Sail Ningaloo - Liveaboard Diving Trip on a Luxury Catamaran
A most magnificent trip, from Perth to Exmouth, and by road to Coral Bay, had me diving with the most amazing array of fish, from the very tiny, to large beautiful sharks... swimming with manta ray and watching their mating rituals... spotting ever rarer dugong and well camouflaged octopus, as well as all manner of shellfish... living on the boat in a private double room with ensuite bathroom and every convenience needed... and eating the most sublime freshly cooked cuisine catered to my dietary requirements!! Trip of a lifetime! Thanks to Sail Ningaloo (sailningaloo.com.au), aboard the Shore Thing!
Tiger Sharks of Ningaloo Reef
Check out these tiger sharks feeding on the carcass of a Humpback Whale that washed in over the reef near Coral Bay, Western Australia. We saw this whilst out on Shore Thing with Sail Ningaloo ( The feasting lasted about 3 days and all that was left in the end was a pile of bones. Some of these sharks are probably four metres long and so full you can see there bellies bulging. These sharks are amazing creatures and in an environment like Ningaloo, where there is so much food for them, the eco system is in balance and they cause no problems for humans.

Sail Ningaloo 14th July 2013 Highlight Reel
A fantastic 5 day winter trip with a bit of everything! Manta Rays, humpback whales, reef sharks, turtles and many of the usual suspects greeted our guests from Perth, Scotland and France. A big congratulations goes out to James and Sophie for trying scuba diving for the very first time. Highlights included discovering a brand new snorkel site now called ' The Hangover' due to its abundance of overhangs and swim-thrus which provide a home for an abundance of fish life and turtles. There was some great sailing action which was only surpassed by the amazing show put on by breaching and frolicking humpback whales inside the reef. Many new born humpback whale calves were seen and we can no doubt expect a lot more new baby whales been seen in the coming month as more whales move through the area, stopping and resting within the protection of the Ningaloo Reef.

Sail Ningaloo - September 5 Day diving tour
On this 5 day tour exploring the NIngaloo Reef some of our guests became open water scuba divers for the first time. We dived and snorkeled on a 124 year old shipwreck, saw whales breaching and broke our record for the number of turtles on one snorkel...the record now stands at over 100 green turtles in 45mins! We were graced by a mother and calf humpback whale circling our tender and even saw a pod of over 100 false killer whales! Once again we experienced some of the most remote outreaches of the Ningaloo Reef, enjoyed good food, good company and and truly memorable time aboard 'Shore Thing'.
Ningaloo's manta ray magic
outdoortravelchannel.tv - Reef manta rays (Manta alfredi) and other marine life (eg, a leopard whiptail ray and hammerhead shark) spotted while diving and snorkelling Ningaloo Reef, Western Australia, from Shore Thing, Sail Ningaloo's luxury liveaboard catamaran.
The barrel rolling shots were filmed near North Reef, and most of the other manta footage was from a single morning in Bateman Bay.
Filmed with a GoPro Hero2, using a BlurFix, cyan filter (for the barrel rolls and then in deeper water), and tray.

Bud & Jane on the Shore Thing.m4v
Bud and Jane spent five glorious days upon the Shore Thingcatamaran on Western Australia's Ningaloo Reef during June 2011. Duing those days they enjoyed the company of others and the crew of Lani, Luke and John. Their greatest companions though were the turtles, dugongs, sting rays, manta rays, sharks and other marine life which they swam and snorkelled with.
Sail Ningaloo - 3 Day Ningaloo Getaway - June 2012
This 3 day tour came straight after our 5 day tour in June and combined it made for a 9 day Ultimate Ningaloo Experience for 2 of our guests. This 3 day tour took in the sights, both underwater and above, around Coral Bay and south to the Pelican sanctuary zone (despite there being no pelicans there!). Starting off with spectacular sunset and amazing evening meal followed up by our host, Vicky's freshly made berry cheese cake! Sailing south the winds were blowing and the sky was overcast but just in time the weather abated us to begin exploring the underwater wonders of the reef. Multiple turtles were seen at our various snorkeling sites including Pandora's garden where 2 hawksbill turtles were seen. Not a rare sighting but special sighting none the less. To cap it off we had 3 magnificent Manta Rays barrel rolling in Batemans Bay to everyone's delight and despite winter being upon us there was still plenty of warmth in the sun to work on those tans for our guests from the southern (cold) states!
4th July 2013 Sail Ningaloo Highlight Reel
ON this 3 day Ningaloo Getaway we ventured south towards the Pelican Sanctuary. Once again we were treated to some fantastic water clarity and had a great swim with a beautiful Manta Ray in Batemans Bay. On the diving front we saw some rusty old hands blow out the cobwebs and get back into diving at 'Black Douglas' rocks and we were thrilled to see some of the younger divers trying diving for the first time and also taking advancing thier dive skills with a bouyancy specialty. Conditions were ideal with low winds and great visibility night diving was on the cards for the brave few. Their were treated with some great marine life including a very inquisitive Eagle Ray and a huge green turtle. The Humpback Whale migration is in full swing and whales seem like they are just about everywhere!....Just ask our scuba divers who were treated with a rare glimpse of a whale on a dive. To round day 2 off we managed to catch a good sized Spanish Mackeral which fed all on board for 3 meals including some great sashimi prepared by Lannie. On day 3 we explored more of the Pelican Sanctuary which has some of the most pristine coral gardens in all of the Ningaloo Reef, if not the world. We had great snorkels at Grumpy's Aquarium and Purple Haze and rounded the trip out with some more whale watching which including some great breaching action all the way back to Coral Bay.

Sail Ningaloo Highlight Reel 17th March 2014
A great 5 day trip with some great weather well suited for sailing, relaxing, snorkeling, and working on the sun tan! Our guests joined us from Germany, Switzerland and England. We sailed north to Norwegian Bay and explored the Point Cloates region for the first time in 2014. It was great to snorkel some of our favourite sites including the Fin shipwreck, Cloates Corner, the Back-up Plan, Holey Moley and the Mooch Patch! We caught some fresh fish and calamari for our meals and enjoyed gourmet lunches and dinners prepared by our chef Dean....there were a few sneaky siestas as well! To cap off the trip we swam with three gorgeous manta rays and a swarm of pink whiptail stingrays in the shallows!
