started preparing the boat for departure.
During our stay in St Lucia, however, we received reports from a variety of other sailors about what’s good and what isn’t. Feedback on Martinique was very positive yet many boaters said to give St Vincent a miss due to high crime. Surely over the course of our meanderings around St Lucia our thoughts were being formed about our next destination.
I always find it funny how we never truly know where we’re going until we actually start sailing somewhere
After a very rocky seven hours, Britican headed into wind, I dropped the mainsail and Simon motored us into Admiralty Bay just outside the capital town of Port Elizabeth on the island of Bequia.
Sailors and contacts on my Sailing Britican FaceBook page espoused amazing reports about the small island – I heard that the area was unspoiled, full of tropical delights and home to very kind locals.
Once we anchored in the bay I looked around and thought that Bequia looked like any other island.
I wondered where all the positive reports were coming from. Sure, there were the typical colored houses on the tropically green hillside painted blue, pink, orange, and green. And the beach looked like it had lovely sand embraced with a backdrop of tall palm trees. But there were two large unsightly cargo ships parked in the bay, loads of sailboats and big ugly barge doing the rounds with, ‘Water, Laundry and Diesel’ written on the side.
Many people make the mistake that it’s us boaters that have the best view in town, but that’s not always the case.
It wasn’t until the following day when hubby took the crew and I to shore that I started to realize just how amazing Bequia really is. When we first took our dingy to one of the many dingy pontoons, and I took a few steps onto land, I noticed a very colorful, inviting and relaxed backdrop.
The main strip is filled with natural beauty including the light sandy beach, variety of colorful trees, bushes and shrubs. And the restaurants, bars and shops are not only colorful but each one has distinct character.
The Chameleon Café, situated in the busiest area of the harbor, has a seating area that’s hidden behind lovely big palms. Crewmember Eve and I enjoyed ‘one of the best smoothies on the island’ (Eve’s words) and a glass of wine (guess who had the wine?).
Find out what rating I gave Bequia. Read the full article here:

Caribbean St Vincent Bequia Island
A Carribean sailing trip to the Bequia Island from St Vincent.
Sailing the Grenadines and Tobago Cays
The beautiful journey continues... WE have left Grenada and are heading north towards St. Vincent and the Grenadines. It feels good to move on to the other islands and stretch our our boats sea legs. Happy to be on the move and excited to see what the Grenadines has to offer and man does it have a lot! WE first sailed to Carricou the island just north of Grenada and then to Sandy Island. A small taste of another paradise where we swim with a nurse shark in the little lagoon. Then we sail up to Union Island and check ourselves in for the next month of exploring the Grenadines, have sundowners on little Happy Island and watch the kitesurfing show as the sun goes down, and then find a stunning Marine Reserve of the Tobago Cays and swim with the sea turtles. If this is what to expect as we continue than there are ZERO complaints here! Enjoy and thanks for watching our adventures.
